▸ Who Is Batman: Batman is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted in the 27th issue of the comic book Detective Comics on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe continuity, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City. Batman's origin story features him swearing vengeance against criminals after witnessing the murder of his parents Thomas and Martha as a child, a vendetta tempered with the ideal of justice. He trains himself physically and intellectually, crafts a bat-inspired persona, and monitors the Gotham streets at night. Kane, Finger, and other creators accompanied Batman with supporting characters, including his sidekicks Robin and Batgirl; allies Alfred Pennyworth, James Gordon, and Catwoman; and foes such as the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, and his archenemy, the Joker.
Kane conceived Batman in early 1939 to capitalize on the popularity of DC's Superman; although Kane frequently claimed sole creation credit, Finger substantially developed the concept from a generic superhero into something more bat-like. The character received his own spin-off publication, Batman, in 1940. Batman was originally introduced as a ruthless vigilante who frequently killed or maimed criminals, but evolved into a character with a stringent moral code and strong sense of justice. Unlike most superheroes, Batman does not possess any superpowers, instead relying on his intellect, fighting skills, and wealth. The 1960s Batman television series used a camp aesthetic, which continued to be associated with the character for years after the show ended. Various creators worked to return the character to his darker roots in the 1970s and 1980s, culminating with the 1986 miniseries The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller.
DC has featured Batman in many comic books, including comics published under its imprints such as Vertigo and Black Label. The longest-running Batman comic, Detective Comics, is the longest-running comic book in the United States. Batman is frequently depicted alongside other DC superheroes, such as Superman and Wonder Woman, as a member of organizations such as the Justice League and the Outsiders. In addition to Bruce Wayne, other characters have taken on the Batman persona on different occasions, such as Jean-Paul Valley / Azrael in the 1993-1994 "Knightfall" story arc; Dick Grayson, the first Robin, from 2009 to 2011; and Jace Fox, son of Wayne's ally Lucius, as of 2021. DC has also published comics featuring alternate versions of Batman, including the incarnation seen in The Dark Knight Returns and its successors, the incarnation from the Flashpoint (2011) event, and numerous interpretations from Elseworlds stories.

If Thomas beat Alfred, it's time for Bruce to put daddy in the ground.
For real for real
He didn't just beat him
Sadly alfred passed away
Wow yeah Thomas Wayne’s motivation makes total sense.
“In another universe my son experienced the same thing that turned me into a vigilante and now I don’t think he deserves to do the same thing I did. I’m gonna side with the same level of criminals which murdered my son in the first place”
Tom King is a doofus.
Om king is a pathetic sadsack.
*King Batman fan:* "Pfft. Pleb. Doesn't understand the brilliance of a perfectly circuitous scheme."
Grant morrison wannabe in a sense
"You don't know what it's like, to be the Batman....to be the sad man..."
-om king.
@@Just_Some_Guy_with_a_Mustache irony is the plots don't make sense. Knightmares, anyone? Even Rob doesn't wanna open that can of worms.
honestly after reading scott snyder's batman it's been really hard to read most other batman comics
What's up with everyone thinking that Snyder's run was actually good? Only the court of owls and death in the family and Zero year were actually good, the rest was awful
@@jeremy9951 it really really wasn't tho. I thought that mr bloom was kinda cool tbh. End game was fantastic imo. All i'm saying is that scott snyder is up my alley in writing and what got me into batman comics and its hard to try to move into other authors when i know i enjoyed scot snyder's so much.
@@hellrder1 Scott Snyder's run is also the one who got me into Batman comics so this is probably why I criticize, so I enjoyed a lot his first issues until what followed Zero Year... Endgame was kinda cool ok I'll admit, but Mr Bloom... god I hated that character and the whole arc, so maybe I'm being too hard on him, his run was actually pretty good, but there are a few arcs and issues that I couldn't stand at all. And Tom King really isn't doing the best job succeeding him imo, his run is overall decent
Honestly I only liked a small portion of Snyder’s run. Even when I like the overall idea of his stories, I can’t seem to really get into his writing. Even his current justice league run feels a little dry to me despite liking the basis for it
@@iab77 That's pretty accurate to the way I also feel. I like his ideas, he seems like a Grant Morrison v2, however... sometimes it's just too much for me, and I sometimes felt like he didn't end his stories properly or idk...
Yaayyy I'm never up at the top. Just wanted to say I love you rob!!! You're the reason I started getting into comics. I love how you explain everything and how much enthusiasm you show. It's AMAZZZZING!!!!
Hell yeah we love you rob. Keep doing good work
What u forget when Thomas falls on the coffin and it turns out to be full of rocks because Bruce actually buried the body at night in middle of nowhere when thomas was sleeping.
He said that
Nothing against Tom King but I feel as if in order to make it to his 100 issue run he added too much fluff.
Thank fuck it's only up until #85.
He's only doing up to #85 now
Srent they continuing it with batman and catwoman? There was supposed to be a revelatory change at the end of his run for batman. Intrigued what it could have been.
@@rocfour Honestly, Based on his work. I'd say Bruce would have killed Bane.
I would want to see a Reverse DC Rebirth where Doctor Manhattan is in a good mood and decides to bring back good, happy and sane people from the past to save the multiverse.
1) That's the antithesis of Dr. Manhattan's character. 2) If you want that, you should be reading Justice League.
Rob what do you think if flashpoint Batman would show up in Batman who laughs to beat punisher Batman that would be epic
Amazing!
Omg genius
He isn’t Bruce so he is a wild card!
It is a good idea but it has been established that punisher Batman is by far the most skilled Batman so I don’t think he’d be able to put up
@@DatboiDabs you got a point he probably go down but it could be a epic fight and even one of those moments where you feel like can anyone take him down , I'd be excited to see flash point bats rolled into the batman who laughs story arc it could bring some interesting dynamic, so many questions could come out, he might even team up with Batman who laughs.
Maxie Zeus also appeared in “I am Bane” storyline in the very beginning of King’s run
A bit of a throwback there 👀
thank you rob for covering this series
They way Bruce beat the shit out of Jason, this fight should of been quick. I'm just saying that fight was over"quick fast and in a hurry" in Robs voice.
why can’t tom king just be straightforward with his writing? I just feel like I have to decipher what he’s talking about in comics like mister miracle
timmy pang the main difference between his MM n Batman runs is that Mister Miracle was actually good though.
oh my god, I say the exact same thing. It's just sooooo vague!!!
@@vehsirktaylb1337 To be fair his earlier Batman was good
How dare a comic book author assume that the reader is smart enough to wrap their brains around complexity. He should dumb things down like the Vertigo writers did. /sarcasm
Anthony Robles lol, so writers who write straightforward have dumbed it down??? I guess Geoff Johns has dumbed down most of DC’s best stories then🤷🏾♂️
Anyone else notice how Thomas Wayne looks like Ben Affleck batman from bvs knightmare scene
Yeah that design keeps showing up everytime batman goes into a desert. It was like that in the new 52 with cat woman and batman traveling to see taliah
Great job Rob, thank you for the breakdown!!! I needed it lol. One more thing, stop doing cliffhanger, your killing me man Hahah.
Batman cant be human how fast he bounces back from getting his back broken.
Rob, you're a sadistic bastard... That laugh at the end of cliffhangers kinda proves it. Me coming back for more, proves I'm a masochist...
This story was such a mess and kinda ruined the whole Thomas letter moment as well.
Really makes those rumors about "The Button" start to make sense, huh?
@@Just_Some_Guy_with_a_Mustache what were the rumors about
@@shiningnight12 The Button was co-written by Joshua Williamson (Flash writer) and Tom King. But, because it was The Button and had to deal with Rebirth and the Watchmen, it had to go over Geoff Johns' desk, first. Apparently, Geoff liked the Flash bits and edited them here and there. But, he rewrote most of the Batman parts.
@@Just_Some_Guy_with_a_Mustache Yikes. Not gonna lie though that makes sense. Especially since Johns was the architect for flashpoint batman, rebirth, doomsday clock, and most of current history for barry allen before Williamson's Year One.
Just Some Guy with a Mustache Eyy mustache man. Do you know the guy with no mustache?
Keep up the good work bro love you all the way from kuwait i will always support you bro been here since 2014 and i will always be here til the end of the line
"That Clif hanger though" that was punny
It sounds like Mysterio has been awfully busy in "the Multiverse" !
Oh my god. Joel called it. King just made Bane go full Aizen/Kira "keikaku doori". Basically, IT WAS ME, BANE!
"Oh, sonuvabitch!"
IT WAS ME, BANE! IT WAS ME ALL ALONG! BANE!
JoJo Reference?
Also, Tom King has been a chore to read
I feel like you've seen every video on UA-cam.
@@lanihawj eh. You caught me. Still, King has made some questionable story choices
They pulled a marvel comics with that one lol
@@RoxDZoro at least they're not letting personal politics get in the way
Not another cliff hanger! Damn you DC Comics!
I was wondering what would break first... your spirit.. OR YOUR BODY
Keep it going bro, seriously love your channel keeping all of us up to date
Another great video, thanks dude!
One of my biggest disappointments from the CW TV Flash went about Flashpoint... And GodSpeed
But you have to love the costum design for Zoom and how savage he is. Killing everyone in Gitterz then picking up the camera had me dying xD
This was epic! Never thought I’d see this and was hoping I would
Judging by the glove and Batman’s plot armour I am going to estimate Bruce survived
I saw the title and I was like....
Alright
@Bret Zayger_Michigan Yeah pretty much
Serious house is some serious stuff. Probably my favorite in terms of how beautifully it's drawn and colored
Anybody who knows anything about bane KNOW'S why bane has his name. His purpose WAS to be the 'bane' of batman. I'm SO GLAD they've brought Bane back in a big way in the comics. This is a fucking amazing story!
Lmao so today I found out my brothers been watching your channel just like I have we never talked about it either
Plz do marquis of death vs chaos king
It wasn’t Thomas Wayne it was Bruce that put the red bulb in that’s why he meets the bat family after
Rob sometimes overthinks what he’s reading and misses the obvious points
Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on A Serious Earth was so amazing it got me into Batman and making collages. That art style just melts into your subconscious.
Rob you are my witness, if DC doesn't make a story about batman and superman's father teaming with their grandchildren, I will launch a riot!!!
Damn you and your cliffhangers! Cool story though. 👍
Bruce is cool and all, but goddammit, I love me some Thomas Wayne
That Cliffhanger was MEAN!! Thanks a lot, Rob
I like how Thomas Wayne Batman looks like Batfleck. Also I wonder what if Thomas Wayne meets the BWL, Dark Knights and Batman? What if he gets involved in the Metal series?
I stopped reading King's run around Knightmares, then picked it up again with this Fall and the Fallen storyline. I was so exciting a few weeks ago when I read the plan to bring Martha back, be a family and shit. I thought it'd be an interesting and completely bonkers story at least. Then this issue happened.
Damn it King. Lesson learned: don't get excited over King's stories. They can literally go either way.
At least this arc is almost over, King's Run has been so lackluster.
Serious House on Arkham was Grant Morrison.
Imagine your parents die and you decide to fight crime as a bat. And then find out in another scenario/universe your dad does the same thing also dressed as a bat.
i can dig that. me and my dad share a lot in common
Amazing Rob!
Whose idea was it to make Thomas Wayne and Jor El evil
I just realized that both fathers of the 2 most oconic heroes are back alive.
@@Babycam08 yeah. And went full Darth Vader
Didiot
@@mikaelsvensson345 good answer. Of course the edgelord wannabe would be behind it
Goodness you must of been really excited during this vid, you were speaking so fast I had to keep back tracking
2:06 Arkham Asylum a Serious House on Serious Earth is one of the craziest books I've ever read in my life like as soon as I saw the cover I was all "WHOA!!" that it's cool and yea it was mainly from Dave McKean's Art
What happens in the story?
RetroAlchemist18 2000 it's basically the same premise like the video game Arkham Asylum and it explores the history of Amadeus Arkham about his mother his family and bunch of other crazy shit you just gotta read it for yourself to see how insane it is
@@AlejandroGonzalez-gh1to I'll have to read it for myself, because that sounds very interesting
RetroAlchemist18 2000 oh yea you definitely should it's a pretty good read if you can get used to the insanity of the art lol but it's still great I definitely recommend it
Arkham Asylum is Serious House, a very great read. It's essentially Batman's own killing joke, in which it explores his sanity.
Rob. Please cover Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth. You've mentioned it so many times and I am very intrigued.
Batman knows how to handle the fear toxin a few times now...
The problem with Thomas Wayne being in City of Bane is that it ruins that emotional moment in The Button where Thomas and Bruce see each other and feel proud.
Plus this is now what Bruce is going to think of his father, ruining his legacy.
And o get Thomas not wanting to Bruce to be Batman (he said so in The abutting) but driving his own son insane? That just doesn’t make sense for the character
It's kind of crazy how Thomas Wayne is almost more popular than Batman
naaa
reversal thought: bane-tham city. baneman. bane family. thomas bane. city of batman.
Good call back to I AM Suicide and I AM Bane. And Arkham a Serious House.
the current batman is stuff under the new to playlist right? I had red the new to stuff a while ago and was looking for more current stuff but couldn't find it without scrolling. I see its there too but maybe change the title or make a separate playlist for specific story arcs over just general stuff for incomers. it was a bit confusing.
I think I'm finally up to date.. I've listened to every single episode over the past few months whilst working or playing ps4, my missus hates you for it but I've had a whale of a time😁
Hey rob. It would be super dope to see you cover more of the invincible line of comics.
Amazing details Wicked Rob
Serious House is freaking amazing its hard to wrap your head around everything if you don't take your time with it, but I 100% think anyone who loves the Batman relationship with Joker you should read it.
Serious House has Joker dressed as Madonna, that's all you need to know.
Did anyone else notice that thomas wayne bats looks like ben affleck darkseid dream and maybe tom wanted to punch him in the face. And so we ended up with that panel lol
Hey Rob, when are you doing Martha Wayne Batman? I love flashpoint batman.
You totally should dude!!! 13:40 on the video lol
We don’t know who’s hand, but the end of the comic of a preview of a batman superman team up. That preview is pretty big hint to who won~
When he said Bruce Wayne Batman is endless hope vs his father Thomas Wayne Batman is jaded, it tore my heart
Awesome vid. Thank you
After reading Earth 2 and Convergence and ALL the Convergence tie-ins, I'm fairly confident that the Flashpoint timeline should no longer exist. Was there another Crisis?
I thought Dr Manhattan kept the flashpoint universe alive?
@@portus3395 Completely forgot about God Manhattan
The serious house on serious earth is hyper realism on acid trying to explain the psychosis of a murderer and a hero
A Serious House on Serious Earth is AMAZING! Great Batman book.
Seeing Grundy and amygdala reminded me, what ever happened to Damage (DC Hulk)? And as I typed that, what happened to those other DC "version of" characters from rebirth? Like the teleporting Spiderman clone who's name I can't remember. It's be cool to see something new about those guys. Edit: Sideways! That was his name.
He's not just a huge part of this one he's a huge part of different ones as well
Coffin Martha was totally Non-Flashpoint Martha. It makes more sense for Dark Thomas' character for him to come to this timeline and try to replace the family he lost with their counterparts. He claims to want to save his son from the burden of Batman, and in some small way that's true, but his primary motivation is the selfish desire to get his family back.
7:55 that reminds me of the batman slapping robin meme
i don't think you covered flashpoint batman series.
I feel like I'm the only person enjoying the entirety of Tom King's run. Everyone tends to like most of the stuff that happened before issue #50 but start to lose interest afterwards. Which makes sense because that's when things go off the rails for poor ol' Batman. Though the Mr Freeze courtroom story was great. Yes, the Knightmare stuff was too drawn out, but I just treated most of them as acid trips (which they essentially were) and I found myself enjoying them that way.
A lot of people think Thomas Wayne's motives are screwy and make no sense, but that's sort of the point. This version of Thomas Wayne is a complete nutter, and what makes perfect sense to him would be completely insane to a normal person.
I do hope City of Bane pans out though. It would be a shame if all of the build up was for nothing. Yes King's being kicked off before he hits #100, but he's still getting to wrap up his long arc with a 12 issue miniseries afterward. Which I'm kind of pleased about, as I really want to know how he's going to get this craziness to end.
It's an incredible story, love the post-apocalyptic story of flash point where the justice league never forms. Wonder Woman and Aquaman are at war and Superman is hidden kept away from sunlight.
Bruce Wayne dying and his parent's survived but the trauma drove Martha crazy.
Arkham Asylum is amazing! All Grant-Morrisoned Batman with madness inducing magic in an asylum will be gorgeous even without Batman and villains, with them is like insanity within magic within fantasy! And the art is super creepy and amazing!
Dude the Arkham Asylum kept me up the night I read it...it’s such a goood story, and that art work is crazy...not trying to spoil the story but there’s a panel about a little girl that will rattle you to your core...READ THAT STORY!!!
You should cover a serious house on serious earth!
All the way off topic, but can you do a "Marvels" Easter egg breakdown. Basically discussing the events that are in the book.
16:15 why is bruce batman doing a stomach vacuum lol
Lmfao
Please do a one shot video for Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth
I was literally watching this video and half of the time i was just thinking, rob, what the fuck are you saying?
I would go into the naine pits to trade anything for the resolution of that cliffhanger
You are so wrong for that Robert Jefferson... Haha ha Haha ha Haha ha Ha.
That cliffhanger is crazy !!
That is Thomas' hand (imho). The arm appears to be sleeved and Bruce is topless in the skirmish.
3:55 can we please address the critical design flaw that is scarecrow’s necktie? seriously one tug of the wrist and it’s all over for him
When batman who laughs 6 and 7 come out could you please do a video on them?
two face is an allegory for the court room it means that harvey dent is both the defense attorney and prosecutor at the same time
Its kinda crazy this guy got 1.7 mil subscribers on UA-cam but only 900 followers on Twitter
Not everyone that UA-cams has a Twitter.
Many simple reasons tbh. Don't hurt your weary little head noobtube 😜
It's probably Bruce, but dressed as Thomas' Batman. Then Tom King can write his brand of confusing stories, so that it will be revealed as a twist that Bruce did it to fool Bane.
Sorry Rob, after seeing Spiderman your cliffhangers are weak
Alpha Flight video Rob, ALPHA FLIGHT!
why isn’t batman like a monk? a level 20 dnd monk? by now he should be like powerful and at the heights! he should be able to beat bane with pure martial prowess
iOnRX9 Batman likely multiclassed, such as spent some level in Inquisitive Rouge for them Detective Skills
@@BlackRockRenegade Ya, but there is one flaw to that theory... HES FUCKING BATMAN!!!
@@BlackRockRenegade Batman is statblocked as
Level 10 Monk
Level 4 Brawler fighter
Level 6 Spy Rogue
With feats on environmental fighting, improved will and reflexes, crafting bonuses and sevwral fighting styles
This is pretty great
This is an amazing story!!!!
Who do you think would win in a fight: Flashpoint Batman or The Batman Who Laughs?
The Batman who laughs because hes more cunning and deadlier than flashpoint batman.
So my understanding currently is, Bruce would have stopped being batman, thanks to Selina, but to stop Bruce from being Batman, Thomas helps one of his bad guys convince Selina to leave so he can keep being batman, and kill any of the remaining family he had left, like shit, thanks dad wtf
I can't use Twitter, but I think Rob is cooler than a snowman eating an ice cream!
Those damn cliffhangers lol now I want to go read the next issue
