this is literally the thing i hate. they want YOU to give a notice, but will get rid of you with no warning
The way it's SUPPOSED to work (when it's a professional courtesy) is that you are paid out for those two weeks regardless of whether they use that time or not. When they let you go you get minimum 2 weeks and preferably full severance. When you give 2 weeks notice they pay out those two weeks.
Problem is, that's a social contract, not a legal one in most cases. An many companies are MORE than willing to screw you.
I can say that MOST of my employers when they've let me go have paid out minimum 2 weeks. This is in tech. But there are a few that wouldn't as a matter of policy.
In those cases you absolutely should not give 2w notice.

@Johnadams20760 which is a good reason to not reciprocate. Profesional courtesy has to go both ways. She's lucky Veronica gave her a resignation letter. She could have just GHOSTED the job

Had this exact conversation at my last job. My boss said that without a two week notice I wouldn’t be eligible for a rehire. I told her that if I had gotten to the point where I wanted to resign why would I ever desire to come back? The last few people who left had submitted two week notices and they were told to pack up and leave immediately, why give them the satisfaction?
As a business owner, I generally try to make two weeks effective immediately. It's just to protect my company. I do compensate the employee for the wages they would have earned during the notice. I do not tolerate poor employees so I don't have poor employees giving me two notice. That means all the employees that do give me two week notice, I would prefer to keep. I want their last interaction with my company to be good in case they would consider coming back in the future. It's a lot more financially beneficial to rehire a good employee that thought the grass was greener on the other side than it is to hire and train a new employee you have no history with. I have about a 25% return rate after 6 months and about 40% overall for employees that gave me 2 weeks. I'm sure there's a good percentage of employees that gave me a 2-week notice that I paid out that had no intention of ever returning because they were unhappy with my business but they knew if they gave it two week notice they got paid for those two weeks. They were just taking advantage of the situation but they would have walked out from most other companies. They knew when they gave me the two-week notice it was their last day they just wanted that money. It's still worth it to me though. The employees I did recapture have all performed excellently for me.
@cc-tb3st Do you conduct an exit interviews? If so, have you been able to uncover what your company could've done to retain the good talent you mentioned? ( The talent you said returned within 6 months )
@@cc-tb3st did you forget people generally only have jobs for the money? if someone is wanting to quit, the higher % of the time is because they found a better job or they are at whits end with dealing with bs... which leads to why don't you as a boss take better care of your employees? i've been at my job for 17 years and currently HATE the new manager and something keeps ringing in my head.... "good employees quit bad managers, not good jobs"

I agree with Veronica. I never go back to an old employer, regardless of rehire status.
Come to think of it I always have a two week but never went back.
Me neither
If a potential new employer confirms your previous employment, they can ask if you are "eligible for rehire." A no, often means you were fired or did not give notice when you left. If the option is available and you want to get out of your job immediately, burning off unused PTO or sick days still gives them notice, technically, but you are not actually working.
@@sugarhigh55 it doesn’t work that way in the small industry I work in.
I actually went to an interview at a company I liked working at but had left before, just different office. Beginning of the interview I clued in that it was a position more like my previous but I had experience and better pay, they were switching jobs in interview. I asked what happened to the job I came to interview for. And they said previous boss said how great I was, they should hire me. What? So then why switch job offer? They said seeing as I was proven good at previous position, they wanted me to "prove" myself. I got up and she was shocked. 😅 like why are you walking out?

Veronica is out here educating the masses of their rights. Thank you, my daughter plans on doing exactly how Veronica quit her job. They treat her like crap and she’s the best employee they have. She never takes off and asked for one day off. However, everyone else takes off without a problem. I told her because they know you’re a good worker.
Unfortunately the good hard working folks get taken advantage of; not just by mgt but also by coworkers.😢 You really do have to leave to get significant raises. I always left on good terms though. I never wanted to be classified as “ineligible for rehire”. Sometimes it does matter!
Do not cry tomorrow when your daughter cannot find any competent job. I advise you to teach her discipline and she will go far in life. I have seen so many homeless people in the street and I thin k I know why. Whatever you do follows you to the next step.
The best employees usually get treated not so good, because they are soooooo underestimated.
Not only that, they are the ones who do a great amount of work, never take off, most unbothered, overlooked, and just taken for granted.
Sure the company does go on without them, but it will not run the same.
Employees like your daughter are a rare find.
Her work ethic is unmatched by anyone else that works there.

On her next job I pray she speaks up for herself, knows her worth, and for the love of God take vacations!!!!!!!!
Not taking what she worked hard for is very not good.

They're taking her kindness and altruistic values not only for granted. But mistaking them for weakness or stupidity. Good for your daughter, for leaving. It's extremely frustrating and a situation like that, because you don't want to change who you are at the same time you don't want people taking advantage of who you are. I always hated that double standard, employers want a two week notice, but if they decide to fire you , you’ll get asked to go to HR an hour before your shift ends on a Friday , and someone is putting your stuff in a box while your being told that today was your last day.

I had a very similar conversation when leaving a job about 14 years ago. My manager posted schedules ~1-3 days before they started, and just posted a week at a time. The company policy was that schedules be posted 3 weeks at a time, 3 weeks in advance. I frequently had to change plans, and never made it to family gatherings. My fiance and then wife would go in my place. One Friday I was scheduled off, but got called in to close the store. I asked who else they had tried first, and they told me no one, because all the other assistant managers had requested it off. So I changed plans once again, missed a date night, and walked in with my letter of resignation, effective in 3 days. When the manager complained, I told her, “I’m giving you the courtesy of the maximum number of days you give any of us.”
She gave me the same spiel about not being rehireable, and it has not hurt me one bit.
Good for you
In my case, I took it a step further. My store was frigging slaving us after the new boss, he had to show off. Treaded us like dirt. So, I took all of my paid vacation days, including sick days. When I returned. 2 days after I got paid. I quit the job. Boss man was scalding lava. lol. That's what happens when you tread employees like shit.
Treating employees like shit leaves to constant hiring new employees with no skill and retraining. Love the employees you have and they will help you back.
I had similar problems with scheduling in one of my first jobs. I never canceled my plans. I just told them that due to them violating their own policies there was a scheduling conflict, and I wouldn’t be in. Always emailed it to my manager. She said if I valued my employment there I would have to figure out how to work with her way of scheduling. I told her if she values her employment there she should consider the lengthy email chain of me complaining about her violations of corporate policy and her responses telling me basically to just suck it up and deal with it. She never did get me to comply. Eventually I found a better job and just stopped showing up.
Well fair is fair. Some folk will see how far they can get over on you (especially if the job/position is regular smegular). Their approach and thinking often times is, “this person doesn’t know better and likely needs this job (especially if you’re efficient and execute your tasks as needed). I remember a manager having the nerve to send me an email saying that he was giving me a first warning about something (I forget). Meanwhile this guy (after I requested an additional day off one particular week, he completely ignored my request and scheduled me to come in on my day off. I was already working 5:days a week (15 -17 hour days and it began to take its toll. Someone did tell me that asking him for day offs would lead to him doing the likes, but I didn’t take all that he was telling me serious. The minute he sent me that email that he was giving me a first time warning. I responded with my resignation. He had the nerve to respond to me quitting and said, “I thought you would never quit.” I just rolled my eyes with disgust because I’m sure that he was the type that felt I was there to impress him/them, whoever. Lil boy bye! There’s nothing worse than working with or amongst petty individuals that aim to play mind games, use people and or give people a hard time.
A two-week notice is a courtesy from the past. Employees don't have to do that anymore, and they never had to. It was something the companies wanted. It only benefits the company, not the employee. When an employee decides to leave, they don't plan to return, especially if the company treats its employees disrespectfully and the pay is not right. Most of the time, the employee is leaving for higher pay and better benefits. I understand this fully, and I work in management in Corporate America. I always remembered my roots and treated every employee with respect.

She was just mad I found another job so soon XD Then she decided during my last week, they were going to promote a current worker to my position and told me I had to train her. I didn't. I apologized to the girl who was taking my place, but I told her my story, gave her a very basic overview, helped her move her stuff into her new office, and told her that any questions and training needed moving forward she would have to get in touch with her new supervisor. I also gave a heads up to the managers I worked with what was going on so they could steel themselves for the inevitable fallout.

This just happened to a buddy of mine yesterday.
I do that to every person that turns in a 2 weeks notice unless they been in the company a long time and don't just hop jobs every 2-3 years. If less than 3 years they are out that day.
@@outdoorsnevada4138 Disgusting
@@outdoorsnevada4138 What's the purpose of the two-week notice, then?
My company will walk you out the door immediately after handing in a two week notice.
It should be the law that, aside from gross negligence or criminal behavior, all employees should be given 2 weeks notice.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander...
They can fire you anytime during said two week notice.
When someone turns in a 2 weeks I let them fo that day. It is not being fired... it is just accepting the resignation and not requiring them to keep coming in for 2 weeks.
Exactly! A lot of people don’t know this
My coworker/ friend did exactly this and they let her go immediately. Then they were surprised when I quit effective immediately to start my new job. It's at will... for both employer AND employee
If you give 2 weeks notice, they can let you go but still have to pay for the time. Otherwise, it's considered retaliation
No they can't. They can pay out the two weeks and tell you not to come in but they can't fire you after you have already quit.
I've always given a two week notice because I almost always get essentially two weeks of free pay. No employers wants a disgruntled employee that has already quit to have access to their systems and files. Or to have whatever small filter removed and riling up the other employees with impunity.
The one time they wanted me to stay, I just scheduled all my medical appointments so I wouldn't have to ask for time off at my new job.
Granted, this is an office job. No idea if that is true in other types of jobs.
Once I was working on company as probation employee, once my probation period was about to end I get sign contract emmediately, and the manager congratulated me for that because other were not get contract so soon. Then After I sign the contract after two weeks I get another better Job, I go to the manager and told him that, he told me to resign immediately so that I may not risk my self( my job was kind risky) while I have better job ahead. He helped me to write the resignation letter and helped me to get the salary without any cut. And he told me you are welcomed here anytime even if you need to come back here, this is your home. I still remember that Guy and I visit him in the office from time to time.
Not all jobs are bad. Not all managers are bad. But all of Veronica's are.
Now that is a wonderful boss!
Veronika is a savage not bringing up the fact they fired Amy last week without notice .
You know this isn't real? It's a skit.
@@TheMarlinlask lol
Veronica was calm,relax,and on point.....👍😊
I gave my last job 45 days notice… the earliest my replacement could be brought in was a month after I left. Good luck training him on a shift where no one else is around.
😂I love Veronica she does not put up with the BS😂😂😂
💪😎
Facts on the double standard letting an employee, Amy, go immediately but wanting a two week notice for Veronica.
This series is hysterical. If you have ever worked in an office you can relate to the these experiences. Well done.
I LOVE HOW THEY EXPECT YOU TO CARE, WHEN THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL !

"I'm gonna have to ask you for two weeks' notice."
"Okay, go ahead."
Wow that is such a good point. When someone gets fired, they never give two weeks.
I wish Americans knew how crazy that sounds to us Europeans. I am Belgian and firing someone with immediate effect is only done rarely and only when it's unavoidable and the person gets a sum of money and then right away a monthly government paycheck (but maybe not when you were fired for company theft or something).
The way you guys are forced to live when it comes to basic rights such as employee rights, healthcare, schooling etc, it's appalling, truly. I don't even want to start on the opioid crisis, it's insane.
I'm no expert but for sure you guys need a good dash of socialism (which is totally not the same as communism) to make life livable.
Employers don't typically give advance notice of a firing, but the good ones will include a generous severance package.
@@SightOfTrees Lol yeah, you can really fire someone with immidiate effect if you see them murder a customer in cold blood with a key board while screaming nazi themed sentences.
@@SightOfTrees I heard it was different in other countries. America treats employees like trash.
The two times I got fired I got two weeks pay though, and that to me was better than a notice.
As an Orlando native, the fact there was an “OBT” reference had me dying 😂

Lmao...agree 1000%
That's a great way to get a bad reputation, and in many places, employers will take reputation into account when hiring... your like or dislike of a job notwithstanding
@@kasumimori1798 I guess it’s a good thing I live in a state like Washington where if you find out that your job has been disparaging you you can actually sue them.
I just don’t even let them know😂 I just stop showing up.
No employer I've ever worked for uses that 2 weeks to hire a replacement.
Exactly! At my job #2 a former co-worker gave 2 weeks notice and her last day was in the middle of April. The replacement doesn't start until June 19.
We are currently in a worker shortage tbf. Regardless that has not been my experience depending on the specialty of the field that two weeks can be used to hire someone or to bring in someone from a different job title within the company to work.
Every job I've given 2 weeks notice lets me off THAT DAY and I miss a paycheck. 😂❤ nah boo you lucky to get a week.
shadowsapphire I agree, most employers I've worked for don't know how to complete a hiring process that quickly; if a non management worker resigns they often spend the next 3 or so months finding a replacement. But that happens partly because they know it doesn't disrupt their business all that much to operate that way.
Lmao, ‘I would rather sell my ass on OBT’ have ya’ll ever been on OBT?! no wonder she quit effective immediately! 😂
If she's on Orange blossom trail selling that she's going to be making a lot of money

What these businesses and some of their ass kissing employees have is all the damn audacity. They will treat you any way but if you treat them with no regard they want you to give them courtesy. I think the hell not!
Yeah double standard I suppose it is ridiculous employers treat their employees like garbage and they wonder why keep people employed in their business
Dont turn up for work
Get a medical certificate for the notice period, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks
Send it in via email
Send a resignation email the next day
You don't have to give a reason
You don't have to talk to them
Problems solved.
Some employers dont deserve anything more.
Screw the "dont burn bridges " concept when they could say absolutely anything in your reference. I mean if the place is that nasty and you don't give AF
THEEEE nerve! Also, you cannot rely on a fair reference/performance review... they just never have adhered to that.
We have on person that just put a post-it that said I quit on our manager desk, and left at the end of the day.
AT WILL EMPLOYMENT
Meaning: the employee or employer can terminate the employee at will. Employees can quit without warning and employer can lay off or fire without warning.
