I read a couple of Freke's books, a number of times, many years ago and still have them on the shelf. They impacted me massively. I was brought up in the C of E etc, like many of my age, but tbh, was never a staunch Christian. Freke's books (and the novel The Mists of Avalon) totally shifted my thinking about Christianity and Paganism. I no longer believe in an historical Jesus, neither do I have any "fear" of Hell etc. If anything, I'm a Deist. But, I don't lose any sleep over the matter! 😀😀
People also forget at this. There were several major cults going around the empire and in Judea. Of course, the discovery at the fort that Herod the Great built of a strange religious cult of Judaism just supports the whole concept. Christianity just happened to be the most popular of the Cults
You also got it wrong about Buddha. Buddha is a human being through spiritual practises, attained full enlightenment. Buddha therefore pointed this way of practice to all sentient beings with a view that all sentient beings eventually attain Buddhahood like him. Buddha is not god, not a supernatural being in the sky intervening with human affairs. He is not the fictitional god who overpower humanity, punish those disobeying or disbelieving him, reward those who believe in the bullshit. Buddha would not punish you if you do not practise Buddha Dharma, He would not intervene with human affairs.
J R Tolkien author of Lord of the Rings seemed to think that yes the Christian story appears to be just another of the world's many myths but with one difference ie this is the myth that really happened. It's the true story that all stories were hinting at. It doesn't shut down progress and thought and inquiry when properly understood but brings a light and hope and understanding to all of history and existence.
Same Jesus. The difference is Jesus never said to just worship him and he's got this. Paul who never really met him (If Jesus indeed existed, it's a monomyth story) said to just treat him like an idol. Not in those exact words, but with that exact effect. Jesus is like a Buddha. If we get there, we're onto something. Now we have Christianity. The slackest. least identifiable way of life on the planet. Being a Christian doesn't take any real work. Just a closed and fearful mind.
When the Greeks conquered Kemet which they called Egypt. They created a hybrid parental deity in order to combine Egyptian mythology with Greek mythology. So they combined the Egyptian God Thoth with the Greek God Hermes. They called him Hermes Trismegistus III. Which means… “The Thrice Great.” He was famous for triumphing over the season of death. Which is what the number 3 almost always symbolizes in World Mythology. Isn't this what the Flavian Dynasty did after conquering the Jews? Didn't they create a new hybrid form of Greco-Roman Judaism? To integrate Jewish mythology with Greco-Roman mythology? Calling him… “Jesus The Christ.” Who is also famous for triumphing over the season of death. As represented by… “The Trinity.” Isn't this a better explanation for the origins of Christianity rather than Harry Houdini magic? Wasn't Paul secretly working for the Flavian Dynasty? Weren't all of the original Roman Catholic Saints' members of the Flavian Dynasty? Weren't all of the original symbols used by the earliest Christians identical to those of the Flavian Dynasty? And wasn't the earliest iconographic image of Jesus The Christ, in a catacomb, under the city of Rome, which was owned by a Flavian Princess? Weren't all of the original Jesus cult texts produced under the oversight of the Flavian Dynasty? Didn't the Flavian Dynasty posses the only remaining copy of the Hebrew Tanakh other than the Greek Septuagint translation? Isn't there Flavian typology in the Gospels? Weren't the canonical texts all back dated like the historical fiction of Gone With The Wind? Wasn't Emperor Vespasian known as the Jewish Messiah? Wasn’t Pope Clement of Rome a Flavian? Wasn't Josephus a temple whore for the Flavian Dynasty? Weren't the Flavian’s, as well as Paul, descended from King Herod? There was no separation of Church and State in the Roman Empire. And Christianity is clearly a Greco-Roman hybrid form of Judaism created by the Flavian Dynasty. As an attempt to adapt, pacify, and integrate the rebellious and defiant Jews into the rest of the Greco-Roman Empire. Just like the Greeks created Hermes Trismegistus III to integrate Egyptian mythology with Greek mythology. Then finally Neo-Flavian Constantine chose the Flavian family religion to be the official religion of the entire Roman Empire. In order to consolidate power in his seriously fractured Empire. And then Eusebius edited and rewrote the history of the previous 3OO years. Destroying all contradictory evidence. Such as all of the non-canonical Jesus cult texts. It isn't history it is all simply Greco-Roman mythopoetic literature. Today it is known as Historical Fiction. “What profit hath not this fable of Christ brought us.” Pope Leo X 💙
We have the story of Yeshua, the wandering delusional preacher raised in the Jewish tradition of obedience to the Laws of Moses and Abraham and executed for stirring up the people followed by the story of Jesus, the miracle working, resurrected Son of Yahweh who will return one day to gather up the faithful.
That's where it gets problematic, there is no evidence and people come up with similar ideas at the same time. The sketchy evidence for the existence of a real person should be enough
@trentonjennings9105, he did mentioned The Roman pagan god Mythras or Mithras at arouind 7 : 13, of this video, Several authors wrote books on Mithraism if you're interested to learn, Payam Nabarz, wrote the Mysteries of Mithras, Franz Cumont, Roger Beck wrote about the pagan Religion of Mithras cult. Christianity borrow a lot from these pagan cults.
Jesus was called as the only son of God, had supernatural powers, traveled with hand picked disciples and instructs to seek the Kingdom of Heaven Within. King Arthur was called as the only one who could get Excalibur, had Merlin for supernatural powers, traveled with hand picked Knights and seeks the Holy Grail. Mono-myths. See the template? We got thousands of them but only one of them is Idol worshiped. Now, you can perhaps blend The Buddha with Lao Tzu, Buddhism and Daoism, but you do not blend either of them with Abrahamic, idol worshiping garbage.

‘Personal Jesus’ by Depeche Mode is a good place to start.

Thnks. Well and wisely put!

Paul's Jesus has nothing to do with Jesus of Nazareth. Paul's Jesus was a mythical being.

I’ll stick with Siegfried, much better looking.

Believer?
You people have been saying he will return for 2000 years!! Going the Scenic route is he?
There are tens of thousands of people from all sorts of life who had NDE and met Jesus
Nobody met Budha or Mohamed or Moses. Does that make them a myth, you think?
I listened to the whole thing assuming he was going to describe the pagan myths that the Jesus story was built on.
Watch Caesars Messiah video then.....
Well that’s because the majority of Christianity is based on myths that have been passed down.
That's where it gets problematic, there is no evidence and people come up with similar ideas at the same time.
The sketchy evidence for the existence of a real person should be enough

The closest thing to a Jesus type is a dog.
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!! (Do not get offended cat lovers, you can substitute. Lol)
