  • This week we had our normal routine of fixing fence and getting cows back where they needed to be. We ran cruzer on the heel o matic and he had a buyer come for him so he’s off to a new home. We also doctored some cows with hoof rot. It’s almost fall time and we couldn’t be more excited. Visit 1880drifters.com to buy you a good looking hat.

I like how your horses all started to wander off just about the time you finished doctoring the cow. That make everyone pay attention!

ha ha, that was a little embarrassing, we were hoping no one would notice.

That cow made me laugh when she finally got up. Just standing there looking around saying “what in the heck was that all about?”. Lol

One thing we started doing years ago, is we raise our replacement heifers in a hot wire fenced pasture. The cattle learn to respect fences, they learn that the fence will bite them and they do not forget it. The key is the fence has to be HOT and it will take some work to keep it hot but it is well worth the time and trouble for making cattle respectful of fences for a life time. Our fences are 3 wire smooth wire high tensile fences. The elk and deer wreck our barb wire fences but if the wire is still partially up the cattle will respect it. Enjoy you videos, thanks.

Hey! I’m a small fence contractor up in northern Utah, so I have slow winters. If you’d hire a hand on for fencing, I’d be happy to come and work on fence for a few weeks once I slow down. I’m cheap, cause I like to work & see big ranches! Can send references and work photos.

Solar electric fencing should deter them escaping

I don’t k ow what you’re going to do with these cows, they are fencers now, only way you’ll stop them is with a hot wire, maybe with a solar powered controller
