It’s a reflection on society. Society has tried to make the world “fair” and the world will always be unfair. The truest way to balance the scales is to dig deep and make something happen. But this victim first mentality cries out for everyone else to make things fair.
Back in the day calling basketball a "non contact" sport seemed ridiculous. It was definitely a contact sport. Maybe that's the answer, change the definition. Everyone else is doing it.
The fact that the actual rules and protocol is different is one thing, and everyone has to live with it, unfortunately. But the thing I can't stand is the flopping and theatrics from certain players. Only thing that'd make it tolerable is if they rolled out a red carpet and presented an honorary academy award everytime someone really took a dive. Lebron would have a house full of them by now
Coaches were coaching men back then; while today, you have some young coaches who haven't put in the time coaching young men, and the older coaches don't get enough time to turn young players into NBA players
So I didn't grow up in the 90s, Shaquille O'neal was the guy who got me into Basketball and even that wasn't until he was on the Suns I just liked him because he was huge lol. My point is I turned off the NBA a few years ago because in middle of a playoff series I was just like "I hate this, I hate what the game has become" Watching Jordan games, I used tot think the 2008 Celtics were the most ferocious group of guys ever but in the Jordan era...that was every team, even teams that didn't have superstar athletes were playing hard, leaving it on the court EVERY GAME now we got guys missing games for their kids birthday party and it being praised for it instead of being like "Yeah, it's tough, but there are people who work normal jobs who don't get to call out just cuz their child has a birthday"
I can't even watch it anymore. It isn't just the "on-court" softness either... it's like they all just stopped emotionally maturing at age 13... completely insufferable. Men don't play the game anymore... and the majority of basketball fans agree.
It used to be a Men’s game, where they tried to beat the shit out of each other on the court, and be friends after the game was finished. But now they are soft on the court and pretend to be tough guys off the court, or in case of Ben Simmons, soft on the court and even softer off the court. Ben Simmons should repay the Sixers and the Nets every single dime that he has “earned” for being a fraud, he doesn’t belong on the court, let alone sitting next to it. But the fact that most players do not even try to play all the 82 games during a season, because it is too much, says enough.
Agree that it used to be a Men’s Game. Current NBA is soft. But nobody was friends with Detroit’s Isiah Thomas off the court except other Detroit Pistons. That’s why he was left off the Olympic Team. But I have no love for Isiah either, so. . . Lol
Soft and less competitive. In a lot of games players are content with shooting from the perimeter because they cant be touched and let the game be decided by a coin flip basically, whoever shoots closer to 50% wins that night. Thats the real problem, before, teams would not be content by that, they would do everything in their power to win, that means penetrate, put the other team in foul trouble, its not just softer it lacks any tactical point, because the players refuse to do their job and sacrifice for the team so they just pin themselves 45 degrees to the basket if they missed "oh well it was a good shot selection" instead of going for the high value shots. In 1992 you know who warned us about this.
the weird thing about these players is that most of them played in hardcore hoop areas, where you get hit all the time, playing back in the day against duded in st croix, they played without shoes
Another thing I don't like about today's players is that EVERYTHING injures them. They get a scrape on their knee and sit out for 6 weeks. Larry Bird played with broken bones. Kobe Bryant played with dislocated fingers and no cartilage in his knees. Michael Jordan played in the Finals with the flu. Back in the day if you could walk, you played.
@@silvercat6425 That doesn’t mean the game is boring that means that you are focusing on what the media is showing you and their narrative. Which has nothing to do with the game of basketball based on your own statement. lol
I still love this sport, but it's painful how different it is. You know how many 3's Kareem made in his entire career? One, and he played it off as a joke. I miss the days when a 3 from downtown was occasional and not a staple. I miss defense, and a struggle to the rim. The struggle made those low scores all the sweeter. I miss the things that made this game addicting to watch.
The NBA needs 2 things to come back to their heights of glory; 1) they need to bring back hand-checking and defense. Offense is only impressive when it’s beating defense 2) they need another Magic/Bird dynamic to bring people back.
For me it‘s more the an attitude than an approach thing. Loved 90s Basketball, miss the post-up game and defense but my main issue is flopping, players sitting out games and contracts, all the stuff I used to despise in european soccer culture has ruined the NBA now!
I grew up watching the NBA from the late 80's and 90's when it was in it's prime! I started to lose interest in the early 2000's as I started seeing the changes back then! I haven't watch a game in 20 years! I watch clips here and there on UA-cam and it is actually terrible what the NBA has become.
The 00s with Kobe, Shaq, Garnett, Iverson was awesome aswell. When the Warriors became this 3pt, small ball shooting team, that's when it went downhill because now the inside game is gone. That's one of the fundamental aspect of the game that's not exists anymore
Good video. A lot of reasons why it’s not as good as it used to be. I’m 69 years old, but I quit watching in 2014 after the Spurs last glory games. The best games werein the 80s and 90s. It’s just not as much fun to watch anymore. That’s all.
The product is ABSOLUTE SH1TTY TRASH!!!!! My oldest brother bought tix for Bulls vs Bucks game here in Chicago. He took my grand-nephew, he got GREAT (I didn't wanna know the total price) seats! Low and behold Giannis was out due to "load management!" Sounds like something correlative to a semi-truck and what and how long the haul is🤔 Since that 2020 season (especially that FINALS), these titles should come with an "asterisk."
Agree 100%!!! I stopped watching the NBA years ago because of how the game is played today. If Lebron played back when Jordan was playing he would get crushed or maybe due to his physical size he would change into that type of player that would play physical as well as his other talents but we'll never know. I applaud him for his playing this long but alot has to do with the "hands off" NBA of today. Just my opinion
I want a two 3pt lines if you chucking too many three's per half you will have to shoot behind the penalty line that's further back and cuts out the corners. It's obvious threes are much more valuable than two's so, so you got to disincentivize three's as a go to shot and more as a sharp shooter shot. Make shooting and defending three's a strategy and not a dependency again.
Take away the 3pt shoot. It would evolve to " the closer you are to basket, the more chance you have to score " just like before. That's why the game always was outside in
To me it is more about the mental softness than the physical calls. And its not just basketball, In the 1980s and 90s you got Bird playing with a fractured Cheek bone and messed up back, MJ playing with the Flu and food poisoning multiple times, But today in the NFL a few years ago back when he was with the Texans Jadaveon Clowney was listed as unable to play due to the FLU, I could understand limiting him to two plays per series ...and he was healthy enough he was on the sideline. But MJ played over 30 min so sick he could barely stand. And in basketball players "load mange" they basically take a day off because they are sore. My HS coach used to say are you hurt or are you injured...if your Hurt you tough it out, if you injured we bring out the doctor and check you out. Players cannot tough it out through the little things and if they feel the offense is not running through them enough they want a trade (Harden, Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook to name a few...they have all requested multiple trades because it was not their way....WEAK minded.)
I don't even watch the NBA anymore. I gradually went from just tuning in around April or May... to just the playoffs... to just the Finals... to now, just never. Their product is horrible.
It's not so much that the players are soft, the game itself is soft. it has become bring the ball up, try and take your man off the dribble, if not, take a bad shot. For me it's unwatchable. How many times did players used to take days off because they needed rest?
I stubbed my toe coach, i gotta sit out. But coach, i gotta headache i can't play. Super strong athletes throw you across the floor with their finger push. Today's NBA.
Cream and Crimson Hoosier here. I loooove this new ball. Reminds me of the time before 3 pointers and shot clocks. Three seconds was still called, and you could still find Chuck Taylors squeekin' on the floor. So, I got a bit of perspective. (I think I'm Chief's age.) It's like a manic 4 corners out there. They get done in 35 seconds what used to take about 4 minutes. The back door screens passed up shots, somebody streaking down the lane for a layup (Dunk). Watch some old 4 corners and come back. As far as I'm concerned, they may not be beating each other up; yet this is the progression and maybe apex of the game so far.
Love ya SD! You are the Zohan! Silky smooth! NBA basketball, the sport of all sports has become unwatchable for me. And give Caitlyn Clark her due, but the WNBA? Forget-a-bout-it. I have never and will never watch a game.
I can't agree with White Chocolate saying players have evolved. Oscar Robertson would adapt fast & dominate if zapped into 2024. He now gets charter flights Doesn't have to deal with the direct rasicm State of the art traing facility & diet plans Better basket ball sneakers Now I would say this the talent pool now is more well rounded & that's has alot to do with more of the euro/world players coming to the league
I agree with you. Players in the mid-2000's on back were cut from a different cloth. They had the mental and physical toughness to adapt. It's today's whiny entitled Primadonna's who would get torched if they were sent back in time and had to play against greats like MJ, Kareen, Oscar Robertson, etc.
Bron Stans have to rationalize every single facet of basketball in the most distortive ways in order to create a post-hoc rationale for his shortcomings including, but not limited to, pooping on every other era to make it seem like THIS era has the most talent and is the most difficult, over-inflating the value of his accomplishments and stats by failing (intentionally) to properly contextualize them, ignoring his substandard finals record compared to other greats, and ignoring the fact he's played with more talent than any player in NBA history. Harden took KD Warriors to 7 games, Bron won ONE GAME vs KD Warriors in two years lol. LeOverrated. I really wish we could get a random sampling of 1000 Bron fans and 1000 fans of any other player and just measure their IQs. I suspect Bron fans would lose that battle.

They’re all right. I tried watching the NBA again this year and I hadn’t watched since MJ retired. It’s awful. Everything is a foul and it’s unreal that you can challenge a call which can take minutes to review - absurd! And everyone just throws up a three point - boring AF!
People loved the NBA in the 50s and 60s, but grew to hate the league during the 70s (mostly because of the antics and attitudes of the players). The public was reengaged with the NBA during the 80s and 90s, but are losing interest again because of the drama.
Watching the nba today is like watching an unserious pickup game. Just go down and jack up barely contested shots frowm wherever you like. And if someone decides to actually put in effort they arr called for a foul or the other guys start flopping and crying. Its unwatchable. And this is from a person who absolutely loves basketball.
Most contracts in the NBA should.be 10 days. Just continue to sign ten days. Injured players should only get half pay, like workers comp. All this money upfront is killing the hunger.
It's the traveling that bothers me the most, but the lack of post game/ physicality and chucking 3s constantly are right up there. I can't believe it, but I actually think the old timers were right about the 3 pointer running the game. It just took a long time before it happened.
The one dribble past the three point line with that big ole gather step and dunk is one of the biggest reason mid ranges and post up have become a less desirable.shot. That and teams chucking up three without any impunity on that shot. Create a second 3pt line for chucking too many three's , a penalty 3 point line. and watch the game drastically change. All that floor spacing will go away if they have to shoot three's further back and with no corners to shoot from.
Back in the 80s and 90s it was like 2 armies going to war when rivals played each other, grown man type shit!. Look no farther than Lebron at how its gotten so weak and soft. He get touched, lay on the ground 10 minutes, then hop up, aint a damn thing wrong with him. Smh.

Adam Silver let players destroyed the NBA I grew up watching
Loved the NBA in the 90s
Back in the day they used to do whatever it takes to win. Now they do whatever it takes to hype and get more money. Fans? Who?
And team up for an easy ring like KD and the big three did in Miami
I really find it funny that they call it a Eurostep when in all actually it is traveling!
I can't even watch it anymore. It isn't just the "on-court" softness either... it's like they all just stopped emotionally maturing at age 13... completely insufferable.
Men don't play the game anymore... and the majority of basketball fans agree.
"No blood, no foul" was the #1 parkboard rules.
It’s gotten really boring. No good rivalries anymore. Too much money and not enough passion and competitive fire.
But I have no love for Isiah either, so. . . Lol
@@adquinta Isiah Thomas was friendly with McHale and Bird, at least off-court
Exactly! Respect is for before and after the game. During the game though, play to win.
Jordan was literally taking Barkley out to dinner before the Finals. Wtf are you on about?
@@andrewcook1246 I think he generally meant off the court.
In 1992 you know who warned us about this.
money created divas that think they are more important than the league they are supposed to serve
Everybody should be really broke for a while. Nothing makes you appreciate something more than having nothing
the weird thing about these players is that most of them played in hardcore hoop areas, where you get hit all the time, playing back in the day against duded in st croix, they played without shoes
Today NBA is boring......today nba players is all about their lifestyle, players don't have no respect for the game of basketball
The NBA needs 2 things to come back to their heights of glory;
1) they need to bring back hand-checking and defense. Offense is only impressive when it’s beating defense
2) they need another Magic/Bird dynamic to bring people back.
For me it‘s more the an attitude than an approach thing.
Loved 90s Basketball, miss the post-up game and defense but my main issue is flopping, players sitting out games and contracts, all the stuff I used to despise in european soccer culture has ruined the NBA now!
They're absolutely right. I barely watch any games these days
That’s all.
It’s funny man, every video you put out, I 100% agree. We’d be great friends!
Soft since warriors start winning..soft since the long ball era begins in 2014 i think.
Love your show! nba today is not entertaining to me 😢
Man! Salute to you! I love your analysis and your footage. One of the best basketball commentary on UA-cam.
The NBA game has become soft, boring , unwatchable.
The product is ABSOLUTE SH1TTY TRASH!!!!! My oldest brother bought tix for Bulls vs Bucks game here in Chicago. He took my grand-nephew, he got GREAT (I didn't wanna know the total price) seats!
Low and behold Giannis was out due to "load management!" Sounds like something correlative to a semi-truck and what and how long the haul is🤔
Since that 2020 season (especially that FINALS), these titles should come with an "asterisk."
An NBA competitive solution: eliminate the 3pt line until the 4th qtr....
No carry calls, no traveling calls, no hand checking on D. It makes boring ball.
They should try maybe during the all star game to make points in the paint worth 2, everywhere else worth 1, then we start seeing post ups again
Take away the 3pt shoot.
It would evolve to " the closer you are to basket, the more chance you have to score " just like before. That's why the game always was outside in
Let's see what happens in the Olympics, buddy. 😎
Great video, as always.
I can't stand the way the NBA has gotten so soft. Basketball is meant to be a physical game and taking that out of the game just ruins it for me.
If only we had a time machine to let Lebron play against the Bad Boys or the early 90's Knicks
It's like we've gone from watching an episode of "jerry Springer" to an episode of "the view", when it comes to today's nba.
I was watching the game since the 80s and now today's game is soft. I agree 100 %
I'm from Australia, and don't watch NBA anymore. It's so boring it puts me to sleep 😴. So over LeSook and he's antic's.. only watch this stuff.
I can't agree with White Chocolate saying players have evolved. Oscar Robertson would adapt fast & dominate if zapped into 2024.
He now gets charter flights
Doesn't have to deal with the direct rasicm
State of the art traing facility & diet plans
Better basket ball sneakers
Now I would say this the talent pool now is more well rounded & that's has alot to do with more of the euro/world players coming to the league
I don't see 1 v 1 basketball rivalries anymore. Seeing big men battle in the post was exciting for me.
Indeed it ain’t like the old days.💭🙉
I suspect Bron fans would lose that battle.
man i grew up sat morning watching cartoon then at 10(i am from montreal)channel 21 it was inside stuff afterwars i was hyped enough for my day at the court came back at 5h30 then at 6h15 i was back at the court until 9 then back at the house to catch the east coast main game in replay on canadian tv(usually bulls but knicks pacers or celtics sometimes)then i cleaned my sneakers and watch a martial arts movie before sleep...YOUR CHANNEL IS A STRAIGHT BLESSING FOR GUYS LIKE ME!!!!!!!!DONT CHANGE ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! yo bro what happen to that retro martial arts movie project of yurs i was so lookig for????
finally !!, it's back:
"without further blabla" yeah, love it.
... been a while,
was one of the reasons I subscribed on the spot a couple of yrs ago.
Im going to '' beat you '' had a whole different meaning in the 70s through the mid 90s than now. Im happy I got to watch that whole period.
Of course the NBA is soft, they let Bronny James play in the Summer League 2024.
The 3 points nba kill the NBA
Shawn, I'm literally falling in love with you, but I'm a little too far (I live in Italy), and, for some reason, I still prefer the other part of of the sky, as we say in Italy. But joking aside, since I got to know your channel, I haven't miss a video because you're really of another level, and you're simply the best. Keep doing this wonderful work Shawn, and never be afraid to say what you think (I knew you don't need to be told, sorry). Greetings from Pesaro!!!
The problem, no disrespect to anybody. Too many European who grew up watching Soccer players barely get touch and throw their hands in the air and fake shit up. Protect the players, LOL. Look at the last NHL playoffs, players are bigger, faster. They stiil hit hard.
Can someone please tell me the name of the song playing in the background while he is talking?
They’re all right. I tried watching the NBA again this year and I hadn’t watched since MJ retired. It’s awful. Everything is a foul and it’s unreal that you can challenge a call which can take minutes to review - absurd! And everyone just throws up a three point - boring AF!
People loved the NBA in the 50s and 60s, but grew to hate the league during the 70s (mostly because of the antics and attitudes of the players).
The public was reengaged with the NBA during the 80s and 90s, but are losing interest again because of the drama.
Today's NBA is trash. Just 3 point BS. It's boring.
I haven’t watched in a couple years.
A lot of today's players are paid more to do less & could care less about winning. Their bank account & their spoiled ego's are bloated...
Grats on the movie The Last Kumite...Point out where we can buy the movie to support you.
It s been tooo long now. Has to be changed soon or it s gone.
I remember that run last year when everybody was droppin 50 and 60 and I was like, they gotta bring back defense.
I miss the true centers of the old NBA.
I never thought I’d say this, but I watch the WNBA more than the NBA these days. 😂
From Trinidad and Tobago, this is why I don't look at the NBA anymore.
Back in the 80s and 90s it was like 2 armies going to war when rivals played each other, grown man type shit!. Look no farther than Lebron at how its gotten so weak and soft. He get touched, lay on the ground 10 minutes, then hop up, aint a damn thing wrong with him. Smh.
Yeah dude! I remember Giannis dunking on someone and getting t'd up for meanmugging the guy he had just posterized!
K-Mart was fugazi. All around.
Nba been on a downward spiral since “The Decision”
Thinking Jordan can be controlled better in this no touching era vs. the physical eras Jordan played through is some of the most asinine shit I've heard.
I'm getting into basketball and NBA and yeah, there is a lack of physicality, which I think would make it more entertaining to watch.
