It is more of domestic terrorism than rhetoric.
It is no secret that you have to be a citizen to vote. The debate raised by the GOP has zero basis in fact. The Constitution already says that one has to be a citizen to vote. Any legislation to say that one must be a citizen to vote is redundant, and serves only as a distraction from the heftier issues we have to deal with.
In 2008, a friend of mine who was born in Japan and had lived in the US for 30 years applied for US citizenship. I asked him why he waited so long for that decision. He said that he did it at that time because he wanted to be able to vote in the 2008 election. I have photos of him swearing in as a US citizen, and I am very proud of him for making the choice.

I'm with you, Ari. I lived in Canada for 3 years, decades ago. I regret not taking citizenship when I could have. I've worked on political campaigns & I've been an aide to a Governor & a late State Senate Majority Leader. Who could have imagined anything like this? I'm retired & have been through some serious health issues in the last 18 months, currently recovering from brain surgery & my spirit wants to jump back into the fray but I'm not on top of my game. It's just killing me to have to sit it out.
