Just a warning for those with sensitive skin and Need products to be fragrance free. The Loreal Glycolic face cleanser contains menthol which can be terrible for those of us who are sensitive to such things. I tried it without reading the label because it said that it was "fragrance free" and it has taken me about 2 months to get my skin closer to how nice it was before.
Fortunately it didn't cause problems but I couldn't stand the feeling of menthol on my skin. I really don't understand the purpose of menthol in this product.
Last year my barrier was damaged by a higher level of tretinoin and l-ascorbic acid at 20%. My provider lowered my tretinoin dose and I dropped l-ascorbic acid. While it took a while, this winter I've had no barrier problems. I give credit also to Paula's Choice Intensive Repair cream.
I made that mistake as well. Listening to all these you tube influencers. My fault for sure. Using high levels of retina a, 20% vitamin C, glycolic sometimes, also phytic and lactic acid. I ended up with peri oral dermatitis, stopped all irritants. It has been 4 weeks and just now starting to heal and go away. After antibiotics, steroids, so trust me when I say after 60 be calming to your skin and light exfoliant’s.
What I changed for winter dryness: 1. switched to THD vitamin c serum based on your video 2. Stopped using a cleanser in the morning 3. Added Cocokind Barrier Serum which is full of ceramides to my routine before my am moisturizer 3. Switched from Cerave lotion in the morning to Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost Cream with THD based on your recommendation of adding a vitamin c moisturizer
I use Vanicream's THD Vitamin C. It's 5%. I feel it's a good starter. I had VERY little short irritation from it. I noticed brightening the first day I used it.
@@RazorbackNation75 I am using the Vanicream C too - on my neck and upper chest. I bought the PTR Potent C serum on sale for $68 and am using that on my face to see if I like it enough to spend that much. I searched online for info about how long the container lasts and 1 person said 2 months despite using it twice a day. If it lasts months then it’s not expensive per month.
This is what I need. My skin is so sensitive. And I’ve been using tretinoin for years. And it has started drying my skin out. So I will be buying both of the Inkey products. I already have several of them. Just not the right ones. I can’t use a high percentage of Vitamin C. It’s really hard on my skin. So I usually just skip it. But with my skin barrier repaired. I may be able to handle it again.
Someone recently asked me what I use on my face since my skin has been looking good. I've learned from you the benefit of ceramides and other stuff to strengthen over time, and other stuff to benefit your skin, even if you're oily. He said if he doesn't see an improvement after 2 weeks, he gives up. But I now know these things take time and if you want immediate results, the results are generally temporary. It's about rebuilding and supporting, and it takes time. But maybe through time and experience, you come to value that.
Just brill, Doc! This is exactly what I need for my mature, post menopausal skin. Can’t wait to see your follow up to this and have already ordered the Paula’s Choice Barrier cream. Liz, UK.
I ordered a full skincare set from Inkey. I was shocked at how small the containers were. Yes, it is a lower priced skincare line, but it should be when the items are really more travel size. 😢
This is the first winter in which I noticed my skin getting drier due to the drier air and adjusted my skincare routine to prevent it getting worse before my skincare barrier got damaged. Age plus winter, sigh.
Thank you for the very helpful video. I am wondering what ingredients we can look for in our own moisturizers or serums that indicates they are barrier repairing or not? The ingredients often are hard to decipher.
Neutrogena makes an hyaluronic acid with B5 serum now. And Paula's Choice has an omega barrier repair cream. More affordable than avene, even if it doesn't pay for an endorsement.
My favorite for my dry, sensitive skin! 💙💙💙 Hydration: Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner Barrier Repair: SkinFix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream Exfoliant: Naturium Retinol Complex Cream (I started with more gentle retinols and built up to this)
Hello Dr ! Your skin looks so much plump than before! Your nasobial Folds almost disapear. It's hard to believe it was just cosmetics, but please tell me what is your secret 😊?
one of the company owners was born in Australia, but has lived in USA for decades. they are based in America and only sell to the American market. they used the word 'Australia' in their title for marketing purposes.
My rosacea flared up 2 weeks ago and I've been following you. My skin barrier was damaged from all the products I was slathering on my skin to prevent drying which only made it worse. So my question for rosacea, do you recommend the Avene Hyaluron Activ B3 or any hyaluronic acid?
Your Paulas choice link take me to Paulas “Intensive Repair”, not “Barrier Repair”. These are 2 different items. Which one are u recommending? I only see the intensive one on Amazon.
I love your videos they are so helpful. Can you tell me if putting castor oil on the chest skin will tighten the skin from sagging breast’s from having a baby please. Thank you. God Bless
Most derms who talk about castor oil tend to address hair, sometimes for the face. For post partum skincare, I'd check Dr. Sam Ellis' video. She goes over a number of things.
The consensus among skinfluensers is yes. But I haven't tried it yet. Castor oil doesn't cause hair to grow where there was none and it doesn't turn peach fuzz into thick hair. It will nourish hair that's already there and protect it from loss.
Question Dr It i use a skin barrier cream under a tretinoin and then use the barrier cream on top, would this still allow the tretinion to penetrate with less irritation?

I tried it in the past and made the mistake of using it too often. If I go about every 7-10 days, I can tolerate it.

I can't stand menthol. The smell or the feel of that cooling sensation. Ugh. I'd take it back to the store and write to loreal.
exactly; loreal cleanser broke my skin barrier so much. still healing 😂😢😢

Happy New Year, Doctor! Could you please do a video dedicated to Korean skincare! Thank you!
Hi doc as someone w sensitive mature skin + acne I really appreciate your information.
Thank you Dr. Locke! I have been very much disliking my 60 yo skin! Looks dry and dull so I'm thankful for all your tips!
Vanicream has a new moisturizer that has hyaluronic acid, ceramides, cholesterol. It soaks right in. More ceramides than cerave.

Second the Klairs toner, it’s so good (and for those wondering it’s not an astringent, it’s almost like a liquid moisturizer.) it’s SO good!
What about serums for folks who don't like hyaluronic acid based on humectants like glycerin, beta glucan, allantoin, urea or even polyglutamic acid?
Can you please make a video to help aging skin with saggy and crapey skin problems?

Why can't we get Australian Gold sunscreen here in Australia? Never seen or heard of it....bizarre 😁
It is a US brand so that's probably why. I believe someone said at one time that the founders of the brand are Australian.

Can the active hyalurone B3 be used on atopic teenage skin?

Rosacea here. I don't use it. It irritates me. I think HA needs a perfect environment with an additional occlusive over it tbh.
I might check her rosacea video from last year. She goes over products.

What do you think about a physical exfoliant like Clinique Exfoliator?
Cannot get the Sparkle brand of collagen in the UK. Are their other collagen ,verisol products available in the UK? Thanks.

I do not think glycolic acid is considered a "gentle" exfoliant.
