- Quite a lot in this chapter; we fit most of the dash and associated parts to the Fairlane, we take a look at some rust cuts for both XA Falcons, we fit the handbrake and some of the front suspension and steering apparatus and we start bending up and fitting some brake lines. There's a bit more too, so I hope you enjoy!
Isn't it fun to put shiny things back together, you get the pay-off for all the work and planning. A taste of things to come. I remember when these came out and Ford made such a song and dance about the advanced plastic moulding that went into the dashboard. Seeing the flimsy truth is an eye opener for sure. When you found the Huntsman, I instantly thought of tourists from certain countries shrieking "everything is Australia is trying to kill you!". It made me laugh because the poor spider was terrified and was obviously glad to be as far away from a human as possible. After I sold the Austin, I bought a Toyota Townace van. Bit of a contrast. 😊👍
Getting there Pete, dont get too fussy, it is a 40 year old bus! Its going to be one of the best left!😅
Hi Peter,
Good work.
The wiper motor plugs into the main loom that comes through the firewall. It does not have another hole.
The cluster is held in by short screws. They screw into little square plastic receptacles like the ones you used for the brake lines but black.
Shame about the side dash mounts. My old rusty ZJ is gone but I kept the complete dashboard.
The dashboard side mounts are good. The diffuser is good. My cluster is good.
There are some other bits that I may want to keep but you are welcome to have the rest.
I’ll take some photos tomorrow and send them.
Good on you Peter.
Hello Peter the project car is coming on good love you channel and content thanks...😮😮
Love where you're at with this build. I used to restore and dress up the dashes in the XDE models. I rekn I did over 100 dashes. Took the needles off and used DupliColor DSF50 from memory which have the right colour, and illuminated great at night.
Coming along nicely mate 👌
Thanks 👍
Nice work Peter, always interesting. I must say, you've really converted me to plating old nuts, bolts and brackets. Looking very fresh.
its funny you saying its getting warmer the geese are starting there journey south that's a sure sign of the weather changing up here
Hello Peter, the 82 xe/zk models had the york type piston compressors, my 82 4.1 Xe Fairmont with factoy air has the same set up exactly, they changed to the rotary type in jan 83, and the fire wall was bulged out on the lhs from then on too and its a different heater core, i have a 1/83 FD Ltd and 10/83 Efi Zk as well , [also have a 4.9 82 zk but thats all different obviously, cheers great content paul colins
Brilliant info Paul, I'm a bit of a novice with this model, thanks so much!
My XE 4.1 Litre Ute had a Rotary type Compressor. I ordered it with factory air but once delivered to me from the dealer i always suspected that it was Dealer fitted "Selectaire" Air Cond. Being a Ute it worked well.
G'day, Pete. Excellent upload as usual. Can't wait for you to get on to the Holden red motor.
Enjoyed that, its really coming along quite nicely👍
Coming along nicely Peter. 👍
Looking pretty good.
Cant wait unti the motor install.
Thanks 👍
looking good Peter, I bought a professional kit(made in china) for doing 45deg brakes single and double flare and 37deg (AN fittings), it has two different dies and turret design cheaper than I could get lines for the Mustang made, I can do a double brake flare in under a minute
Sounds great where did you get it Grant?
@@PeterAndersons Vevor ? quite a while ago, so i will try and find the link to the one I have because lots are one or the other not both die sets
@@PeterAndersons I sent you the link on PM
Should be a plastic bush on those bonnet hinges
Yes I thought it was far too loose thanks for that, I’ll need to turn some delrin ones up in a lathe, cheers
Hi Peter I have very detailed pictures of the XA plenum and a pillar sections which I have replaced layer by layer. That is if you need them. Happy to email those over
That sounds very helpful, can you email them to suzieandpeteranderson@gmail.com thanks so much, cheers
Hey Pete great stuff, picking up tips every time, where do you get the rolls of pipe ??
It’s just 3/16 bundy tube for the brakes and 5/16 for the fuel line off ebay
old shocky rubbers make for good brake line grommets, if you cut a groove in the centre. fyi.
A falcon and something cracking or breaking that is plastic....I refuse to believe it 😂😂😂. On top of that any replacement for plastic bumper Aussie cars is near unobtanium. The Rare Spares crowd hasn't figured out there is money to be made in plastic bumper yet. 😜
Hopefully soon they will see the light...
I can tell you live in a posh neighborhood because of the class of huntsman you have, he was so well behaved.
Unlike the feral bogan huntsmans around these parts.
i think he was feeling a bit unwell... I was drilling the screws on the interior trim and flipping the piece around while I was working on it, with no idea he was there. By the way, text me your bank details Harvey...
Pete, have you any interest in using a microphone? Love your videos, but sometimes you're a bit hard to hear.
