  • La Sportiva Prodigio review - first run and first impressions. It's always exciting when the Italian brand La Sportiva bring out a new model of trail running shoe because it doesn't happen that often. We managed to grab a pair of their new Prodigio shoes which feature some new innovations from the brand and I think it's going to perform quite differently to some of their other trail shoes. In this video we break down the new construction in a bit more detail and I lace them up and take them out for their first run on the trails of Cornwall.
    Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

    Try it today for the first time on a mixed terrain, I found them exceptional, a perfect grip even on terrible terrain such as the bottom of a dry stream with the rocks still wet. I also like the fit and the not too excessive cushioning. The shoe is very stable and protective. Greetings from Italy

    Great initial review Lloyd. I was on the fence about these when I tried them on at first, but I’m glad I did eventually take them out today on the challenging Sanitas trail in Boulder. They ended up being a huge surprise for me kind of like you, I’ve tried all of the other models that you mentioned, and I completely agree with your assessment. All around a great shoe so fa. Will put some distance on them next time and see how they handle around eight to ten miles.

    I've had a pair for a couple of weeks. Love the foam's rebound and the rocker shape: really makes you want to run(!) and the rocker shape is very nice up and down steeper hills. The stiff ankle region gives very good support but may need a little time to mould to your foot shape: I had slight pressure on my outer ankle bones but after not many miles at all the stiffner started to change shape and now fits like a glove with a very secure feeling. More room for my little toes than Speedgoat 5s but not at all sloppy feeling. Great hold from the midfoot upper wrap system. Probably not going to suit people with a more swollen ankle shape though.

    I've has 6 pair of speedcross 5 in a row so a fan of a snug shoe. I've brought some La Sportive Mutants which are really aggressive but fit great and awesome for mid winter. I have 100km run in july through derbyshire so looking for a bit more of a forgiving for road to trail and hard pack summer trail.
    I've tried on here at home Caldera 7's ( way too soft) , ultraglide2's (not soft enough). I now have an Altemesa 300 on one one foot and a La Sportive Prodigo on the other foot. It's a really close run thing but I think the Prodigio has it on ergonomic fit at my usual size of 9. ANy advice welcome Loyd. NB thanks for all the great work you're doing on here pal ? Hello Lloyd, thank you for a good video and shoe review of the new La Sportiva shoe, I’ve tried their shoes in the past and like you, I felt they were a little stiff in the midfoot, and I found the traction wasn’t quite as good as the Saucony Peregrine and the xodus ultras. I picked up a pair of Merrell trill peak 5’s, but I haven’t run in them yet. I do longer distance bigger mountain runs out in Southern California, like cactus to clouds and Mount Whitney mountain, which is usually rocky technical stuff. My goal this year is to run the Grand Canyon R2R2R, which is about 40 miles, and I’m trying to find the best shoe for a good traction on that terrain, comfort over those longer miles, and maybe something that has a little bit of protection because sometimes I kick those rocks, ouch :-)
    Given your expertise and all the shoes that you have tried, including the Trail Peak 5, xodus ultra’s, this new La Sportiva and other similar category shoes, I’m wondering, which shoes you would recommend I consider for this Grand Canyon run? Any thoughts? I greatly appreciate and thank you again.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  19 днів тому +1

      I would say the Agility Peak 5 would be the best option if they fit your foot shape well. The Vibram megagrip outsole is brilliant and there’s a rock plate worked into the midsole that offers a good level of underfoot protection! Hope this helps and best of luck with your race 💪🙂

And I’m wondering how that shoe felt compared to the Merrell agility peak 5 on these longer runs? You kindly replied to my question about a good shoe suggestion for the rim to rim to rim Grand Canyon run, but you released your video after your reply and your suggestion on the Merrell agility Peak 5. I think you said you got a blister on your heel, and maybe you didn’t have any hotspots in the Merrell. Maybe I’ll go and see if I can try on the Prodigio for fitment and comfort. I’m curious your thoughts comparing the two shoes? Thank you kindly for your insight in time.
