One nice touch to Dante's original source material is with the 33 Hope Points. Dante's poem(s) has 33 chapters (cantos ). I got the PDF version of the player's book.
Have you gotten around to playing it yet? I'm very tempted to add this beautiful product to my collection, but in the past I've seen so many bad rules in apparently elaborately produced role-playing games (including those based on 5E) that I've become a little more hesitant about blind buying.
@@luziankrieger8370 No I haven't had a chance to play the game yet. I'm a big Dante and classics fan, so this piqued my interest. (I mean I picked a hotel in Florence due to how close it was to the house Dante was born.) I had also gotten Brancalonia also by Acheron so I definitely wanted to look at Inferno. Lex Arcana by them will most likely be my next game I get.
You could always check out the digital PDF versions of the books and games first before deciding if the books are also worth it.
That art looks amazing and those books look beautiful. And using 5e seems apropos since the players are in hell. It's like double hell.
True. lol
You will not be found in the liars circle, my friend. We switched to Pathfinder 2e, and it's like the heavens opened unto us.
Lol
Don't let Rudy find out
Your prologue about this being a fighting game not a journey like the poem made me reimagine this as a module for Ryuutama. “Oh no! Our friend is caught by the grasping hands of lost souls!”
This would be a great campaign after a TPK. Simply have the party go through all of the nine circles of hell before they can be raised from the dead.
I remember when this KS was going. I didn't back it because I had no idea if it would be worth it (Kickstarters can vary pretty wildly in quality, regardless of promises), but you've given me reason to consider spending my gaming budget on this. Thank you!
Edit: Also, pretty sure this presentation is exactly the vibe I've always wanted for Baator. I mean, that only makes sense, but even Planescape made Hell a little too mundane.
This seems like a better version of the Dark Souls 5e rpg.
Which is really a cheek in terms of image quality and rules. Still considering ritually turning a specimen into a Bone Fire.
My wife is currently preparing the campaign for our group of Travellers and to be honest, I'm really excited to start our journey through Hell.
Shame that they do not ship to outside of USA. Not to mention they do provide their own pdf's instead of drivethru
I backed the Inferno KS at a digital tier because it looked neat, but man was I kicking myself when the final products released. Between that backwards buyers remorse and your early look at Apoccalise i was able to fix that mistake by baking at the all-in tier that also included all of Infernos stuff.
My current madcap idea is to see if I cant splice Inferno and Apoccalise into one mega campaign.
Nice save!
Adventurers! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty! For tonight, we dine in hell!
OUTSTANDING review. Thank you!
I got this last week and I'm loving it!
I don't play 5e but I'm currently revising an Apocalyptic/Journey Through Hell Campaign for AD&D that I wrote back in the 1990s-early 2000s and I picked up the Mayfair Games & Judges Guild versions of Inferno not long ago. I'm grabbing this for ideas. Thanks for the review & the discount!
Great review
I'm a hypernerd about the Comedy, and I am SO hyped about this. I would LOVE to run this. I really hope they don't crap out and do the whole trilogy.
I REALLY enjoyed this one, thank you
The arts are uncanny. Should be useful and fun for further reading and enriching the lore of Aquelarre RPG.
Even though I'm not Catholic, I'm a HUGE fan of the Divine Comedy (hence my name online...) and learning more about this game I think I'll be buying this this weekend since a local store carries it. I have never heard of Apocalisse until now but I definitely need to pick up that series as well!
This review was top notch. 👏🎲
This book its just on my line, thanks you
Well, I think I have my next arc. I'm gonna run with my friends 😈😈😈
I backed this on KS and I have really enjoyed reading it, but I have yet to find a group willing to play it. It seems to me that the hardest thing about this campaign is finding players who are willing to play it as a straight and faithful adaptation. Most players are interested in different styles of fantasy, in my opinion.
Are the rules solid? I'm very tempted to add this beautiful product to my collection, but in the past I've seen so many bad rules in apparently elaborately produced role-playing games (including those based on 5E) that I've become a little more hesitant about blind buying.
I'll be down to play it if you run it online on a Sunday xD
Wow. I'm not a 5e player, but I might make an exception for this. On the other hand, what's the publishing date for the DCC version? Lol

Probably the only way you could get me to play 5e right now.
Pretty much all of this looks and sounds amazing, it feels like the very essence of the Divina Comedia was captured! And yet it is forced to languish in the neverending purgatory that is DnD 5e.
I know, a publisher basically needs to target that lowest common denominator audience to make it financially these days but... Dave's exasperated sigh at around 11 minutes sums it up perfectly for me.
Does anyone know when the books will be available in local game stores?
Hi there Wendell, our US distributor is Studio2 and I think Inferno is already sortable through any local game stores? (I hope)
Hey Dave!
I just wanted to trow a RPG your way: The Dead are coming, an Into the Odd hack for a zombie apocalypse. I found it to be interesting, check it out!
There are like no videos about it.
It looks pretty fantastic, if only they shipped outside of the United States... not even an option for poor Canada :(
FYI, it's now available in stores in Canada.
better get me working on some TS Eliot stuff
Looks ok. Dave, what are your thoughts on Starfinder? I can’t find any Paizo games on your channel.
Cool art. Complicated rules.
@@DaveThaumavore I dont love complicated lol, just bought the starter box and debating whether to deep dive or find another space adventure alternative?
@@TheFearlessFew you might as well give it your best shot. But don’t feel bad if you conclude that the game is just too crunchy and granular. It’s a really complex game meant for people who like that sort of thing.
Really cool idea; I just wish it wasn't beholden to 5e.
Wow! This looks incredible. Too bad about the system choice, this could've been so much better in a different system.
Also, what is that beautiful haunting music in the first part? It's so perfect for the game, I really want to use it.
Looks like something that would work a million times better as a PbtA or FitD game, which are more about the experience and less about aching to hit something with your weapon. Not hard to adapt if you're experienced enough with them, though.
I am tempted to grab this just for the bestiary
I read the poem, played the game, watched the mediocre anime, and now i have the 5e books
The cards from Wies Swarts.
I understand everyone was disappointed by regular D&DAvernus but according to the lore it made sense for Avernus to be a hell lite as its only the first layer.
This is just begging for a translation to a different system. Hell of a setting though.
Pity it didn’t use 1e-2e rules.
So they've made a flavourful and well researched interpretation of the Divine Comedy and then hamstrung its appeal by tying it solely to 5e. Genuinely what is the point of doing that? They could have either made a setting book that was system agnostic or even written their own rpg which actually fit the material instead of doing this jury rigged version of 5e.
Played it, the flavour and story is on point, but as far as a game/gameplay it's just a worst 5e, it's less balanced and less fun than 5e and it takes a lot of efforts nowadays to be worst than 5e, if you are there just for the setting you are there for a treat but don't hope for much on anything else
Such a shame that this uses the 5e rules
WHY 5e ?!?! Such a bad system for playing such a grandiose and complex diegesis :(
All that front loaded stuff about races and classes was necessary for them because they chose to use 5e, which was a money move. Other systems would’ve done this WAY more justice. But I guess they wanted more algorithm publicity. Sad.
If you live in the US and are interested in this book you better get it before conservatives burn it.
I’m theologically conservative and catholic and I support this rpg, I just got in the mail today and started developing my rpg campaign for it
Yeah what are you talking about? Conservatives love the idea of Hell or at least the idea of working to overcome it
Gotta love fools who defend naughty material aimed towards the young…
@@ejsmith7626Gestures wildly at 80s and 90s
I don't understand why you would want to inject politics into such a wonderful book and presentation.
5E? Pass.
I hate Dantes inferno, but wow this campaign seems cool
