    I just noticed, when you were reinstalling the fuel tank retainer ring (the part that you hammered with a screwdriver off and back on after installing the pump) you said that the little indent on the ring should line up with the edge of the piece on the tank. when I looked back through your video to when you were first taking it off it was securely lodged underneath the piece that was on the tank. I know that it probably wont make any real difference as it should be very effectively sealed with the force you used to secure it, however I do believe that the indent on the tank retainer ring should be forced underneath the tab on the tank where it has a fitting indent to prevent it from moving further.
    All that aside you've made some extremely useful videos and I'm currently needing to replace my fuel pump due to having a dead unit, your videos have been ridiculously useful to me in learning my car while I've been away from it for a couple of months. I just want to let you know how much I appreciate the quality and effort that you put into making these videos and show you some appreciation.

    My 2M4 sat in the garage for 20 years with 28K on it...and a very full tank of punk gas in it. Started perfectly as long as I dribbled a little gas down the throttle body, but would not start or run on the crap in the tank. No fuel pump prime sound. Guessing the pump dissolved in the nasty gas. After watching the video I have everything loose and unhooked with the tank held in by the two loosened tank straps and a hydraulic trolley jack. Tomorrow I'll lower it carefully and install a new pump and/or complete sending unit depending on what I find in there. Thanks for the clear instructions!

    Hey Mark, nice video! I think I'm going to do this project soon, my GT suddenly started making a loud noise that I could hear more pronounced up near the cab (sounded like it was the fuel pump) and then the engine cut out and doesn't want to stay started - you're giving me the confidence to take on dropping the fuel tank :)

      Hey Garrett! It's always a pleasure to hear from fellow Fiero UA-camrs. I'm glad that you found my video helpful. The biggest hurtle you'll probably have is getting the hoses off the tank. I have tips if you run into any issues.
      Some suggestions to diagnose the issue, a fuel pump that starts and stops IS a sign that it's on it's way out. If it only runs when you spray starter fluid then that's a good indicator to confirm your suspicions.
      Other possibilities would be a dying ignition coil/ignition module or a vaccuum leak. Lemme know if you have any questions or need any parts. Good luck and keep that Fiero alive!

      @@LostNotForgotton Thanks for the help Mark, you're a good guy! So... don't laugh at me but my problem ended up being an empty fuel tank (the pump was noisy because it wasn't able to pull any fuel) - BUT, my fuel gauge was showing a little under half full so I think my fuel sending unit/float may be all gunked up? It's running fine now, but I may end up dropping the tank at some point just to see what it's looking like in there and maybe just to preemptively change out the pump since it does sound like it's starting to strain... just happy I was able to get it in my garage haha

    change the flat screw driver for a wooden hard wood dowel stick custom tool, for the removal of the metal ring , so that there's no accidental spark during removal or installation of fuel pump, especially when vaporous are present in this specific area of work !!!

    OK so I changed out my fuel pump but I wanna make sure that I don’t have the lines or I should say the hoses wrong. How do you tell which hoses go where again? Reason I’m asking is because I’m getting a lot of fuel getting pumped into the vapor canister so I wanna make sure I don’t have it reversed or something

    Where is the next fiero build update!?!? I have a fiero, a 3800sc engine, and a bunch of new parts. Following your build, has inspired me to do the swap. Hands down best information about the 3800 swap process. I thought there would be a video about the 3800 finding its way into its new home. Fuel line routs, electric, plumbing, and stuff?

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 років тому +3

      Derrick Webster Thank you. I'm glad these videos have been so inspiring. It's definitely a swap worth doing. I try to explain things as simple as possible and provide links to everything in the description.
      The next video to be posted is actually on hooking up the vacuum lines, fuel lines and hoses. It's mostly edited but I think you've inspired my to try and finish it up this week. The next video after that will be trial starting the engine. Right now I'm still working on final hook ups. That video may be delayed until I work out the details in getting everything right. I'll try and get the next video posted this Fri or Sat.

    I have a 86’ Fiero gt and the problem the car has when I start it and press on the gas it cuts off and I start it again and it stays on for a couple minutes and then turns off again. I’d really appreciate it if you could give me some advice. Do you think the problem could be the filter or the gas pump ?

    Did you have to bend the arm on your floater at all to make it from not hitting the inner baffel in the tank. Replaced my sending unit with a TFS one and now gauge is stuck on empty and i read somewhere you may have to bend arm on floater. If you bent it how far and what part of the arm did you bend?

      mahopacgreglp Thanks for checking out my videos. I do have two more videos almost ready to post to show where I am at now. The next video I will post will be on hooking up the hoses, vacuum lines, A.C. line and fuel lines. That video should be posted next week. After that will be a pre-install and test start. Right now I'm working on filming the final install of the engine but that video may be delayed as I have run out of budget foe the moment. The good news is the engine starts so it validates that everything is hooked up properly. Once I can scrape enough money together to finish the videos I'll post them as soon as I can but keep an eye out for the next two which should be posted shortly. Good luck on your build.

    Hi LostNotForgotton Is there a way to fix the stock fuel level sender ? if not, can it be replace with a universal one? like the ones they sell in Autozone.

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  6 років тому +1

      Depending on what's wrong with your sending unit and how savvy you are at working with electronics it might be possible to fix it but typically it's not worth it. The Fiero Store sells new ones that work really good for about $150. It's worth the cost over having to mess with hoping its fix and getting it back together only to find it isn't fixed.

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 років тому +1

      Yes, the fuel pump for the 2.8 and the 3800 look the same and are installed the same. The 3800 has a little more pressure. This video will be fine for showing how the stock 2.8 fuel pump will be repaired.

    Whats better the Formula or the GT for the 88 im looking at buying a white Formula is 2000 a good price for a Formula

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 років тому

      Backyard Garage It's more of what is appealing body style and features. The Formula is a little lighter because it doesn't have the extra skin that the GT has so that works to its advantage. The GT however typically has more features than the Formula. Formulas are more rare as they were only made for 1 year. 88's in general have upgraded brakes, suspension and steering so you'll have an advantage there. In my opinion $2,000 for a good running Formula is a good price, especially if it's a manual trans. They are a little harder to come by and more people tend to want them.

    • @backyardgarage6115
      @backyardgarage6115 7 років тому

      LostNotForgotton the cars in good condition for the most part the only bad thing really wrong with besides having 186000 on the v6 is that its an automatic and someone hit and cracked the passenger side fender and kept geting it all the way down the passenger side leave an inch wide scratch all the way down

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 років тому

      My blue 87 GT had 184,000 when I took the original engine out. It still ran but it was tired. I'm sure it would have gone over 200,000 if I left it in. I moved up to a 3.4 and now a 3800. If you end up swapping out the engine to a 3800 I think having the auto trans is better. Converting the 3800 to a manual is more expensive so it's nice having the auto parts already in the car. I'd say based on miles and condition that it's still a fair deal. I'd suggest trying to talk it down a little more just to see if you can sweeten the deal for yourself. Replacing the body parts should be cheap and fairly easy compared to a lot of cars. Some people can skin a Fiero in a few hrs. If you ask around Fiero groups you can find plenty of people willing to part with panels. Painting them white might cost more than the parts.

    I would luv to see how to fix a oil leak, mine leaks like a water fossett.

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 років тому

      I'll add that to my list of ideas. I had the same problem 2 yrs ago. I'd loose 4 quarts of oil in 100 miles. For me it tuned out to be the oil pan gasket bolts were loose. most of the bolts were pretty easy to get to but I had to remove the starter for two and there were some I couldn't get to because of the transmission. I eventually just replaced the gasket which was a huge pain but it doesn't leak a drop anymore. Another big culprit are the valve cover gaskets. Sometimes tightening those bolts a little help but if they have to be replaced you'll have to pull the upper intake off. You can buy a die kit that comes with the glasses and a black light to help trace the leak. Its better to know exactly where it's coming from than to guess and possibly over tighten you gaskets.

    • @Bobster986
      @Bobster986 7 років тому

      Wow! It must be rear valve cover. I just pulled the car out of the garage and let it sit running for 15 mins when the engine bay started smoking. I quickly shut the car and opened the hood to let it air it out. I'm not really looking forward to this job but will do anything for my precious 86 GT, you know how it is. Thanks! :-)

      A basic tool set is all you really need to pull the tank out. A specific list of tools would probably included a 10mm socket, 7mm socket, maybe a 13mm socket, flat head screwdriver and a car jack to use for the gas tank if it has a lot of gas in it.
