  • Kolbe’s try analysis. So much going on in the build-up to this series changing try! Please share your comments on what you see...
    Am transitioned from D into attack fast with great footwork and offload to get the play moving.
    Le Roux was so good with the ball in hand. First of all, scanning to see where to attack then a beautiful out-to-in running line to draw defender but critically preserve space for the devastating Kolbe.
    Watch how Kolber gives the defender no hope by planting off his left foot to ensure the defender's momentum keeps going the wrong way.
    Also, watch how he transfer the ball to his right arm so once he’s stepped inside he can then hand off the final defender.

    Great video! Le Roux also runs with the ball in both hands, giving himself options on a pass to either side and/or dummy, thus creating a moment’s hesitation for the defence (the reason why it seems he has so much time on the ball). Reinach, alongside him, is also communicating clearly about options. Kolbe gets the ball and then it’s pure rugby gold.

    As a springbok supporter this was one lucky try and I'm saying it in a good way. On another day the ball would've probably bounced forward from Wiese. Everything just went our way that moment and I'm glad it did.

    A pretty standard 2 on 1, draw the defender, then release the pass. Let's not over hype it too much lads! Solid finishing from Kolbe tho. Lions had a similar one in the first half, just he didn't let the pass go! He'll have sleepless nights over that one

      its worth hyping up because Kolbe is just sooo good. I think the skills of the BI Lions players are hyped up a bit too much though. As soon as they win something big, they are Knighted. Our guys does these things day in and day out and make it look so easy.

    The space was made when WDM went to challenge for the up and under and nobody covered his wing. SA train for that exact eventuality. It wasn’t just playing what’s in front of them. They knew it could happen. They spot it, call it, run it.

    • @arthurwestcott5437

      You're correct, and it should have been the Fullback who covered in that instance.
      But the Fullback was Liam Williams, who isn't a very good Fullback at the best of times let alone on this tour.
      So the Lions were always going to struggle with him at 15.

    • @ContactCoach
      @ContactCoach  2 роки тому +1

      Oh that's a tough one I feel. Kolbe has so much credit in the bank for stepping inside and outside along with his speed that this puts the defender in a tough position- especially when he's tracking across at speed. That's not to say that Williams may look at it back and feel he could have done better. He's a world-class FB in his own right.

    • @arthurwestcott5437
      @arthurwestcott5437 2 роки тому +1

      Williams wasn't good all game tbh. He was quite poor all tour in fact.
      Talked a good game pre-match at the press conference. But then failed to deliver, even under the high ball which was supposed to be the one area he was better at.
      The two-on-one draw and pass he butchered was absolutely terrible. Just amateur level bad. Williams was a reputation pick, not a form selection - and it showed all tour.

  • @ottavio2dr
    @ottavio2dr 2 роки тому +5

    Actually Reinach was in a better position.... with all the defenders gliding outside. Kolbe needed to seriously employ himself.... So it was the riskiest option.

    • @joelkruger6654

    • @ContactCoach
      @ContactCoach  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks for sharing. I think an important point is that Le Roux had options and that's why I feel this play was great. The transition to get themselves into this attacking position, with options, and in minimal time was fantastic.

    • @ottavio2dr
      @ottavio2dr 2 роки тому

      @@joelkruger6654 Reinach was probably the 2nd or 3rd fastest player on the field that day... faster than Josh W or Van der Merve, Williams, etc. The player tracking him was 2m behind - no chance. Dickie was able to reach Kolbe because he lost time avoiding Williams. It was a bit lucky with the handoff. Passing outside (to Kolbe) after fixing the deffender, LeRoux took himself out of the support game and disrupted all support possibilities to the ball carrier (Kolbe) so basically that pass took Reinach out too. If Kolbe slides while avoiding Williams or falls after the contact with Dickie, no more support, no more try

    • @ottavio2dr
      @ottavio2dr 2 роки тому

      @@joelkruger6654 in my opinion and from a strictly theoretical perspective Leroux should have run straight, not trying to save space for Kolbe and preserving 2 or 3-4 options... left-right, chip and under with 3 axes

    • @ottavio2dr
      @ottavio2dr 2 роки тому +1

      @@ContactCoach never said anything about transition or Kolbe's action... just said that you highlighted not the best option. I don't know where you are watching rugby, but these kind of transitions can be seen regularly in Top 14 or NZ competitions. SA Currie Cup is not strange either, homeschool competitions too... They only like to exchange blows a bit too much... that's why they are more rare. .. What was extraordinary by the way was not the transition, but the fact they really expected and went for it. In your video you can see 4 SAFAs in the outside channel while midfield is totally uncovered. If Wiese misses the ball, is try in the middle for the Lions. Of course the transition was quick as long as they were prepared for it.... otherwise you will never see empty midfield in Springboks defence. They played the russian roulette and they won, still the ball was pretty messy.

      Le Roux is brilliant in judging available options whether running into to space to receive a pass or with the ball . He creates space for teammates in better positions and his timing of passes is extraordinary. Am's brilliant quick turnaround found Willie already in positional space and his creation of more space and getting rid of a few possible defenders and timing of pass to Kolbe was sheer genius. This try illustrates the quick reactions and speed of Am , Willie and Cheslin.
