You would still need to remove the original pin from the ford bracket.
Brilliant work! Thankyou! I just did the same fix. Instead of a Stanley/utility knife, I used a pair of wire snippers to cut the black plastic piece off the original black housing. I also used a small file to remove all remaining pieces of plastic so that the bushing fitted 'in' the black housing and was flush with the outer surface. Once again, thanks for taking the time to post!
Thanks for watching the video and positive feedback. I'm glad it helped you fix the issue on your car. It's unfortunate that this little item is all it takes to stop you driving the car.
I just spent 2 hours waiting for RACQ to arrive to have a look at my broken down Ford Focus 2010 Lx Duratech. I went to reverse out of a car space at a small shopping center, and suddenly transmission warninglights, and sounds, and I cannot get the car to move. Had to push the car back into the space, and call RACQ. I full expected the transmission was toast and nearly ordered a tow truck. Fortunately, the mechanic was all over the problem, and had a spare transmission cable shifter bushing to replace the badly fragmented ?plastic piece of garbage Ford decided in their 100 years of experience, was suitable for the task. Worked like a charm. Kudos to you for this vid, and kudos to RACQ....and NEVER again will I buy a Ford product.
It's disappointing from Ford that they use plastic bushings that will deteriorate over time, however on an other note the LS Focus we have has been a reliable vehicle since new. The same part also perishes on falcons however you would have had to do over 200,000 kms before it breaks. I'm glad the mechanic got you going again and hopefully that is the last time your car breaks down.
Just had the same thing happen to me in the middle of a shopping centre car park. A guy came along shifted the selector and then popped the cable back on the bush. Good to go. I’m going to cable tie it for good measure
It's nice to know that there are people out there that will lend a hand. You might find that you will need a more permanent solution to the cable tie. Good luck with fixing it.
Mate, thank you for the video. My 2006 fiesta did this to me today a few hours ago. Reversing out of a carpark, click into drive and all of a sudden had no drive or reverse and the sector slides through without engaging. Hopefully tomorrow when I get under the car it is as you have described above. Great video as well. Thanks
@Modaufy Garage Yes I did manage to fix it. When I got under the car it was the same as the focus but it was already modified to a bolt and nut and was attached. This led me to open up the interior and look under the gear selector, and low and behold the same plastic thing was broken and the gear selector had slipped off. Easy fix, but thanks to you I knew where to diagnose the problem from
Does anybody have the spare part number for the OG bushing or for the metal one? My Focus Mk2 it snapped off for the second time. First time at a parking, second time while parking but allowed me to park. It just comes off just like yours in 1:50

You could also try and use a nut and bolt arrangement. You'd need 2 nuts and some washers with a bolt that could fit it all.
I had a similar problem but a VERY EASY FIX. Ford Focus 2007 2 litre automatic would not start, key was stuck in barrel. I had to pop the plastic tab on the auto gear shifter and stick something down there just to move the gear stick. I could only change gears by pushing very hard on the brake and forcing the gear stick. The problem was the little chrome silver plastic sleeve on the bottom of the gear shifter. It had come loose and dropped down about 2mm so it was wedging inside the plastic gear shift mechanism. I put some sticky tape to hold it up in place - problem solved!
@@modaufygarage I have had a quote today of Aud$833 to replace the cable with labour on my 2007 ford focus. NRMA said the plastic connecting end had failed and you have shown me how to replace it.
