      Oilers had another dramatic moment that same season against Dallas. Nov 3rd with 4 seconds left in the game, hemsky had a goal waved off on a blown call for a glove pass. Oilers would've tied that game and had another guaranteed point. Sometimes luck goes one way, sometimes the other. Let's just enjoy McDavid.

    The interesting part is the announcer saying Stefan should be ashamed of himself but he actually did exactly what he should have done- he skated the puck in for the easy tap in without trying anything fancy. It was definitely a fluke bounce and fluke sequence of events. Announcer should be ashamed of himself for blaming Stefan.

      I agree that Ferraro was ripping into him way too much but after the puck bounced on him and he fell he should’ve put it into the corner or something instead of throwing it into the slot. At that point you just want to place it somewhere that doesnt give them time for a counterattack

    The more I watch it and the more I hear actual players talk about it (i.e. not me) the more I realize the guy was going for the lowest risk, least original, least spectacular, maximally run-of-the-mill finish to that situation. He "did everything right." Mathematically, there's every reason why he should have scored and we would all have forgotten about this moment as one of the most unremarkable empty netters ever. But even under these conditions, the 0.001% exists and that's what we remember, and we call our 99.999% methods into question because of this 0.001%.

    Stefan's mistake on this play wasn't so much that he missed the empty net (worst possible luck for the puck to jump the way it did when it did), but where he majorly screwed the pooch was when he panicked after missing the net and just blindly threw the puck back into play (falling down in the process) instead of just taking the puck to the corner to eat up the remaining 8 seconds of the game.

    • @my3dviews
      @my3dviews 3 роки тому

      That is right. That is what gave the Oilers the time to score. Had he held onto the puck, they would have wasted more than two seconds trying to get it from him, even if he just pushed it into the corner.

    • @soulessshadow5356
      @soulessshadow5356 3 роки тому

      @@my3dviews Exactly! Him passing it back over his head was just a dumb move. He could have easily just slide the puck into the corner and then slide in on top of it and made them waste time trying to get possession, but instead he lobs the puck backwards over his head right into the waiting stick of the Oilers. I'm sure he didn't mean to pass it to them, he probably thought it was another Stars player in the zone with him but it wasn't and that was his fatal mistake that cost us the game.

For that one crucial play that determines the game where the difference between a save and a goal was the inch difference that the curvature of your blade took away. the reason why he didn't shoot it was because he wanted to get all calm and relaxed like the game was over
    the second you have a chance to shoot which he did, you pull the trigger... you dont need to blast it, wrist it top shelf, just pop it in end of story
    he chose not to, and the hockey gods punished the 1st overall pick, bounces happen all the time

    The puck hopping over his stick is just bad luck, but what makes this play a double face palm is that while he's falling down he passes the puck to the Oilers player and sets up the entire scoring play.
    On an unrelated topic, can anyone explain him being drafted first overall? If you look at his stats in the years leading up to the draft, they don't look worthy of even a first rounder, let alone first overall. Someone was smoking the crack pipe in the Thrashers scouting department.

    ya they would have gotten kane, but then they wouldn't get mcdavid, so technically... stefan missing that goal got the oilers mcdavid.

    My thing is, it's not really Stefan's fault, how many guys are going to be able to react to the puck jumping over their stick with that small amount of room? He did the right thing, try to skate it into the net. He just got unlucky.
