There is a reason for the NA release of the Pikmin 2 port being delayed: they had to the get the licenses for the real life products in the game, It's also probably why they just straight up removed them in the Switch version, to not have to go through that much trouble.
I think it's worth bringing up that a lot of people prefer the Wii versions solely because of the new pointer controls, the main appeal of the Wii releases. Many people including myself like having the ability to move the captain and cursor separately and it alone makes the Wii versions of 1 and 2 the best versions for me easily. Too bad the Switch versions use 4's awful motion/stick hybrid controls
One of my favourite bits of the new control scheme was that it allowed me to effectively make a "mouse + keyboard" control scheme on dolphin. (mouse stands in for the pointer and left-click for throw and right-click to swarm) It was awesome playing the closest thing to pikmin on PC.
I actually prefer the gamecube and switch controls for pikmin 1 & 2 personally, never liked wii games that constantly make you point at the screen espically a game like pikmin where where your cursor is placed is do or die sometimes it hurts my wrists after awhile but that's an uncommon opinion
@@acmargatroid well tbf pikmin 1 does have an official pc port. They found an exe file on the disc that lets you play the entire game + debugging features. Since it is a dev version it is a bit buggy.

Woah. I've been a hardcore Pikmin fan since I was about 12 and I never knew that those high pitched sounds that the sleeping bulborbs made were supposed to be snores. Mind blowing actually. I just thought that they added the snore sound effect in Pikmin 2. Also, the crushing glitch is absolute trash and I hate it. It made getting my 9 day run extremely difficult, though I have accomplished it twice on the wii. I have definitely encountered all of these glitches during my play time numerous times, with the exception of never seeing the Libra glitch.
About throwing Pikmin, you only need to wag the Nunchuk stick and keep Olimar in front of the Pikmin squad if you want to do rapid-throwing. Much more comfortable, practical, and you keep your aiming steady.
Don't do a deathless run on the wii version, worst mistake of my life It's funny how this glitch made puffstoll really dengerous for wrong reasons, but the crushing glitch is ( almost ) non-existing in the switch port
I think it might be because the bulborb is sleeping on a not so super flat area? I’m pretty sure this issue is present with some other enemies due to not super flat terrain
Yeah, there’s a tiny indent in the ground where it’s sleeping. The Pikmin run off that indent and count as airborne so they don’t latch on. If you turn the Bulborb around, then you can attack it.
I loved it when I could tell when my Pikmin died due to bridge building. And oh my gosh, the bulborb snore wasn't supposed to sound like that? My entire life I thought it was just a weird decision Nintendo made.
Ive only played through pikmin 1 once and it was the wii version so i always thought the game was just like that. Probably gonna replay the gme when i get the switch version and I’ll finally be able to hear the bulborb snoring sound as miyamoto intended
I am still nostalgic about the terrible sound effects due to Chuggaconroy's Let's Play. I grew up with the GameCube version, but I always saw those differences as "easter eggs" or intentional changes due to their low profile because of the let's play commentary. They sounded like squeaky toys! It's still a shame that a buggier game became even buggier, but at least things like sequence breaks seen to remain in tact, unlike Metroid Prime's immediate Space Jump boots trick being removed, for example.
you mentioned the counter glitch and crushing glitch but it's kinda debatable whether it's actually worse on wii (i'm currently doing testing) you mentioned swarm trick but you neglected to mention Wii has another, better trick where you rest your cursor on the place you throw at and move olimar throughout your squad for instant throwing you also say that 2 had modern throwing but this is false, throwing is the same as pikmin 1, but pikmin move to your hand faster and for the bomb rock ppint you didnt mention that bombs can be faster on wii since you have much better aiming and you say seitch carries over improvements but it utterly butcheres the main reason why wii is the best, the motion controls on switch the gyro is slower, more limited in range, and only wirks when throeing or whistling, which is completely inferior to the full decoupled aiming of wii
I don't think I've ever heard that Bulborb snoring glitch, and most of the time I've played Pikmin 1 on the wii. Or many of these glitches, really. The one I'm really familiar with is the crushing glitch which is annoying, but it's still in the GameCube version anyway. I personally love the Wii port simply because being able to so accurately throw pikmin where I want is just so nice.
4:25 I use a method where instead of replicating the Gamecube method, I simply just start spinning around as that leads to the Pikmin to group together and closer to Olimar, which allows for fast throwing speeds.
Fun fact: I experienced less glitches in my playthrough of Sonic 06 than I did with my playthrough of Pikmin 1. Fortunately, I didn’t get the Libra glitch. EDIT: I don’t really understand the priorities with this port. They fixed a frame-perfect soft lock on the first day, but not the bridge glitch or the crushing glitch, both were fixed in the original Pikmin 2?
Honestly I’m just too used to the Wii version lol. Mainly just like the widescreen, controls don’t matter that much but i definitely prefer them. Though admittedly I did run into a loooot of Pikmin dying for no reason. (Also I think the audio glitch happens due to the game incorrectly pitching up the sound way more than it’s supposed to? Not 100% sure on that though)
finally someone understands how much the wii port broke the final boss. One other thing to add is the fact the wii is backwards compatible with gamecube games so you might as well just get an original copy (if you can get it for anything reasonable)
I'm stuck on NPC forever because going from freely pointing the cursor to contolling it with the same stick as movement feels so unbelievably afwul I just can't do it, yay :)
I never realized crushing was a glitch. I just thought it was a weird Pikmin 1 feature like tripping or death sprouts, like it'd make sense that a giant creature falling on your pikmin would crush it. Unfair but makes sense.

I remember hearing that the EU version of pikmin 1 didn't have the high-pitched enemy sounds that the US version did, so I tried to diagnose it by extracting the game files and digging through, changing things around, and repackaging the ISO. Turns out, the enemy sounds are linked to the onion sounds. In the EU copy, the enemy sounds are normal speed, but the onion sounds are slower and lower-pitched. In the US, it's the complete reverse. I'm pretty sure in the Wii port the pikmin react less to your whistle at onions. When pikmin bring items back to their onion, once the onion sucks the item up, the pikmin seem locked in to watching the item be sucked up for more frames than the gamecube one.
the wii version also had completely different aiming mechanics - rather than the cursor being a set distance in front of you, it could stretch across the screen because olimar and the cursor were controlled seperately, and the throw arc/speed matches the distance meaning you can throw pikmin significantly farther or throw them up walls to cheese obstacles
I literally have a clip somewhere where I swarm a spotty bulbear with 100 pikmin and I end up with probably 20 pikmin due to the stupid crush glitch (maybe 10-20 died from the bulbear eating them but the rest got crushed) Wii version ofc

I see.
I hate when they die of literally nothing
And yes I did them deathless, 10 times in fact
Id still take the Wii version over the GameCube version since I really like having the pointer controls and not being able to manually choose what pikmin type you throw is super annoying
Still think the switch version over the other two any day though
It's not a big deal choosing which one to throw, either dismiss them or find the one you want and hold A and they'll lineup
_DID THIS MAN JUST SAY IT WAS BAD CONTROLS_
It has **BETTER** controls wth is wrong with you.
Yes
I didn't have any problems with the Wii version 🤷
I seriously think there is not a single good pikmin port
Pikmin 3 deluxe maybe ?
Pikmin Wii = pikmin bedrock edition
BuT yOo CaN aIm WiTh Da WiI wEmOtE!!!1! (Idk man i played the switch version and I just got gud at the cursor controls there)
I know a lot of people loved the pointer controls in Wii, but I prefer the static GameCube controls. They’ve always felt better.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who finds the wii version to be the worst version of Pikmin 1
