- On August 29, 1970, the Chicano Moratorium Against the Viet Nam War mobilized the largest Chicano protest and the largest anti-war protest led by a community of color at the time. Combining a critique of US imperialism abroad and racism at home, the Chicano Moratorium was the result of years of organizing and consciousness raising by Chicano liberation activists around the country. Former Brown Beret Bill Gallegos and CSU Northridge professor Theresa Montaño join The Marc Steiner Show for a look back on the Chicano Moratorium and the struggle from which it arose.

My family and I were some of the 1st Mexicans in Oxford, Alabama in the year 1995. We moved from Addison, Illinois. I really missed me gente a lot growing up. We weren't taught a lot of this but I saw this movement happen on a movie. I would have loved to be taught more about our people and the things we fought for, and the contributions we've made. Even to this day I try to carve out a space for my people everywhere I go.
I was never taught anything about this. Every day I find out more about how pathetic my education about the world was; and it makes me so angry. They shouldn’t be allowed to hide history from us. It’s reprehensible and we need to write our own history books for our kids that include everyone not just the white people.

In LA across from the Olivera Plazita there is a museum that teaches this information, it helps to teach children and it's free.
Wow! my family was deep into the Chicano Movement! Thank you for this. The country does know about this. There are were 2 civil rights movements in the USA. One is glorified and the other is ignored.

Why did you fire Chris Hedges?
Telling your story/full history is an act of (i)nclusivity , that would be the 'i' in DEI. These people try to distance themselves from other struggles then complain they are not included in other struggle. This is insanity. He talks about how no one remembers the Chinese workers lynched(as oppose to the black ones everyone go on and on and on about), to that I'll say please forward that info ever chance you get and please encourage the Asians to do the same, but alas, these same voices stay quiet until the victim Olympics is in season to play whatabouts to undercut real social progress.
