I marvel at how amazing BTS is at maintaining an astoundingly profitable relationship with ARMY--they're absolute masters at conveying sincerity, whether that's genuine or not I have no idea because I'll never be in the room where it's explicitly discussed. Sometimes I think so, but sometimes I don't because they aren't always consistent in matching words to actions. But then again, most of us humans aren't. Who knows?

SB is one of the most vile humans in the entertainment industry, but he IS good at making money for entertainment companies. That is why HYBE and BTS have not ended their working relationship with him. They *choose* his talent for earning money over condemning his abhorrent behaviour. All of this is a choice--none of them are helpless. We've recently seen clear examples of how little we actually know about idols as people--what we do know is very carefully curated to secure parasocial relationships thus securing (brand) loyalty which translates to maximum purchases from fans. It's ALL business--every smile, every song, every performance, every live, every documentary, every piece of merch, every hair colour change, every post on Weverse, every TikTok challenge, etc. That's not to say idols don't feel honest affection for fans or passion for their music, it's just that both of these also make them wealthier and it's important to understand that motivation. I marvel at how amazing BTS is at maintaining an astoundingly profitable relationship with ARMY--they're absolute masters at conveying sincerity, whether that's genuine or not I have no idea because I'll never be in the room where it's explicitly discussed. Sometimes I think so, but sometimes I don't because they aren't always consistent in matching words to actions. But then again, most of us humans aren't. Who knows?
