  • Adding a new 12 volt dual USB outlet to the helm of our boat. I wanted this plug so that we could charger both of our phones, as well as charge my camera batteries while under way. It also is equipped with a handy LED voltage meter to monitor the charge level of the boat's onboard house batteries.
    I found this item on Amazon.ca: www.amazon.ca/Charger-CHGeek-...

      Yes, definitely always something to do on the boat! I don't always film every single project, but do m,y best to get and share most of them with you.

    The next time you get the boat serviced I think it would be interesting to see what had been done! Love the video too!

      I generally do all the service/maintenance work on the boat myself and do try top film everything - except for boring oil changes ;-) That said, I do still have my impellers/water pumps to swap out this season, so I'll be sharing that project fro sure.

    That is pretty cool. We have a cigarette lighter but found a dual USB insert to plug into it, but it does not give me system voltage. I can get that off of my Garmin plotter. I do NOT however see the need for a cigarette lighter on the Here's to Us. So might take that on as a project, convert cigarette lighter into a sleek modern looking accessory like that tells you system voltage. Just wondering if there is a mini- inverter in the dual USB insert I have already. Or do you think there is DC power coming into my cigarette lighter that changes it to AC? Now thinking through this, I hesitate to make this change without further investigating it. Maybe the cigarette lighter is DC already? Just wondering here in Texas as I sit and dream about resuming the Loop!!

      Hi Sam, good to see you guys are safe at home in Texas, but I'm sure you are both eager to get back to the boat again soon.
      As for your cigarette lighter outlet, it's gonna be fed by a 12V, DC supply. A super easy way to confirm that would be to plug an accessory into it and shut off all the AC power on the boat. If it stay's 'lit', it's on battery power. Conversely, shut off all DC power and try it the same way.
      The unit I installed works perfectly for us, but I purposely left the the factory installed lighter outlet in place, as it provides a convenient power supply for numerous 12V appliances from min inverters to the air pump we use to inflate the grand kids floaty toys. Our smoking days are more than 20 years in the past, so a lighter isn't needed, but nice to have quick access to that power.
      If you follow the link in the description to the Amazon listing, it will provide more info on the USB charger, including a funky exploded view of the internal electronics for the device.
      Looking forward to your next videos:-) Cheers and stay safe you guys!

    Did you wire the charger to be ignition switched or through the house battery?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  4 роки тому +2

      Both the existing cigarette lighter outlet + new USB outlet are direct to house batteries.
