I agree. The Leafs have been a team that allows the opposition to determine the pace, then they react to it. That doesn't work, especially come playoffs. It's time for them to be the aggressors and play their own style, forcing the opposition to react and have to match the Leafs' intensity.
They did it for a stretch when marner and rielly were out and that was by far their best hockey. I never felt more like they had a chance at a deep playoff run than I did during that set of games.
The line about not caring about points and feelings will last as long as it does not apply to Matthews. I will be really impressed if Berube sits Matthews for the last couple of regular season with a playoff position locked and Matthews at 69 goals.
Keep an eye on C/RW Cal Clutterbuck and LW Matt Martin and RD Gustav Lindstrom and F JVR linked to the leafs and from trade rumors that leafs have strong interest in LW Frank Vatrano and ducks from trade rumors is one of the teams interested in Nick Robertson and G prospect Kevin Petruzzelli if true or not we will see?
Let's be honest boys we are good to great in the regular season. What will matter will be are they playoff built. We need those greasy goals not every goal can be a top 10 goal of the night. All we have is hope. Has anyone ever wondered if the leaf players switched jerseys for another team would they play different. Just a thought 🤔
It all sounds good, and I’m sure Berube will be better at it, but ultimately this is the same Methodology where you’re trying to draw blood from a Stone. We need players with that inner fire already inside them, not a boot camp where it needs to be forced upon them.
I though for some time Keefe was way to easy on the players. even when he criticsized them he walked it back 24 hours later. I dont see this happening with Berube, i think he will be a lot firmer with the players, and thats good thing.
Amazing how so many have such faith and belief in this coach. His analytics aren't great. He's 15th, 16th at best. The longer he stays the worse the teams get. I doubt the leafs get 40 wins, maybe even not make the playoffs. Way too much faith in old battered D and an average at best coach. Won't change anything
It's because players that want to win seem to favour him over others. His style works for players that want to be killers in the playoffs. Signing berube was about attracting free agents who want to win. He scares away guys who want an easy job and a paycheck.

A coach doesn't play the game, nothing changed here and I'm still not expecting much from the group. 1st round should be a given for this team.... so I need 3rd round visit as a success

Auston was ok but you could tell he was not his normal self Mitch I think still had the ankle injury yet again he’s never rlly won us a game in the playoffs nylander was just amazing coming back
What a load. The Leafs dumbed down their 'finesse' game when they played Boston this spring, actually out-hitting & out-shooting the Bruins. Boston had 135 shot-blocks to 107 for the Leafs. Swayman outplayed Samsonov definitively & that was the difference. Period. As Ullmark said in an interview after his trade to Ottawa, " I don't understand why Keefe didn't start Woll as he is the better goalie in my opinion". He's right. Samsonov, outside of game 2 was simply not good enough & particularly in games 3 & 4 allowing stoppable goals. Keefe finally starts Woll in game 5 with zero room for error & under huge pressure, he delivered 2 outstanding games, back to back (gaa of .88 & save % .964). The Leafs played a heavy game imo. The other Keefe blunder was playing Reaves in 5 games. He can't play anymore & was responsible for 2 critical Boston goals. Inadequate goaltending from Samsonov, the absence of Nylander for 3 games & Matthews for basically 3 games himself, hurt the Leafs. Marner, Jarnkrok & Dewar were not at full health either.
