She's actually amazing as well. She can play an obscene amount of instruments and is perfectly in tune with Ben. He puts so much passion into each lyric. The look ben gives India when she starts in a verse early (3:40) is classic!!
I agree! When I read this, I initially thought you meant that he needs his music itself to be alive; for it to move, breathe and speak (for itself). Which is also true!
Oh I love this... look at 3:38. Backup vocals come in early. Ben looks over to her and smiles, she recognizes her mistake and smiles back. No drama, no interruption, still sounds incredible. Probably not even noticeable to anyone there. Just a nice moment between two amazing musicians playing a sensational live performance. These things happen and it's so cool to see it handled this beautifully live.
Great observation. I love these onstage dynamics and moments between band members - the behind-the-scenes in the scene. The way they shrug it off is very telling of the good vibes prevalent between Ben and his band members onstage. As a musician and audience member, this is what I live for next to the music, itself.
This is what flow state looks like. The way Ben can be so immersed in his songs and yet still be present to the moment. It truly is a beautiful sight to behold.
It's March 2021, I've been listening to this for over 10 years now and it never ever gets old! The skill this man holds in his fingers is extraordinary, couple that with his other worldly voice and you have the most goosebump enduring atrist in history. Ed sheeran hadn't a patch on Ben!
+willknoval why shouldnt she be bashed? yout hink of how many amazing artists have fell into obscurity because "celebrities" like the aforementioned are clogging up the airwaves.
This man's music has got me through more then anyone could ever know, to sit and listen to him in good and bad times will make us all appreciate something I promise 💯
When I was about five or six, maybe older, my father used to take me to this cafe where there was people playing different kind of string instruments (cello, double bass, violin). He says I used to just sit there eating a cake and get lost in the music, that I had a look of wonder on my face. I get that feeling seeing Ben Howard play now as I did when I was in that cafe aged 5 or 6, I just get enchanted by the music and it is a lovely feeling.
Shows how stripped down, heart felt, lyrics, combined with simple, well composed instrumentals are all you need. So glad I stumbled into this guy's talent. Reminds me of David Gray and Glen Hansard. Loved this performance.
The way his uses his guitar is actually hypnotic. I was just watching his hand movements at the start, then he starts singing plus his eyes closed and its just like how are you doing this? He is just such a fucking good musician!! Cannot wait to see him live in November.
You can tell he's so passionate about what he does, that he's relentlessly, undoubtedly in love with making music and creating masterpieces - and that's exactly what they are. Holy hell...that's EXACTLY what they are. The way his hands skim over his guitar over and over again, the way he furrows his eyebrows as he's concentrating...just perfect. Fucking PERFECT. Good god, I lose it when he says "lovely as you are" - he's a damned genius. Thank you, Ben, thank you.
Ben Howard opened my eyes towards acoustical music, most popular acoustic / singers use such simple guitar techniques, you hear the hard work Ben Howard puts in.
I stumbled upon this song again today on someone’s Instagram, and my senses were flooded with these sweet sounds from 10 years ago, a life that I can barely remember anymore - distant memories of what it seems another lifetime. I don’t even remember what I was doing listening to this song, maybe dancing alone in my living room, maybe cooking with an ex, maybe driving and smoking a cigarette like I used to - nonetheless even though I can’t remember, I remember all the lyrics, and every sweet sound, chord change, raw voice cracks and sweet emotion.
I made it! .Your a legend Ben, yourself and a couple of other musicians helped me get through the some dark times in the past 10 years. The song still cuts deep and sometimes I question if I am through the dark times. I’m sure time will tell.
Brent Gibala Don't like reading other peoples opinions? Easy solution. Stay off the internet, and most certainly stay out of the youtube comment section. Talk about selfish LOL!
Lmao, maybe it's your system. I'm on Pioneer digital 7.2 with special designed polk audio speakers to enhance guitar. This was when he started. +Jakub Wojajczyk the extra la la la added flavour to the live performance even if it was a mistake makes it its own unique version i legit wont listen to another version of this song because this is the one i heard first and the only one i found this good
found this guy at a festival before he made it big was incredible sunday morning sun had just came out and ben walked on stage.. something magic happened that day and now look at him... #beautifuldaysfestival
I love this performance. Ben looks like he's having an emotional breakdown and India is sitting there perfectly composed, watching her friend give his heart and soul away. its awesome.
WHY is this man not on MAINSTREAM RADIO?? Should be a PUNISHIBLE CRIME!! I just found him two days ago and I CANNOT STOP llistening!! My ass is killing me, my back is stuck and I highly doubt that my legs will work when I do finally try to stand and break away. PURE BRILLIANCE. If you are not moved to your core by him you either have NO SOUL or you are already dead. I cannot believe it took me until now to find him. EVERY version is better than the last. More talent, skill and genius in his pinky toe than ANY AND ALL "artists" before him. I mean EVERY goddamn letter of that.-Christy Fayard (Richards Mom-sorry bud. I had to)
Actually the views of Ben Howard's videos are jumping from thousands to millions. Mainstream Radio? Well, maybe he doesn't need a mainstream radio to reach people like you and me ;)
I have never listen to more relaxing but good beat music before in my life i just started listening and i and i love it when im stressed i just turn it on and i calm right down!!
Not only is this man blessed with an amazing voice! he has the audacity to become a wizard with an acoustic guitar! some people just make you feel talent-less!
some things will never grow old, honestly. and this is one of those things. the first song i heard was Black Flies and i was immediately hooked; this man doesn't just create music, he creates masterpieces and euphoric atmospheres, even if it's through a damn video online. i'd love to see him live!

I'm a grown ass man and this dude makes me feel like a 15-year-old teenage fangirl.
😂😂 I'm glad I'm not alone.
That's cuz he's a lyrical genius!!.. and I'm pretty sure that guitar is playing him... 🥶😂
Let them feelings out and try not to bother with other people's oppinion(like calling you Gay as an example) and you will feel free!
Yeah, he's my favorite musician, worth fangirling over for sure
Let it out brother!
God was tired the day he made Ben - Instead of sharing out all the talent equally, he just gave it all to Ben and went back to bed.
Shit, you're right.
I can’t even tune my guitar the way he does let alone play it like that..never mind the singing, song writing, gorgeous haunting emotional lyrics

I can't stop looking at what he's doing with the guitar at the beginning. Hypnotizing and eargasmic as fuck. I'm breathless.

Jon Gomm yes that's a name I'm glad to see in these comments. He makes beautiful music much like Ben!

I agree! When I read this, I initially thought you meant that he needs his music itself to be alive; for it to move, breathe and speak (for itself). Which is also true!
Watching this in 2023. Still to this day I haven’t seen anyone do it like Ben.
Oh I love this... look at 3:38. Backup vocals come in early. Ben looks over to her and smiles, she recognizes her mistake and smiles back. No drama, no interruption, still sounds incredible. the magic of live performances. Sometimes, the mistakes are what make the performance.
Damn, glad I read your comment. Woulda never realised that that was what it was about. Great stuff!
This is what flow state looks like. The way Ben can be so immersed in his songs and yet still be present to the moment. It truly is a beautiful sight to behold.
By far the most incredible songwriter of this generation
Hes top draw..🙌
not by far at all, Joey Burns from Calexico is one hell of a song writer ....

I agree, wouldn't call what he's doing with the guitar simple though!
my thoughts entirely - and I hear a whole lot of John Martin (RIP) who I have always loved.
He's got talent that is special and we have been gifted it.
Jeff Wortham I just stumbled.. I’m ashamed and embarrassed it took me this long ☮️💯💟
I stumbled by chance through Paul David's guitar channel and really have been amazed by Ben's musical personality and raw honest presence.

2023.... Ben Howard will and always will be the no.1 go-to-see act live!
this man plays that guitar like a keyboard, his quickness, his beat ability, his rhythm, he is a master. I don't normally envy but I envy him.
Always amazed by how Ben plays the guitar, it seems like he never settles for the obvious and easier musical paths! What a beauty, seriously !!!
This is so perfect in every way.
I truly believe that his music saves life's. It is preciously beautiful.

Ooooooooo ja …. Es gibt nix vergleichbares was nur annähernd da dran kommen könnte …. Hammer da sieht man und fühlt man LEIDENSCHAFT !!!!❤
that is pure talent. no one understands how hard it is to multitask between singing and playing guitar like that. beautiful, a true artist.
The look he gives India Bourne at 3:39 and her reaction, quality

Actually India Bourne made a mistake, and that look of his is to let her know that she started that lalala a bit earlier.

Real music, through and through. This song gives me shivers every time.
Ben Howard ages like wine🍷
The sounds this man can coax out of a guitar is otherworldly.
It’s songs like this I feel lucky enough to still be alive after pushing through the hardest 2 years of my life ✨ music is literally life 🙏🏻
Well Said!! 🕊️
Brilliant. Just brilliant. Gives me goosebumps every time.

this guy is ridiculously talented, going to one of his live shows is high on my of things to do

Man.. Ben is getting BIG, I remember listening to him almost a year ago now when almost noone knew his name.

The way he plays guitar is absolutely incredible, such a unique playing style! Love this song💕
What i love about this performance is that how they're living in the moment and just enjoyed singing together.
The way the girl just breaks into a smile at 3:30 gives me chills. You just know they love what they do so much
