i love doug because he can appreciate normal cars. most presenters are always hung up on expensive and rare cars, but doug has never been afraid to review a normal everyday car, let alone buy one. he's the most relatable car show presenter i've ever watched
This car is pretty expensive...
Yeah i also appreciate that he just doesnt get another g-class iyf car but sth reliable, subtle and frankly quite cool and for me more of a standout than a g wagon. Always loved those landcruiser its a pretty neat and good car.

Erm not really. Plenty of names pop to mind. Most journalists are really long past the excitement of driving an Italian sports car
@@yungboicontigo9278 iyf = in your face
Finally, a major car UA-camr buys a car that makes proper sense. And is proud of it. Appreciate it.
As an owner, everything about the LC makes perfect sense except the hideous fuel economy.
It's nothing but subjective, it simply makes sense to buy what you want, especially with little research so you know what you getting into
Rest of the world has diesel versions
If Dough was rational he would have kept the e63 wagon.
Actually, buying a big car that is stored in a garage 90% of the year without use is the opposite of sensible.
Congratulations on baby Doug and family! There’s a saying here in Australia: if you want to go to the outback, take a land rover, if you want to come back from the outback, take a land cruiser.
I wonder if he sandbagged the ratings for the Land Cruiser so people buy the Land Rovers, Mercs, or others so the pricing would come down. 😂
Very original.
@@powEnvy embarrassing lol
"rover" "cruiser" LOOLLLL
Wow never heard that one before
Had my 2001 sequoia since 2009 and had never failed me no matter how cold it gets here in Minnesota. It still has the original engine, transmission, suspension, AC, radiator, rear deferential, even the original starter is still working on it. Toyota know how to make great and reliable vehicles. Hopefully one day I can upgrade to a Landcruiser.
I like how he constantly goes on and on about eco-efficiency while flying first class between the coasts 20 times a year. That sums up the hypocrisy (and the science-denial) of our ruling class in a very Orwellian way.
Oh, and btw, I'm not a subscriber to CAGW. I just don't like virtue signalers who have never owned a mirror.
For how inefficient, dull and overall very bulky some of those Toyota SUVs were, they were super fucking utilitarian, simple to use and fix and very very bulletproof. Death, taxes and a Toyota V8 drinking gas and lasting forever.
the fact that doug does so much research into buying such specific vehicles is what makes his collection cooler than a bunch of lambos
I feel you on that
Idk I’d rather have a bunch of lambos
This car is not cool in any way, the design looks about 15 years older than the year it was released.
@@Studeb good thing nobody buys these for design
Yep, a bunch of money and some Lambos. Lack of imagination. If I could afford a new Lamorghini, I would get a C8, a nice motorcycle, a summer commuter car and a winter suv for the same money.
"How many boxy SUV's do you need, Doug?"
Doug: "Yes."

He needs as many offroad SUVs as how many undershirts he wears Imao

And here we are
Oh no man. These rigs are awesome.
Perhaps you should start to reevaluate your priorities.
Last year I took a 6,500 mile trip across the southwest in a stock 2020 Series 200, and it was nothing short of glorious. It tackled highways, backroads, snowy mountain passes, icy freeways, those back country trails in Joshua Tree with the “hey you could get stuck and die here pretty easily” signs; LA traffic, NM sand dunes and everything else in between. Not only that, but it was insanely comfortable, quiet, it kept our drinks cold in the center console, and held 4 people and all our stuff with no problem.
That’s a proper machine. I should have bought a Heritage Edition when they were $25k less.
Yeah I don’t know how you can go from a Land Cruiser back to the defender after this.
Who is here after he sold it

Me
Me - he’s too much a nerd for new little tech things that I knew he would never keep it
Just in case Doug reads comments:
- Warm congratulations for the baby, cool!
- Car choice makes perfect sense, great buy!
- Consider to leave it at a workshop that can spray rust protection under chassis etc, last 3-5 years, works great (Sweden etc) and keeps it fresh
- Put some additive in the petrol to keep it Ok if you leave it a few month
- Invest in a battery charger to keep it working (of course you did)
Problem with white cars that dirt are more visible compared to darker colored cars, but since it's an offroader, nobody cares.
great suggestions!
@@automation7295 it's the opposite with cars. Dirt would be way more visible on a black car.

Depending how much dirt. On black cars, dirt can be visible when the car is exposed on sunlight or view the car up close.
The downside with black cars is get hot when exposed on sunlight for too long.
Doug just bought himself the most capable 4x4 SUV there is. Coming from an African, the Land Cruiser can only be truly understood when you use it for its purpose. The Adventures. Congratulations Doug! I approve of this Purchase.
You go to Africa to safari in a Land Rover and you'll end up in a Land Cruiser. There's a reason this cars are the norm in Australia, Africa and Middle East.

In Ghana, this car is simply referred to as “V8”, and used by the rich and politicians. Congratulations on your purchase, Doug. Seeing this makes me regret not buying a 2013 Highlander of similar color last year. The 2013 LC looks like a big version of the Highlander.

Same in Haiti
11:23 For what it's worth, I completely disagree - that interior looks great! The color combo is classic and it appears to be in excellent shape. I'm also not a big fan of black leather, as it is brutal on your body in the summer.
I live in dubai any car with a black interior/exterior is definitely a no it burns ur body
My Jeep has black leather. It’s fine in the summer. Cars nowadays have tint from the factory. The only thing I don’t like about leather is it stores the cold in the winter time
Your so right. My dad has an old 05 E-class and its all black on the outside and on the inside. And sitting in that car in the Texas heat is so terrible.
@@AtomSquirrel Well you can get a car that has heated leather seats and they often work very well if the car is new enough. Sadly my driver's seat in my 2008 Acura no longer gets hot all that quickly. It got warm fast when I bought it...less than a year ago. Now it takes a bit of time to warm up. The passenger seat gets hot almost immediately though. Tempted to see if I could swap the two seats...but might just be easier to find one at a junk yard and leave the passenger seat.
Only thing the passenger seat needs is a seat cover.

I’ve owned a 2000TLC which I paid $55k to drive it off the stealership floor - sold it in 2012 w/ 120k miles, for $28k, then had a 2012 Range Rover SC LWB Autobiography trim level, that I paid $110k for, traded that for a 2015 MB GL63 AMG, which I paid about $115k, which I traded for a 2020 Escalade ESV w/aftermarket supercharger and related drivetrain upgrades…. Now I’m looking for a white 2021 LC non-heritage trim level, w/ the red/brown/burgundy interior, or the Lexus LX570 version of same, sans running boards… the Japanese products are of superior build quality and their reliability is renowned, thus the high demand for late model examples
Buy an 80 series man! Absolute monsters
I never thought much of these until I took a 'desert adventure' tour while visiting Dubai. They took us dune busting in a 200 Series and it blew my mind. Much respect now! Should definitely handle a New England beach without any issues.
YES! I went on a vacation to Dubai and stayed at the Atlantis resort and we went on a whole trip and I almost threw up from the insane driving and after that we relaxed and enjoyed a meal. Excellent experience.
Same here lol. When I pulled up I was kinda shocked then when we took off I was like holy shit
He bought it for the same reason. This video could’ve been a minute long but he was trying to justify his purchase to us for over 23 minutes. He bought it because he likes the styling that’s it. He was also in Dubai and saw Arabs use white Land Cruisers and other Toyotas and he wanted to buy into that lifestyle. He thinks it looks cool. He says he wanted reliability but there are many US made SUVs that are just as reliable if not more.
Dude they’ll drive up anything. I’ve driven mine up a giant sledding hill that was covered in sheets of ice because my friend bet that it couldn’t
This video is honestly kinda wholesome in a way lol. It’s always fun to see Doug so excited
You're right about the reliability , my old man has pushed his toyota 10 years as a daily driver with some offroading here and there. And she's still pushing strong! Congrats on your new car Doug!
Tbh 10 year in one hands is not something special. Wait another 10 years and that will be a different story
I heard that the reason the land cruisers are so reliable is basicly because the parts are engineered to last 25 years, while in all other cars they're made to last 15.

The new lc300 is uglier than a car crash.
The bots are out of control
This is the reason why Doug is so popular, he brings a everyday man vibe to an otherwise boring car video segment. Tired of seeing, "I bought the cheapest supercar" videos. The 5.7 in the Land Cruiser is actually a little different than the one in the Tundra. It has stronger components. Everything is stronger on the Land Cruiser. The only bad part is the single digit mpg.

Doug, Since this LandCruiser is going to be sitting in a garage somewhere on the east coast, make sure to put a battery tender on the battery. The battery drain on your `13 probably isn`t as bad as it is on my 2018 with more computers, but it will always have your state of charge up to speed when you get there. Our L/C is an extra vehicle, so I use mine often. I will also agree with a few of the other comments about the color of your interior. I really love it, in fact, I was disappointed when I found out that color wasn`t available for 2018, after we had it in a 2014 Audi Q7 diesel (story for another time). Keep up the GREAT work with the videos, maybe in the future, you could introduce us to your new son. I`m sure that would be a crowd pleaser. The other Doug
Hey Doug! One thing to note about this generation LC (and the respective LX 570) is that although it SUCKS gas, it doesn't actually suck it that much faster than the other v8 three row counterparts... But rather it only psychologically feels that way because unlike other cars who's gas light turns on when you have 40-50miles left, the LC light comes up when the car still has 20% of it's fuel left in the tank. That's on purpose. As you've noted over the years, this is the car that dictators and warlords need to be but reliable, not only by not breaking down in the middle of nowhere, but also by not running out of fuel. This car has a 24.6 gallon gas tank, but you’ll soon notice that if you fill right when the gas light turns on, you’re only pumping about 18.5~ gallons to top it up (I learned this on a road trip to Florida). Just something to note! Congratulations on your baby as well, I had my second child on Friday too!
but it still gives 12 mpg
@@fannoise2429 that's city alone, the combined mileage of my wife’s 2017 LX 570 (the Lexus version LandCruiser) reads 13.9 average right now, whereas my 2021 Yukon Denali says 14.8 mpg. Not that big of a difference. (to be fair though the denali has 6.2 litre v8 which is bigger than the LC/LX’s 5.7 so I imagine a regular Yukon or Chevy Tahoe might be 2 mpg better than the Land Cruiser, again, not really that different).

recently had my first experience in a land cruiser and honestly it was one of the most comfortable rides i have got on. Physically comfortable and also mentally knowing this car wont break or become faulty on me easily.
Is this prado? Also, is it easy to drive a car with this length and size?
@@ajl2232 This isnt a prado. But it feels like a standard toyota, in large countries a large car is perfectly fine.
@@betalpha5846 Whats the difference between a landcruiser, prado and a v8? Plus what brand of toyota does the United nations use? I really love those cars.
@AJ L This particular one is a 200 series Land Cruiser, the Prado is more luxury oriented and slightly smaller. It's not sold in North America and some other markets, and in Europe it's sold as the Land Cruiser V8
@@ajl2232prado is a tuned down land cruiser. Im from Africa and I live in the middle east. U know horrible roads alot of actual off roading that u actually need to do so those are the cars that make the standard. All around the world its the standard military vehicle (yes) driven by formal armies ans militias. Incredibly rock solid and usually comes as a single cap diesel pickup with some guns and canons attached to its beds. In the middle east its driven by civilians as a combined farm, desert and daily. Plus the Hilux wich is standard in the middle east and considered luxury in africa. Usually douple cap that can carry pple and stuff indefinitely. In style and pride.
Congratulations on the little guy Doug,im looking foward to thqt day when he will be doing the Reviews😄 The Land Cruiser of this age is the perfect choise tho. Safe,Reliable,Practical,Cheap, offroad capable and also has decent Modern Modcons you want in car today.
Thanks for this video Doug. I love my 2011 LX. I bought it exactly 2 years ago with 175K miles for $22K from a Mazda dealership. The J200 was top of my dream car list since 2008. The one I have was a no brainer for me because the previous owner only used it as a grocery getter and had it meticulously maintained by lexus every 5K miles and had all the recommended maintenance done so it is in mint condition. It now has 210K miles and drives like brand new. Your video really highlights how lucky I was to find it when I did.
@bill ted it’s basically a Toyota so mileage means it’s barely getting broken in. I’ve seen a 2019 LX with 180k with no mechanical issues
@bill ted I didn’t know you worked as a service technician at Lexus lololol Toyota really does make cars that you can’t kill
i actually admire Doug for this, i see too much of the other guys buying expensive cars and it seems so out of touch it becomes a bit of a drab. i don't care so much about supercars and i like looking at these kinds of cars and car reviews, 'unexciting' and yet so entertaining and informative!
I'm in the same camp. All the other UA-camrs all get "me too" cars. Doug's choices are different. Love his tastes in cars.
Yep, bored of Stradman and the others constantly buying showy, expensive supercars every five minutes.
That's because most other youtubers only make content for children these days. The only people to get excited seeing someone buy 50 supercars a year are 10 year olds. Especially Steadman who once had a very decent and respectable channel.
This car is still rather expensive for the average man, but yeah I got your point. He still has a Ford GT, G-Class, RS2 and two others that aren’t cheap either.
@@pinut187 okay but he's not doing this video on those particular cars though. I'm only talking about this video and comparatively speaking, this car is still tens of thousands less than the cars you've mentioned
I bet Scotty Kilmer liked this video.
Love my toyotas!
Couple years ago I bought a mint, low mile 2008 Highlander Sport 4x4 in pearl green. Man do I love it for a daily!
I got a Lexus GX470 and it’s been such an amazing SUV. I’ve haled for road-trips, it’s done some towing, taken to the beach, and pretty much done everything I could do with a truck without having the bed. It’s a very comfortable ride as well, I highly recommend the GX470 or the GX460.
My buddy got a used one. I was floored how smooth the engine was. Like it ran on melted butter.
I've driven a few of these 200 series Land Cruisers, and they just give you such a sense of invincibility. The way they're put together and the way they drive feel so permanent. These and maybe like early gmt800 suburbans are the kings of "this thing would probably climb a tree if i asked it to" driving feel and on/offroad confidence.
*Congrats Doug. You cannot kill that thing!*
I've owned Toyotas, Fords, Chevys, Mercedes, Nissans, Audis, & Mercurys. And I'm currently driving a Tundra & a Lexus SUV... and I'll NEVER betray Toyota again! They aren't perfect for sure... but for RELIABILITY, it's Toyota forever.
*Just change ALL of the fluids religiously/perform the usual maintenance & never look back. Congrats again on becoming a Father!*
*EDIT: BTW, Toyota has pretty much abandoned timing BELTS ever since the late 00s on all of their vehicles. And of course, your 2013 has a 'maintenance free' timing CHAIN. Again, a great choice!*
We love these here in Australia. Diesel though. The premium on the last of the V8 diesels is absurd.
I had a go in a 300 series over Christmas and have to say you guys are missing out there.
I've had a J76 since new in 2018. Over 70k miles so far. Best decision of my life. Welcome to the LC family, Doug. Glad to finally have you on board!
my man owns a ford gt but yet he is still excited about a 2010s toyota suv, how can you not love this man
How could you ever be excited about a tribute car.
It's a land cruiser. The only normal thing about it is the badge.
Its a Land Cruiser... a vehicle in a class of its own. Might as well not have a Toyota badge.
doug is a super humble dude, this stealth wealth vehicle fits him well.
Congrats on the baby boy. That Land Cruiser is awesome. We have a white 2014 Chevy Traverse and we love it. We’ve owned it for about 5-6 years with no major issues. It’s the LS model. No fancy bells or whistles, grey cloth interior. Decent fuel economy (3.6L V6.) Extremely spacious, and it is used for going places, moving people and hauling things. Only has 109k miles on it. It isn’t going to offer Toyota level reliability or longevity I would imagine (knock on wood,) but for us here in Florida it does the job.
Congrats on the baby boy! Wow! Very exciting! Can’t wait to hear the quirks and features of the new arrival!
Cool Land Cruiser, too. Enjoy!
This is the best selling and most common car here in the UAE (tie with the Nissan Patrol). They drive through the city all day and desert on the weekend carrying the whole family for 20 years with only oil changes. Definitely the most polyvalent car on the market, as long as you can access cheap fuel!
We get them for about 1/2 the US price here. 50k for a 150kkm one is insane.
Lol a used v8 "Sahara" pack sells for around $285,000 here in Sri Lanka
@@yungboicontigo9278 Armada is a very downgraded Patrol from the off-roading perspective. Not to mention that ugly rear bumper.
And the most important thing is that ICE COLD A/C in the desert!
That Land Cruiser looks awesome. Congratulations. This 200 series model looks much better than the 300 series. Amazing the things you can afford by making videos.
I remember a couple months ago I was shopping for a CX9 or a minivan for my growing family, just like Doug. Here I am today with a used LX570 in the garage just realizing this video incepted me.
This is the most, and arguably the best justification I’ve ever seen articulated for buying a nine year old car. I dig it Daddy Doug.
Are you high? How much kool-aid have you been drinking? He bought an SUV to keep on a small island on the other side of the country when he vacations there. Nothing about that seems practical or justified. He found something he wanted, bought it, and talked himself into justifying the purchase.

Awesome! I'm in San Diego and own 2 Land Cruisers. I'm obsessed. It's hard to explain, my son thinks I'm crazy, asking why I don't buy the latest flashy Merc or a Range Rover, I just love these cars. They drive super smooth, are rock solid, and are the only car allowed to traverse the Serengeti - which pretty much sums it up.
@Lee Iacoca I'm hella jealous y'all can get an lc for 80 grand, in my country prob set you back a cool 180k
@@ashsaloft8582 haha, it costs $470,000 in my country ;-;
@Lee Iacoca In my country, it costs $470,000
@Lee Iacoca And a Lexus LX 570 costs $495,000 ;-; At least, it’s good the Porsche Taycan is reasonable enough here, $180,000 but the Land Cruiser and Lexus are just mad crazy overpriced.
@Lee Iacoca even that will be expensive here, no one has a Rolls Royce here (I mean at least I haven’t heard anyone have it, even the people that do have it, they made it themselves by either modifying a Toyota Crown or Mark X which basically means it isn’t a rolls) and the V12 engine taxes are way beyond imagination. Every car is literally so overpriced here in Pakistan.
Some advice: Make sure you use high quality gas. As you know, sitting gas separates (goes bad) over time. Either add a stabilizer or put in manufactured (canned) gas when you are away for months. Another concern is water condensing in the gas tank. Unlike mild SD, temperature swings in the winter on Nantucket will produce condensation. It is my opinion that Toyotas run best when they are used regularly. Maybe have/pay a neighbor take it out for a spin once or twice a month. Lastly, I'd suggest a once a year undercarriage treatment to inhibit corrosion. Perhaps NH Oil or some similar treatment. Cheap insurance to counter future rust issues on a 45K vehicle.
Congrats on the baby Doug! Wishing you and your family the best and i’m sure the Land Cruiser will be super helpful to you
Living in Australia, you see Landcruiser's like this literally everywhere. They are great machines.
But rarely in 5.7L V8 petrol engine, though and for good reason - fuel economy, or lack thereof.
same here in the middle east, not a day goes by when I don't see a land cruiser
@@HammerRocks Only the Lexus ones in Australia got the 5.7. You could get a 4.7 petrol one though.
@@cjdacka Ahh yes. You're absolutely correct. It's amazing how the V8 diesel is such a sought after engine. Attracting a $20-$30k premium over an equivalent V8 petrol model of similar condition & mileage. It almost makes you want to bite the bullet and get a V8 petrol LC200 over the diesel.
@@HammerRocks you mean a 50-100k Premium now. Have you seen the prices? No other car on the market in 4x4 Diesel holds 'As Good RESALE'.
Great buy Doug! My dad had an 87 Land cruiser. Would've still had it today if it wsnt for the rust issues. First thing you should do is get a good undercoating applied for the longevity of the frame. Once you go Land Cruiser you never go back...
I could listen to Doug talking about vehicles for hours honestly... And truthfully, that's what I do!
Great choice! I have a 2001 with only 105k miles. Love it! My second cruiser. They just go. True about the gas mileage. Doesn’t matter how heavy ( or light ) your foot is, you get 11-12 mpg. I never plan to get rid of this truck.
As someone whose owned LX’s and GX’s, I understand what you mean by the feel of the drive. It’s unique. It’s unlike Benz or BMW but it still feels incredibly substantial and well made, even if it is outdated. Congrats on the new ride.

Love when Doug buys cars. After a couple years of his channel exploding and him not splurging, its fun to see him make purchases like this. And even then it's still logically justified
WTF are you talking about? He has been buying cars left and right, every few months.

I remember driving the 2008 when they came out. Such a stark contrast to the Sequoia from the same model year - the Sequoia felt like a boat rocking in the ocean. The Land Cruiser drove and handled way more like a car, very solid and planted, and unlike any other SUV I had driven. That was when I understood why the Land Cruiser was special.
Never underestimate the best that the Japanese can build - if I could only have two cars in my garage it would be a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Nissan GT-R.
ratio
As someone who drives both regularly. Its unreal how different they do drive
I had similar experience driving between Chevy Tahoe and LC. LC handling is more precise and nimble.
Nailed it. Even my 80 Series (1995 with the K294 Locking Differentials) steers and handles and drives way smoother than my 2003 Sequoia. Which is hard to believe unless you know how much Japanese culture and values are built into the vehicle. They have tremendous pride in Land Cruiser. Sequoia drives great, but nothing like a Land Cruiser.
I go through the same hyper analyzing process when buying a car as well. So many small yet significant reasons for getting a certain car along with a ridiculous amount of research. Cool to see someone else’s perspective on it.

I once drove a 2017 Prado in North Africa ( Sudan ), road was full of massive potholes, rocks, sands, cracks and all sort of things. Prado drove on the road like a champ!
Never enjoyed driving a car like driving a Prado, its an absolute beast! Going through potholes the Prado felt like a tank, going through any massive puddle of waters it was nothing for the Prado, the list goes on and on. I even had a small accident where someone (impatience) hit the right side pumper, fortunately his car took more damage and the Prado was like WASSUP. It honestly amasses me how Toyota managed to make such a legend SUV. If Toyota start selling medication, no one would be ever sick!
I had a very comparable experience recently - albeit with a completely different car. Just moved from a metropolitan "fancy" area to the German North Coast. People here do not drive fancy cars, and I have grown to really appreciate that. And when I needed a new car here to transport Kayaks I sold my bmw and bought a Mk3 Ford Focus ST Estate, for pretty much the same reason as Doug did his Land Cruiser. It's unpretentious (apart from the center exhaust, admittedly), it's reliable, it's fun an, most importantly - it. is. analogue. No stupid digital drivers display, no climate control in the screen, it's all easy. Yet it still has a good screen that has CarPlay which will keep it from aging badly. It's simply the best.
I have owned 2013 LX570 for 3 years, a twin brother to your LC. What a fantastic truck. Also, the value holds up quite well.
