I’m getting heavy nostalgia right now thinking about my time being an infantry Marine. We’d put a thin string tied off through our protractor and use that to get your azimuth and range estimation. Also would use a torn up page from your rite in the rain notebook to line things up in conjunction with the string. Marking the target on the map with your sharpie with a dot as smalllll as possible with the tip would get you pretty much spot on.
been a patient man for years with years of dayz experience and happy to drive supplies on Arma I love vanilla rust and dayz I love the grind but watching this has made me feel young and impatient again. Thank you very much
The audio of this took me back. The way the fins slide down the tube are perfect. The incoming rounds sounded way too good. You overcorrected the first couple but your last adjust was great
Nicely done! If I may, I would suggest using custom markers to write down the final solution, that may prove being useful, as mortars in AR have an actual recoil, that will cause them to drift a little bit each time they are fired, and for that very reason Ai will readjust the mortar (iirc) every 5 shots. Additionally, when it comes to height difference between mortar and target there is a tool on the map which displays apeoximated height above see level (iirc value is rounded up to 5m to mimic reading of those values using lines on the map). Calculation of the solution for the height difference is quite simple as all that needs to be done is, to add to the range half of the height difference. Knowing that you can see that elevation delta given in "d elev per 100m dr" in combination with base elevation gives you the solution for that base range plus 50m.
I would love to see a video demonstrating everything you just said. I'm not that guy, but it sure would help people like me who learn from seeing it done in person and explained while being shown how to do it properly. Thank you very much for your feedback, it's truly appreciated!
personally (i do mortars in squad) I would've found the length of a grid square, used my fingers to measure how many grid squares it is up/down and left/right of the mortar, then basically done the pythagorean theorem and gotten the heading (most difficult part for me,) which is usually accurate to a T. That being said, the targets are more usually larger (think squads or buildings,) so it I guess is much easier. Good job!
I didnt think it would be this detailed. I figured more of an arcade style with some real elements. This is awesome. Edit: i see all of the vets and still wonder why us c2 got not love from arma lol.
