This is a Ramayana special episode where we dive deep into the real Ramayana story and whether our knowledge of Ramayana is accurate or not. Today, we have with us Yashodeep Deodhar, an entrepreneur dedicated to studying the Valmiki Ramayana and emphasizing the importance of understanding the Valmiki Ramayana, the original text, as a historically accurate and biographical account of Lord Rama.
In this episode, he discusses the differences between the Valmiki Ramayana and other versions, including those found in popular media. Deodhar also provides insights into the nature of the Vanaras (monkey-like beings) and Rakshasas, arguing they were not distinct species but rather human groups with unique customs and attire. He explores the weaponry and warfare depicted in the Ramayana, suggesting that the text reveals lost technologies and advanced weapon systems.
This was an amazing episode, understanding the true Ramayana. If you love our history-based episode, then this one is for you. I hope you will enjoy this episode and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Bhot badiya ranveer, bring these types of people to podcasts, who can also give Sanskrit references for cross checking👍🏼
He puts together two padas (quarters) from two different sargas, and quotes as if they are in the same slokha, changing the meaning.
He thinks just by quoting samkritam slokhas, nobody will question him as many of us don't know Samskritam and have not read the entire Ramayanam in Samskritam.
Please see my post on why I say so.
His knowledge of the Valmiki Ramayana is outstanding! How he recites from memory the Sanskrit verses. I have read twice the whole Valmiki Ramayana, two different versions by different translators. I have to say that I had to juggle around the vision of Vanars. And it was quite clear to me that Vanars were not monkeys, as he explained, they were forest dwellers. They were not tribes, because there were other tribes like the Nishads. There is a clear distinction between forest dwellers and tribes in the Ramayana.
An alternative theory I came to. Maybe, also Vanars had the ability of shapeshifting like the rakshasas and asuras. Because, as stated in the Valmiki Ramayana, many of the most powerful Vanars from Kishkindha were born from Devas. As some rakshasas and asuras as well. Even some of them had supernatural powers. HanumanJi is the son of Anjani and Vayu and that story is very well explained in the Valmiki Ramayana. Anjani was never described as a female monkey. To understand many things people need to patiently read the Valmiki Ramayana.
Lord Hanuman is the Son of Lord Shiva
@@sujothcherukat1545 Read the Valmiki Ramayana. We are not here discussing about the Purana.
@@sujothcherukat1545 he is not son, Lord Hanuman is ansh of Shiva, Rudra ansh I.e. Rudransh
Such a brilliant and aware speaker. Very rare to hear today in online talk shows.
Yasodeep’s study is priceless - very logical study. One more clue is - when Valmiki talks of Vaanara wives - there is no talk of Tail. So obviously women did not wear the vaanara attires
What about Anjana, Hanuman's mother? She originally was an apsara but was cursed to become a Monkey, she wasn't cursed to wear a Monkey like attire. Ask yourself why would forest dwelling people want a tail as an attire? 😂
@@desiweabu1614pls quote the exact verses from Ramayana if they are there. Also show where Valmiki describes her with a tail. Simply talking of some random stories do not mean anything. This is a proper serious study of the original text.

Exactly what i thought
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ramayan is our History ❤ and वानर means वन के नर, जंगल ke लोग ❤
Wonderful explanation.
Very well explained.
As I understood it, the Vanaraas were people who simply wanted to live in jungles and forests, away from crowded cities and the hustle and bustle, closer to nature. They were intelligent is no amazement or surprise, we see growing trend in India where many intelligent, educated people are moving to high altitudes, schools and colleges being opened there. They will be termed as "pahadis". Diet was mainly fruits, roots and shoots. The cities they built in forests were more closer and an extension of the nature around.
The fact that they lived is forests over the generations they most probably learned how to walk and swing from branch to branch in between the trees using vines etc, just like in Tarzan Movies. Since this was their daily life the muscular structure was obviously more developed than people living in city comforts and travelling on horsebacks or chariots, just like people living in mountainous regions have more developed leg muscles and breathing system than the ones living in plains.
Lesser complications in daily life also meant they had more time to reflect upon themselves hence, if you believe in this, more spiritual in nature. and maybe even more "Nature Knowing People"
Mace is a less complicated weapon to make, less maintenance and a weapon just for people with body strength so the obvious choice of weapon for Vanaras. For such obvious reasons they were good in 'MalYudh" - sorts of modern day wrestling. Can go on more just by logically connecting the dots but hope as of now this is enough. 🙂
The tail mentioned called Langulam which also means tip of the plough which used to agriculture
So basically they used to tie that metal thing to trunk for defence , ornaments or may he proud courage agriculturist tribe
And one more thing is still South indian men wear a rope to their trunk
Jai Shree Ram Om Namah Shivay Jai Mata Dee Jai Manshadevi Ji Ki Jai Ashoksundhri Ji Ki Jai Naagpanchami Ji Ki
Wow nicely explained
Thank you very much Ranveer. This is a question which many would have had
The Guest is fantastic..... would find out more of his work for sure.
I went through some of the ancient books and what i understood is when there were many different kingdoms, each kingdom had some important symbol like surya for suryavanshi , chandra for chandravanshi, similarly agni, samudra, varun and same goes for kapi where kapis or monkeys were the national symbol for those kingdom and they believed that they belonged to their respective symbols like agni, vanar etc.
Interessting 😮
Thank you Ranveer for inviting this expert.
Bhakti and stories like Ramayana should be based on ones belief grounded with the values for same minded people or culture or society. But, when people like him tries to find logical and scientific explanation on each and every aspect of these epics, it soon ends up in an illogical way and we indirectly insults these epics and the belief erodes. These epics are created with a mixture of truth and fiction to deliver a strong message that transcends generations!!!! Ramayana is a very good example of this approach.... So, you can either take it or leave it, but don't research on it!!!

Jain Ramayan describes Kishkindha people loved monkeys so much due to Monkeys' mischievous and joyful aspects that they were protected. Kishkindha people started dressing as monkeys. Also, in the region of Kishkindha, there were a lot of gyandhar, and they had knowledge to change forms and hence also took up monkey form

Best proof is of how in our ancient temple our ancestors depicted lord hanuman in sculpture. They know the best. I believe in age old temple sculpture.
Arey but how will influencers get views if they talk sense? Let's talk of spaceships, look for ancient aliens, and try to parse scripture literally so that money can be made. Same influencers will immediately turn around and dump on us if that suits the commercial interests.
Hanuman is still depicted so because his sreshta sadhakas who have got his darshan like Neem Karoli baba
Vanar does not mean monkey at all! Vanar means वन के नर. It is true that they had tails that looked like tails of a lion. But they were not animals. They had rituals.

Awesome clarification with full conviction! One question that I still have is that Rama justifying the killing of Vaali suggesting that Vaali is a rogue animal and needed to be killed.
Rogue animalistic behaviour of capturing wife and kingdom of his own brother Sugriv. Bhagwan Ram was right.
Vaali was an Adharmi
Bhagwan did the right thing
@@Ram_The_Infinite Yes, however, Rama justifies Valis killing by suggesting that Vali was a rogue animal and not a human.
@@ts0hari quote the actual verse from the scripture
Point to be noted ornament is not always something that u can put on or put off, it is just similar to beauty is an ornament of a women and tail is an ornament to lord Hanuman

Maybe vanars were Ancient Tamils in Southern India 🤔
I didn't understand then how hanumanji tail became long in ravan palace?
The word 'Vaanara' is intriguing. It is said that it is Vaa..Narah...meaning that they are otherwise humans only.
While reminding the competence and ability of Hanuman Jambavan says that Hanuman is as clever as Rama and Lakshmana and as strong as Sugreeva! Then they are humans only in Vaanara garb!
Vanaras were Mongoloid people like Hanuman from Nepal or Bali-Sugriv from Indonesia and so on.
Ranveer your hand mudra has great meaning
Mahodaya,
I differ from your interpretation.
In this slokha that you quote at 1.56
तौ त्वया प्राकृतेनैव गत्वा ज्ञेयौ प्लवङ्गम।
इङ्गितानां प्रकारैश्च रूपव्याभाषणेन च4.2.24।।
Here प्राकृतेनैव could mean : Go in an ordinary form, unsuspecting to Rama and Lakshmana.
The second line you uttered, is in a different sarga.
कपिरूपं परित्यज्य हनुमान्मारुतात्मजः।
भिक्षुरूपं ततो भेजे शठबुद्धितया कपिः4.3.2।।
When you said the slokha, viewers think that they are in the same slokha..its not.
The second slokha just says that.. Hanuman gave up his Monkey form and took the form of an aesetic, which is the most ordinary and unsuspecting form in a jungle. (doesn't say that its the natural form)
And now, I will give you a slokham from Sundarakandam sarga 10, where Hanuman momentarily thinks of Mandodari as Mother Seetha and becomes overjoyed.
आस्फोटयामास चुचुम्ब पुच्छं ननन्द चिक्रीड जगौ जगाम।
स्तम्भानरोहन्निपपात भूमौ निदर्शयन् स्वां प्रकृतिं कपीनाम्।।5.10.54।।
He kisses his tails, claps and does a few gesticulations,
and Valmiki says... निदर्शयन् स्वां प्रकृतिं कपीनाम्
Hanuman displays his self monkey-like natural traits.
Point to note is that he uses the word कपीनाम् and स्वां प्रकृतिं next to each other.
Can you explain this mahodaya ?
The other two quotes are not really any support to your argument.
हस्तस्य भूषणं दानम्
भूषणं can be used in several ways..
Tail is the one which enhances the monkey's appearance.. of course.. that doesn't mean it could be attached and detached.
And Rama does say not to change to any other form during the war.. again, it only implies that Vanaras can take any form.
Interested Marathi people can read Dr.P.V.Vartak's book 'वास्तव रामायण '..
In addition, I remember reading in Valmiki Ramayan that Vanaras ate फल मूल.. No where I read about them eating any other veg dishes or meat or fish.
Really d tail was d attire.....Jai hanuman
They are early human species called Dryopithecus (more ape like) & who were contemporary to ‘Rama’pithecus the man like primates … see RAMA in Ramapithecus
what about Jambavan and Jatayu ? Was jatayu a flying costume man ? was jambavan wearing bears masks ? what about vishnus vahana garud ? who was kak bhushundi was he man or crow ?
Vanars are forest elf.
Common its much better to portrait them as forest elf
Ranveer - one suggestion is please keep good expression on face while guest is talking… it looks very tensed or odd… just a suggestion ❤👍🙏🏻
Hanuman the Super Vanara must have been resseructed from ancient Lemuria.
Ornament doesn’t mean something that is attached to one’s body artificially.
Hair is women’s ornament. Because we take great pride and actually use our hair to make us look good.
Anything that is used for enchantments can be called ornamental.
Hence the “ornament” “abushaman” doesn’t mean Hanuman could take of his tail like it was not actually tail but some artificial attachments.
But I do believe that Vanaar could mean other species of humans which are now extinct.
Ranveer’s constipated face 😅
❤
Ramayan's Vanaras were Kimpurush. A race with superhuman capabilities...🙏
Where did they go ? Did you hide them in your cupboard.
Where do they come up with these ideas .

In the madras Sanskrit college vanaras are interpreted to be our Neanderthals, the vanara army were essentially monkeys in various stages of evolution.
Not monkeys - they were human species; probably not homo sapiens
@@mlg1279 yes, the Darwin theory of evolution.
@@mlg1279 you are attributing current day monkeys to the monkey species of that time. they were monkeys, if they were humans then Rama killing vali in that way would be adharmic, and ravana would not have asked not to include Naras, and vanaras, as 2 distinct groups in his boon. vanaras were monkeys but evolved with human like structure and behavior, and intelligence, and societal structure, if vanaras were humans then vali and sugreevas father's origin I think would not have been possible. there are many things in Ramayana that won't make sense, if modern historians try to force vanaras to be human, to fit the modern narrative. ithihasas should be as they are, without adulteration to fit the narrative of someone else. 🙏
For this answer u must read the book " Immortal love of Rama " by G.B. Kanuga... This book answers all your questions..
They were saiyans
Who are saiyans?
Vanaras are real saiyans
All these Information should be Spread in All the Local languages of Indian States, Especially among the Tribals, then All the Religious Conversions will Stop. 🚩🚩🚩.
It’s there. Just you don’t know and people don’t read them
The conversions will stop once people start getting the basic necessities that is jobs, food, shelter, safety, security & justice. Majority of people getting converted lack one or more of these things which makes them think there's light on the other end.
@@Mohit_Yadav168 Agree with you 👍.
It's said that the ram sethu was built with the help of the vanaras. Could these forest dwellers build it?
If they didn't practice agriculture what did they eat to survive
If the tail is like a attire that they can put n or put off, then Hauman was able coil his tail and sits on it in the court of Lanka..???
This is his own version, not entirely true... Vanara doesn't mean monkeys, it means forest dwellers. Also they are mostly extinct species likely Neanderthals..
Dude even Maharishis, yogis and adivasis used to live and dwell in forests
So we start calling them Vanar?
Besides Valmiki Ji also mentions they were all "Kapi" which is a species of apes only
I will present one of my ideas which i got by reading different ancient books and puranas. Ancient kingdoms always used some animal or element as their symbol and believed they belonged to them. Like if someone worshipped fire, then people from different kingdoms called him son of agni or son of fire. That's how suryavanshi, chandravanshi, agnivanshi, varunvanshi, samudravanshi came into existence. So by that, it is quite probable that the kingdom hanuman ji belonged to had monkeys as their symbols. So they were called monkeys.
On other hand , they could somewhat neantherthals type humans , slightly different than current homo sapiens. So they were forest dwellers, strong built and clever. It is for sure that they were not the monkeys our tv serials portray.⚡
Also do go through my youtube channel where i am trying to present the true history of india including vedic dynasties. Do show your support♥️ Btw Jai bajrangbali
There is one doubt which i am not able to get an answer for. If the tails were an ornament and they wore it. My doubt is how Hanuman was able to increase the size of the tail and make a seat out of it when he encountered Ravana

This is because of serials who never show the correct portrayal of our scriptures .
Hanuman was a. Human😊
Anand Sadhale marathi writer wrote in one of his book that Vanaras r not different from that of any human beings that time. Valmiki attached tail to them...😅
the vanaras, were not humans LIKE RAMA and others. They were monkeys, who were human like, with human like intelligence, and human like customs. if vanaras were humans, the Rama killing vali from a hidden location while vali was fighting with sugreev would be adharmic. another point, is in ravana's boon from brahma, he specifically said he will not ask to include NARAS, AND VANARAS, in his boon. Naras, and vanaras, 2 distinct groups. just because they know the art of transformation does not mean they are removing the monkey costume and are human.
Try reading Rāmāyanam instead of passing judgements. Vāli had asked the reason for killing him so and Shri Rāma has explained it to him, after which he told Angad to follow Shri Rāma as Rāma is Dharma incarnate.
@@JusticeAboveAll-ro3sm yea, and I am paraphrasing here, , vali himself says that they were vayam muula phala ashanaah vanacaara mrigaah [rama, we are tubers and fruits eaters, forest dwelling animals](kishkinda kanda Sarga 17, verse 30), ashanaah means posture(he took this meaning which is not appropriate meaning here because then there would be no verb explaining anything about tubers and fruits, would vali say we are tubers and fruits with posture like forest dwelling animals?!!!) but ashanah also means EATING; vali also says you who live in the city are a man are also following our animalistic nature. Rama said, you being a vanara, I did not have to follow the rules of engagement with that of fellow humans, and should follow the rules of a hunt for a non human. there by I can hunt you vali from far, from near, from behind a tree. since you do not know the dharma of your own race, and took your brother's wife while your brother is alive, you should not start talking about dharma. killing you in this manner is me following dharma. (kishkinda kanda Sarga 18, verse 38-40)
Ohh man 😂😂😂 you just quote the things but you have to read all the ramayan...tell me lord ram eating habits in forest vanvas ....the same thing tubers and fruits ....Is that mean lord ram is not humans....😂😂😂....you have to understand those humans who love more and more the mother nature lived in the forest with the attire of monkeys that symbolise more of the humans like animals..... understand brother.....we have lots of tribes like vanaras , Nagas , and many more some are living in cities some are living in deep forest some are living inbetween forest and cities....but no one destroyed the natures like us that's how we survived for 10000 years its the minimal description of years I have given to you brother .....so go read all the ramayan and mahabharat and puranas all are the history books that we have left because of colonial education system....we had in the past 😢.....I suggest you the yt channel for mahabharat (watch god) this channel has true unfiltered and non distorted contents ....

Why people talk wrong theories on talk shows? Whenever body part is mentioned as an armament in Puranas which means that the body part is not a flaw and which makes them special. Hanuman tail used as strong weapon and no know was able to reach him or stop him at Lanka… so ordered to burn it to stop him…. These kind of false misguiding information should be stopped
Probably Ramayana is much older than what we think and vanaras are Neanderthals.
I have a doubt then,
After rama kills vaali.. vaali asks rama how a righteous man you broke the law and hit me with arrow in hiding..
Rama then replies, the law doesn't apply to vaanaraa's and he was not fighting against him, but was hunting him.. hence he did not break any law..
Rama also states that vaali broke one of their law I.e. as per vaanara's law, a younger sibling can marry elders wife if he is dead, but elder cannot marry his younger brothers wife, which vaali broke..
What about the size of the tail of Angad which grew to form a n Aasan in front of Ravan?????.
