Thanks very much indeed, Tony! A temporary fix as you say … but this just helped me get my bus up and running again while I wait for a new piston kit and pads.

Broken G-clamp on the floor shows what a mission it was 😅

removed my pads today and discovered the disc is hard to spin piston moved in ok im now thinking maybe its wheel bearing would this make it hard for the disc to spin

Yes, it could be. you should hear a grating noise too, though.
Another possibility is the CV joint. Which is common when people have bigger wheels on than standard. I originally had 20" wheels but took them off for slightly smaller and lighter ones.

@@TonysGarage_UK thanks for taking the time to reply , not hearing much noise coming from the bearing my van is a dsg tho in nutural with handbrake off , are the autos harder to rotate , would it be best to fit the new caliper and pads and go for a drive or would having a bad bearing cause damage to the new caliper and pads

No experience of the DSG I'm afraid. A bad bearing wont damage the brakes short term, so you could try that.
Was your wheel getting hot? Binding brakes builds up a lot of heat and I found my wheel got red hot to touch when mine had stuck on.
