  • Patient who underwent Thyroid Artery Embolization (TAE) for a thyroid goiter. ⁣

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫? An enlarged thyroid gland commonly due to numerous thyroid nodules.⁣

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? Routinely the entire thyroid gland is removed and the patient then requires life long hormone replacement. TAE is a non-surgical alternative treatment option. ⁣

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐓𝐀𝐄? This is a non-surgical treatment where a tiny IV sized catheter is advanced from the wrist to the neck. Microparticles are then injected into the thyroid goiter artery blocking its blood flow and causing the gland to shrink in size, improving symptoms. ⁣
