      ​@TheFabrik it was most likely a kid's toy. Safety regulations were not paramount 100 years ago.
      In the 1960's we had Creepy Crawlers and Easy Bake ovens (electricity, hot metals), Science kits with all manner of dangerous chemicals, Lawn Darts... all eventually removed from the market. 🙃

      Given the recoil, doubt it would be dangerous. Maybe with a higher charge, a smoother barrel and a better fitting ball to build up pressure. But as is, little Timmy won't do any harm.

    The cannon looks great but I am glad you found the gunpowder residue first! Turning a new rivet and axle was a good idea and the gold paint pen really makes it stand out. Thanks for sharing this and I am always amazed at how nice and new looking everything you restore looks.

    Je découvre vos vidéos, c'est magique ! Quel travail, quelle maîtrise, quelle minutie... les bruits du ponçage, des vis rouillées qui tournent dans du vieux bois, etc, on ne s'en lasse pas ! Cela serait sympa de savoir le temps consacré par étapes; les techniques, produits et type d'outils utilisés pour les réaliser.... En tout cas, chapeau bas "the artist"

    I've seen someone do a nickel plate with a welder or something. The solution looked like it was boiling, and some vapor was coming off the electrode. Your approach is far less extreme yet still effective.

    What were toy manufacturers thinking! From that time period to today, some toys are being made that are dangerous to children. I do not understand why! Really great job at restoration......to keep on a shelf out of the way of children of all ages!😮

    Nothing like a lethal toy 😄. It does look beautiful. Air Rifles (bb guns) were banned in Australia decades ago for the same reasons. I hope you didn't Google "how to make gunpowder". 😊

    Two comments:
    - Only use a brass / bronze (non sparking) ramrod
    - Put a bit of steel wool soaked in WD-40 in the barrel after the wad - fun 😉
