    In 2026 the monorail is set to be decommissioned to make room for the new stadium for the athletics. There should be a plan to save the monorail and integrate it into line 1 of a new automated metro system for the city that would run from Centennial Hills to the South Point via downtown, the existing monorail alignment on the strip, the airport, and the Brightline station. The new line would have three stations in the free travel zone which would serve the airport’s terminals and the rental car center. The rolling stock on this line would be a modified version of the Siemens S200. The city cannot afford to lose a transit icon it currently has.

      Wow, let’s hope it gets built. An extension to the airport would be very useful.

      I don't think that's true. The proposed baseball stadium would be built on the current property of the Tropicana. The Monorail doesn't go that far. It ends before it gets to the Tropicana.
      And, the Monorail could be very useful as a way to serve the new stadium considering its current terminus across from the Tropicana.
      The building of the new stadium could serve as a catalyst for expanding the much talked about connection to the airport and downtown.

    I always travel on the monorail each trip. It isn’t really viable as a transportation system unless you are staying at or travelling to Sahara or Westgate, or attending the Convention Centre. Extensions to the airport and Downtown would make it more viable as a transit system.

    Watched the whole thing. Kinda enjoyed looking at the empty parking lots and full employee parking garages. Kinda depressing. If I ever ride I'm gonna stay on after last stop to see what happens. I mean....who's there to throw me off ?

    Before I left Sinless City in 2018, I was attending the meetings of RTC for the proposed first light rail line from the Airport to DT and UMC via Maryland. They were so hopeful it was going to be built, but it never happened. Why Maryland and not down the Strip? Why? Because the Feds will pay up to half of it providing its use is for residents and not tourists. At any rate, put in a light rail line and development will occur along the line. It's happened in every city with light rail. If built, they could have built housing at DI and Maryland and near the campus. Las Vegans love the city because it's so 1960's, car centricism. I'm sure many tourists who arrive in Sinless City have a puzzled look on their face when they find there's no train waiting for them at the Airport, like so many other cities today. Even here in Tucson, we have a light rail line from the Campus to DT and to Menlo Park and the buses and light rail is free to ride. Why do they call Tucson, the Blue Island of the Southwest? We have true blue Democrats in Tucson and only DINO's in Mormon influenced Las Vegas!

      Yes! I was happy to leave Vegas after only 4 hours, too many cars. I really liked the Tucson streetcar, it’s a nice little line and gets the job done for what it needs to be. The current form of Las Vegas is kind of a tragedy, I couldn’t imagine being a tourist without a car there (and that should never be said about a city its size).

    Haha. Ya'll make me laugh. I love the monorail for several reasons. Yes it is $6 for 1-ride but you can get a 24 hour pass for $14. Or,
    2-Day Pass = $24
    3-Day Pass = $30
    4-Day Pass = $37
    5-Day Pass = $45
    7-Day Pass = $58
    I love that I can avoid waiting for ride share or the (still) predatory taxis. Especially when there is a big event in town or construction and traffic is a pain. Last time I was there F1 was starting a few days after I was leaving and traffic was crazy. I wanted to go from the Paris to Resorts World and back for a show. I hoped the monorail to Westgate and got a taxi to \Resots World. Only going 2 blocks so no way to "detour" and charge mor money. Cost me about $10 with tip. After the show my friend convinced me to take a taxi back (it was an hour wait for ride share). Becsause of traffic it cost us almost $60 and sat in traffic for 40+ minutes. to go Downtown I catch the monorail to sahara then either a taxi or ride share from there. And as the night goes on I want to walk less and less.

      Las Vegas is too expensive in general for my cheap ass but yes it would be useful in those cases, anything over a bloody car.

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 3 місяці тому

      Those prices are too high. It's stupid because you'll get more people if those prices were cut in half. You still need to run the monorail so why not have 10 people in a car instead of 1 or 2? You'd make more revenue with the lower rate and your cost overhead basically remains the same.

    Rode that Thing at Night in 2005 from the Hilton, now Westgate, all the way to MGM Grand and back to the Hilton, nobody in the car but me myself and I, then went to Hilton Sports Book Deli and had a Italian hot Sub.

      Biggest W you can get in Vegas!

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 5 місяців тому +3

      The main issue is the price. It's ridiculous. $6 for a one-way ride with a max distance of 4 miles? No wonder people don't use it, especially locals.
      By comparison on the LA Metro, there is a daily capped fare of $5 per day. It's $1.75 per one-way ride. Once you reach $5, all additional rides are free for the rest of the day, including buses, light rail, and subways. On a rail system that's around 110 miles long with 101 stations and 117 bus routes.
      The Vegas Monorail should have a $6 fare for a 24-hour period. They could increase ridership drastically, especially with tourists who like to visit different casinos on the strip.

  • @mrxman581
    @mrxman581 5 місяців тому

    It could be a very useful way for tourists to visit different casinos on the strip instead of walking. The hotels can be very far apart, and the sidewalks can get very crowded as well as Las Vegas Blvd with cars.
    The problem is the price. If the price was $6 for a 24 hour period, many more people would be using it, especially tourists.

    • @msptransit
      @msptransit  5 місяців тому

      Exactly! If they were able to extend it to the airport it would also be very useful.

    • @pchaynes
      @pchaynes 5 місяців тому

      I don't see the price as a problem but what I do see as a problem is the distance most of the stops are from the casinos. It is a ridiculous walk through parking garages or casinos to get to where you need to go, other than Westgate, which drops you right next to the casino. Harrah's is fairly close but the MGM Grand is a long enough walk that it really puts me off. I do enough walking while in Las Vegas without adding even more walking from monorail stops, and the older I get the less inclined I am to go hiking. In the plus column it is a great way to take a load off and get an overview of Las Vegas for a very modest price.

      back in 2000 it was free but it only go from MGM to Balley and they operated the old Mark 4 monorail from Walt Disney World.

    • @mrxman581

      @@Perich29That's a different system.

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 3 місяці тому

      @pchaynes No, it's the price. $6 is way too much. On the LA Metro, you can go from DTLA to Santa Monica for $1.75.
      The stations are behind the casinos, but for tourists that is probably a convenient way to see several casinos without having to walk down the street.
      BTW, LA Metro also has a capped fare system. Once you spend $5, the rest of the rides are free for the day whether you use the Metro or buses.
      Again, if it was a $6 a day pass for 24 hours a lot more people would use it.
