What grabbed me immediately was the authentic Star Trek flavor of the story starting out. The explorers, their interchanges, pure Star Trek. I'm so happy to find this

Who else especially absolutely enjoyed the first 5 min. The dialogue, the analysis, the comments and back and forth banter. So representative of a Scientific Team that would be exploring an alien world with intelligent observations and curious expressions of details and discovery. So well done. I was hooked right away.

definitely. Some good writing and art here, a good production. But like most, really should just leave the original characters alone. They're at their best when they're exploring new characters and scenarios.
I just couldn't get through the McCoy-Kirk scenes. Thats not McCoy, not Kirk. the dialogue, pacing, sound, movement. distractingly not them.
That first crew was on the survey ship was *great*. lets explore their adventures.

Meh. It's okay - A little too sloppy. Work on Kirk's hair would be nice - Old, short style, then 3rd season, with gut (9:40), then yellow shirts for all, No red shirts. Bad voices, Etc. No - I'll give them a B- for effort and a C for results. They need to do better!

You are either on crack or getting paid to make idiotic comments. This is as lame as it gets. Like listening to the computer voices doing videos now. BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get some voice actors who can actually read and maybe not tape the first read through. This is supposed to sound like actual conversations not people struggling to read a terrible script. No one talks like this.

But alas, much as been changed over the years and Im afraid Star Trek isn’t Star Trek anymore. I think Gene Roddenberry would be turning in his grave if he saw the latest Paramount offerings. Your comments are logical and entirely consistent with my own observations. The attempt at derision by the naysayer should be ignored. As the vulcan proverb goes, the tonnacanda bird that finds no seeds will soon look elsewhere.
By my estimation, the writing in the screenplay of this video rivals and indeed in some respects surpasses the writing of many episodes of the state trek franchise episodes. Giving credit where credit is due seems entirely appropriate in this instance.

I'm at 0:22, and Spock & Uhura seem to have the most authentic voices. It's Spock's pacing that really sells his voice.
I think that the characters at the beginning seem to be the most real, in the sense that we are unfamiliar with them, so we aren't distracted by their voices.

WOW. It's been so many years since I had a new dose of the original Star Trek spirit. You've really caught the essence of it and brought it alive again-the idealism, the moral clarity, Star Fleet inspiring people to rise above natural pettiness and conflicts, the dangers, the thrill of exploring new worlds, the love of science and nature, the insight into humanity, even the touch of swagger. I'm literally tingling!

Wow, this is good! I haven't seen anything so much like original Trek since Star Trek Continues. It's so good that it seems a shame to not benefit from having the original actors do the voices (those that are still alive), or at least some professional voice actors to replicate the original voices, and also from some professional editing to tighten it up a bit. It just seems to linger a little too long in each scene, with a bit too much time in between lines, as well as some extraneous lines that don't really add much to the story. But that's just nitpicking. Most fan productions aren't anywhere near this good or faithful to the show. This is even better than Filmation's TAS in several ways.

I thought I'd never see a new Star Trek episode again. The best I have seen since the original series. The makers should be proud. If not already possible it won't be long before the original voices can be used with this video by way of computer software. Not long after that this entire episode can be completely redone using computer files. Then this episode would be indistinguishable from an original.

He's doing pretty well. Some mispronunciation of dialogue and he misses the "NYeww" in "new civilizations" but I think he's not doing an out-and-out imitation of Shatner. Spock, Scotty, Uhura and Chapel sound really great; Sulu sounds good, and I really wish they had switched the voice actors for Dr Piper and Dr McCoy. McCoy sounds about 75 years old. The guy playing Piper sounds a bit younger and his voice is more naturally relaxed, more like De Kelly's.

Nice and true words, my friend. But in discovery are so much mistakes in the canon for most star trek fans it is just not Star Trek. They dont go where boldly no one has gone before, the dont discover or seek out new lives and civilizations. In the first two seasons u see war, in the third season u see a pretty dark future.
There are so much interviews with Gene Roddenberry and Rick Berman and all what they said, Alex did the total opposite on the discovery show. Thats a fact not an opinion.
If youre really open minded think about the arguments of the other side and dont put yourself over other persons because of your "open mind".

      Don't worry, I have a copy of it :D
This is well worth preserving and I think I'll point out some of the grandiosity of it. First, it's the base, it's very 60's future design, and sitting on an asteroid, something you have never seen before but was a common concept back in the 1950's and 60's in science fiction. The second is the power of a starship, being able to move entire planets. In the original series, the Enterprise could destroy a planet with a single photon torpedo and the sanity of the captain was sometimes mentioned as being a severe requirement of command because of the unfathomable destructive power of a starship.
The newer series, everything was a lot weaker, men weren't such gods either, they were just men (and women, to be politically correct). Basically in the original series, humanity's best was sent out, they were the smartest, sanest, most ethical people of the entire human species. You certainly don't see that in the modern series, and I'd include anything beyond the original series in that. The first series was certainly extremely idealistic.

Excellent work! You've captured the feel of the original animated series while surpassing many of its limitations. Obviously, this is a labor of love. While some people may diss the voice acting, I've heard far worse in the original audio-only stories released on vinyl back in the '70s. For me, I don't require voice clones. Your voice actors have captured the spirit of their characters superbly and that's what counts for this old fan. Another plus is the use of the original sound effects and re-purposing of many of the musical themes from the original live series.
The mix of cell animation and CGI is quite good as well. A nice mix, with a good balance between the two styles. That isn't easy, but you made it work!
Scripting is another plus, though more adult than classic Trek was allowed, you made that work as well. Overall, I'd give this very high marks indeed.

We took care not to modernize the TOS universe with ear-jarring jargon and tech talk. However, we did want to separate our story and production from the fine 1973-74 Filmation show by offering more mature dialog. Star Trek- The Paradise Makers is definitely not a Saturday mornng offering.

I just ran across this today. At first I thought maybe it was an old TAS episode I missed, even though I have them all on dvd! I'm only 12:32 & I can tell you that it is MOST DEFINITELY Star Trek!!!
In case anyone missed it this episode takes place during the first year of the 5 year misson. About 9 months in. I would place it after the pilot episode but before any of TOS episodes. I haven't watched the whole episode or part 2 yet, so I might be wrong.
I'm a fan of all the Star Trek series & movies. I haven't really seen Star Trek: Discovery, so I can't comment on that. Enterprise was my favorite show. Just like TOS, they cancelled it before it was time!! I disliked the last episode. I have all the TV shows on DVD but, not all the film's. I have watched all the Enterprise, TOS & TAS episodes but, not all of TNG, DS9 & Vgr episodes. Back to the point keep up the GREAT WORK!! May your animated enterprise "Live long & prosper." 🖖

    This is absolutely charming. Wonderful!
I had wondered how a more photorealistic approach would work on animated Trek. This is certainly an argument for such an approach.
This looks like Trek, sounds like Trek, scans like Trek and honors it's tricks and tropes.
I say this is closer to TOS than what TAS was able to accomplish, given the shackles placed on them in 1973.
Thanks to all of you for your conscientious re-creation of what we all hold so dear.
