Hey Loyd, awesome vid as per. A couple months on I don't suppose you have an opinion on these for something like UTS? Looks like my perfect shoe but there's many tales of Salomon rubber being terrible on wet rock so it'd be good to know of its performance.
Hi Alex The Salomon rubber has definitely improved over the years when it comes to wet rock. However, it’s still not as good as Vibram megagrip on wet rocky trails. It really comes down to the weather on UTS, if it’s dry you wouldn’t have any issues but I’d always use a Vibram megagrip outsole for races like that just in case 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Great insight, thanks for the reply. It hurts as I'm a bit of a Salomon fan but I'll likely pull the trigger on the Agility Peak 5, which I know you rate highly.
I have the Genisis S lab. Would have liked the drop to be a bit less on this version. The 4mm drop on the Thundercross is great and I thought they might be moving in the right direction.
Why? For wider feet that would be nice. But he said this Shoe is more narrow than the s lab. Also there are a lot of runners how don't need a rockplate with that stack hight. You don't need to buy it. But for some of us maybe its an option. For me its to narrow.
@@Blank-KnightI have the pulsar, great shoe. The plastic ‘plate’ is for propulsion apparently, it’s like a salad tong too, not a full plate. Like the prongs on the end of a fork. Either way it seems to provide very little propulsion 😂
What about hiking? I'm thinking between these and the ultra flows. The latter feel extremely comfortable and soft, but don't look durable. Any suggestions?
You could definitely use the Genesis for hiking. Unfortunately I haven’t run in the Ultra Flows so it’s hard to say? The Ultra Flow look a lot more cushioned than the Genesis, if you like cushioning I’d go for the Ultra Flows 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Interesting that they made this version for the mass, and I am looking forward to see upcoming colorways. A model to consider for next year, let´s see which models it can compete againts.
i had a voucher for 130 euro with salomon i could use. my problem is that salomon always feels smaller. in fact with my orthopaedic sole i have a 44 and the salomon i have older model are too small for my fingers. with our without orthopaedic sole. now i have a newer one even bigger and more stable for feet and knee and sure does not even fit in the 44 shoe i have. so may be i l try a 44 and 2/3 no idea........but must get it on line so if it does not fit a pain to send them back etc
Ed, Intresting, I might check out the S/Lab version. Btw I'm curious why the Nnormal Tomir's haven't featured on your channel yet. I'm enjoying them a lot.. Could you share what make gillet you were wearing, nice cut, looks like something I might enjoy.
Thank you Loyd. As always the keyword is narrow. When you say that a shoe fits like a glove or run a bit tight, well then I know it's not a shoe for my feet. It looks similar to one of my favourites, the Nike Wildhorse 8 so I'll just stick to that one😊😊 😊
Awesome video Loyd! Love that you enjoyed this shoe too, definitely agree on the awesome design! Seems like I may have got away with the "pinching in the toe box" by going half a size up, 150 miles in now and still going strong 👊🏼 Also, see you at the Arc of Attrition starting line 🙈🔥
good to see how Salomon are changing the line up. I picked up a pair of the slab for £110 so very happy but this looks like a good more everyday option assuming the fit is ok
Wait! You sized up? Most Slab Genesis reviews say size down from say Saucony or Nike size, which I did and which does work. So is the fit different than the Slab?
Hi Loyd Great video as always - makes me want to go running! How do these and the slab version compare to the thundercross in terms of cushioning? In particular on road sections. I find the thundercross lack cushioning in the heel section. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. I’d say the Thundercross is actually more cushioned than the Genesis and the S/Lab Genesis 👍 I find the Thundercross cushioning pretty good on the road but I do tend to run on a forefoot/midfoot strike. Hope this helps 🙂
@@Run4Adventure thanks! I was choosing between these and vj maxx for my ocr races and a vertical k this summer. Just ordered the vj maxx. Thanks for the review!
Thanks Loyd! I am really hesitant between the Agility Peak 5, Mafate 4 and the Slab genesis for my 100k in May. Durability is a major concern to me as well as heal counter. Now I have to try this shoe too 😂
@@aldypratama9395 i saw several athletes like Pelletier change to the Slab genesis mid ultramarathon because they are roomier and durable especially on mountain runs. The Mafate were also used by many in the last UTMB. I however don’t want a shoe that the upper will die after 100km…
@@aldypratama9395 from my references and those I follow and friends, both are very good with probably the Mafate taking the lead in wet conditions. Loyd? Your thoughts?
The Vibram megagrip rubber is always going to out perform Salomons Contagrip rubber, especially in wet conditions. As far as durability goes, I’m 320 miles into my Merrell Agility peak 5 and the upper is still looking great. The midsole is nicely bedded in and the outsole is holding up well 👍🙂
Solomon shoes are made hilariously narrow. So narrow that a 5 year old child’s foot won’t go in. Anyone who can wear Salomon shoes has pencil feet
and they are short!
Thanks for the review - but I think I'll be 'old school' on this one, as the earlier Salomon S/Lab Genesis are brilliant (except for the cost).
Though I’m partial to just a couple shoe brands, I watch all your videos cause I find them relaxing and entertaining.

An s-lab version that's wider than the ordinary version?! No rockplate? Not good Salomon, not good

Yeah, that's indeed a surprise. 22m front and midfoot really cries for one, even the casual Pulsar model has such a plate.

Really good looking pair of shoes.
It is a good looking shoe Grant 😎
How's the stability of this version? The S/Lab version was about as steady as a tipsy flamingo at the heel, especially when walking.

spot on, I ran a 50 miler in these and it went well until the narrow toe box wrecked me

Ran the Dunes a couple of weeks back found a couple of the slate path markers had fallen over .

I totally agree, my S/Lab Genesis are a uk 9.5 and they fit just right. I’d say the standard Genesis do fit a bit smaller 👍
What day are you speaking at the running show at the NEC in Jan?
Genisis vs Prodigio, who wins? I have the Prodigio and are awesome.
I’d personally go for the PRODIGIO, it’s a really good all rounder 👍
I don't think I heard whether the shoe is water resistant or water proof. Thoughts?
I’m pretty sure It’s not either 👍

How about performances compared to Hoka's Mafate Speed 4 Lloyd? Which one will you choose for 30k - 50k trail?
I’d personally go for the Mafate Speed 4. I find the midsole a bit more cushioned and the Vibram megagrip outsole is brilliant 👍
@Run4Adventure Thanks Lloyd! really appreciated that answer.

@@aldypratama9395 No worries, thanks for watching 👍
Hows the outsole rubber compound? Is it sticky?
