- we said I do! Oh man, what a week it was. Still recovering from the stress of doing everything DIY, from cake to centre pieces and floral boquets- but gosh, it was so worth it, and so much fun. Here is the making of my wedding cake :D I hope the tricks in here are helpful to anyone considering doing it themselves! And if you aren't keen on DIY and you are based in Melbourne, and you would like to borrow this cake, message me 🤣

Usually when people use display cakes, there’s usually a giant sheet cake behind the scenes that’s cut up for guests :)

Is fake cake an Aussie thing? I live in the states and have never heard of this. Our wedding cakes are cut and eaten as part of the reception festivities.
hi hun, these is becoming common place nower days :) normally a section of the styrofoam is transplanted with real cake, but I just had real cake hiding away in the kitchen.

so confused. why did you use a fake cake for such a special occasion?
A lot of people use faux display cakes for many reasons. Top reason, at least my understanding, being it’s more cost and time efficient. Theres usually a less/non-decorated behind the scenes made for cutting and serving. But it allows for longer display for pictures and such as well. Plus there’s less risk of melting if the room or outdoors gets too warm.
Because of what she does, here on YT…she should’ve made a real cake.
hi lovely! I didn't want to the stress of transporting and preparing a real cake before the wedding :) I did have real, undecorated cakes in the kitchen of the venue ready to cut and serve, which means the cake was left out on display the whole time which made me happy haha! A piece of me hurts inside when I am at weddings and see the gorgeous work someone has done on a wedding cake- it gets cut within the first hour of the reception and then taken away.. so little time to shine when so much work goes into the art. It is also more cost effective and serves as a wonderful keepsake.
