    Way for Juniper Model Y - the hatchback style boot opening will be very useful with family tasks and after sitting in a Highland Model 3, I’d definitely say it’s worth waiting for the update. So Juniper Model Y it is!

    I’m in a similar boat. We have a 2022 rwd model 3 with 90k and love it. We wanted to add a Model Y to our stable this year but the new model 3 is really making the decision difficult. 1st world problems

    Wait for the juniper model Y update. Financially it would make the most sense to hold on to your car longer and you will not feel like you are missing out one year after your purchase. You are not missing out as much as the hype makes it seem like, the juniper update would be the biggest upgrade to go towards, from the original model 3.

    We have owned our Model 3 Performance for almost five years now. We purchased a Model Y Performance for my wife in December of 2023. The discounts made it seem more appealing. We are happy with both vehicles so far. The Model 3 is faster and more nimble as we lowered it with Mountain Pass coilovers. The Model Y has some newer updates and more space. It is easier to enter and exit the Model Y. Accessing the trunk area is also easier in the Y. We felt that the discount’s outweighed us waiting for the refreshed Juniper Y. I would be open to trading my Model 3 in for the newer Performance variant if there is a big increase in power.

    Go for the 3, it looks better than the Y, drives better and has the later tech. I know you could wait for the new Y, but that does of course mean waiting for an unknown period of time. You currently have your 3, so if you can manage with the size of that, then it would seem a no brainer. For what it's worth, I traded my 3 in for an S P100D, same sort of money as a 3, but with air suspension, loads of space, similar tech (I know there are a couple of things missing, but nothing you would miss), lovely looks and 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds in Ludicrous plus mode. Not for everyone of course, but an experience! Thanks for your informative and subtlety amusing videos.

      We had a Model S as a loaner car before and the air suspension was lush! Loads of space too. It has crossed my mind for sure. Think I’d honestly miss getting some of the newer features including the latest features in the software updates.

      @@AdamWellinformed Thanks Adam, yeah I know what you mean, of course the S still gets regular updates. I think all I'm really missing is the boom box, the indicator cameras on the main screen and a couple of other things. It does come with enhanced AP as a no cost extra too. Anyway, sorry to distract from your original dilema between the 3 and Y - I have bought both the 3 and Y for my business sales team, the 3 seems more sorted IMO. We have Audi ans BMW too, the Teslas are much better!

    Do NOT expect the new Y juniper to be as affordable as the current Y.
    Sure, it will be restyled a bit, refreshed interior but to be fair it will not be mindblowing.
    The hardware will be the same (4.0) and not all changes are a benefit (no stalks).
    Currently the Y is to found at much cheaper prices, better financing and currently even a free Supercharger deal for 20K km's.
    Put that in perspective against a more expensive vehicle, no deals on launch, probably waiting times, no supercharger deal, no stalks ...
    Sure, the refresh is nice but it will wear off quickly.

    • @AdamWellinformed
      @AdamWellinformed  2 місяці тому

      That’s fair analysis, I agree this will be the cheapest point to buy a Model Y. But i personally think the new features will justify the same or more expensive price point 👍 So we have a choice at this moment of time

    • @Roomer645
      @Roomer645 2 місяці тому

      @@AdamWellinformed Well, i was intriques by the ambient lights in the Model 3 Highland. Come to find out you have hardly any control over them as for safety reasons they dim them at night so they hardly show while driving.
      I have seen people that used aftermarket ambient lights with better results.
      The stalks are better than the new buttons of the steering wheels. Sure, people say they get used to it but they are never more efficient and easier to use than the stalks that never fail.
      So you will most likely be paying a premium for the new headlights and rear lights as i don't expect many more added differences to the Y as they need to keep the price down.
      And again, they will NOT be giving all these price cuts, added perks anytime soon on the new Juniper model when they arrive somewhere early 2025.

  • @TSidez
    @TSidez 5 місяців тому +1

    If you require more space and this is your only car, the Y would be better for utility. If this is a second car, M3 all day. The real question is lease or buy. I’m really struggling with this as. As typical buyer, the numbers for me are working better to lease. It would almost be cheaper to lease for two years and if you still like, buy the same year and same model at the end of lease (in the U.S. you can’t buy your leased car….but you can probably find a similar car). Right now in the US APR for auto is 6-7%. W/ a projected 40-50% drop in value in 2 years, you’ll be underwater on your loan if over 5 years.

  • @edhirxtrastrange
    @edhirxtrastrange 5 місяців тому +1

    You can't go wrong with either. I went for the Highland as I want a softer suspension for my first EV but I will get the Y for my second car when the new version is out

    • @AdamWellinformed
      @AdamWellinformed  5 місяців тому

      Absolutely agree, they can’t tick everything box. There are natural advantages to each one. It’s only right that one model excels in one area then the other. It works both ways as well. How have you found your model 3 as your first EV? Did it meet expectations?

  • @savinayn
    @savinayn 6 місяців тому +2

    I’m in the same position in the US, with the additional factor of nearly $12,500 in tax credits making the current non-Juniper MYSR $5k cheaper than the Highland M3SR, and the MYLR is also cheaper than the Highland M3SR! But I’m not sure if the Juniper Y will qualify for these same tax credits. 🤦🏾‍♂️

    • @Redadunes
      @Redadunes 6 місяців тому

      No Junoer this year fro sure, it was announced a couple of days ago. PLus, when it will come out, there will be no incentives, just like with the current model 3 Highland. I am in the same boat. A MYLR is cheaper than a M3H. The sound system in the Y is amazing, not so much on the RWD M3H. I also found the model 3 very small and cramped. I am not sure what to do yet.

      @AdamWellinformed  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching. I’m not too worried about mini roundabouts. But the bigger ones will be the test. I think the people that make the s3xy buttons are bringing out a stalk accessory for the “classic” approach. Not perfect but something to bring it back.

      @ezpoppy55 6 місяців тому +1

      Quite the conundrum, eh?
      We have two boys, 14 and 16. When they were little, their gear took up far more space than they did! Strollers, bags with diapers and changes of clothes, bassinets, portable cribs… And that was just for a trip to the grocery store! 😂
      Now, although they have grown much bigger, they don’t require all that stuff. Pretty much just them, their backpacks… and that’s it.
      So, my M3 is a good fit for our family. Even going on long road trips of a couple thousand miles over a couple of weeks for vacation/holiday, the car has ample room in the frunk and trunk (boot) for all our luggage, leaving the passenger cabin just for, well, passengers!
      Plus when I’m not hauling around the family (which is by far more often than not), I get the pleasure of driving the much more fun M3!
      Best of luck solving your conundrum, Alex. 👍🏼

    I know why people prefer the Y, but I personally would never pick the Y over the 3 based on my personal needs/wants. I don't have kids. I prefer a lighter/more nimble car. I also don't like the idea of paying more for things I don't need. If you have a family the Y makes complete sense, but it looks goofy to my eye. I hope they manage to finesse the styling on the refresh to look less like an egg.

    i had a 21 plate model 3 then traded for a 73 plate model y and have now got a new highland model 3 and in my opinion i much prefer the model 3 . at the moment there is no contest as the new model 3 is so much more comfortable and quiter than the model y i traded in. i dont need the extra space so would not go back to the model y even when they bring the new one out. i feel that they model y is more of an echo and pressure chamber as the boot is not sealed and the rear seats and hatch creaked. a problem that tesla Winchester said is very common and could not be cured. im a huge tesla fan and have owned both and just find the model 3 a much better car design as the rear seats and parcel shelf being so integrated into the structure allow for a better sealed interior that i dont think the juniper model y will be able to rectify. saying that thought i do think strangely that the model y is better looking lol.. hope this helps

First I wanted the Model Y for bringing my RC planes, but the seating position in the M3 is much more to my liking and it's slightly cheaper for me. I can use my wife's car for the planes. Now the current MY LR has been discounted 4k and became about the same amount to lease monthly. Also I would probably highly prefer the new Model Y over the current one as it will probably look a lot better with the updated exterior design. Model Y Juniper will create a bigger moat with this update. People used to go with the M3 because better performance. But the M3 max speed is 125 and it doesn’t accelerate fast (relative to the current MY). So there’s literally no real reason to pick the 3 especially if the Y still gets the tax credit. Wait for the Juniper Model Y, you don’t sound in a rush nor absolutely needing a new car immediately now. Juniper Model Y would be a compromise between you and your wife’s wants and you’d both be happy when it comes out, while your Model 3 in the meantime is perfectly fine like you said. Although you mention both, your video tells me you prioritize “desires & wants” a lot more than “fiscal considerations”. The little details about how your current Model 3 likely has higher resale value now while still under warranty or that it may need new front tires soon or the control arms could fail right after the warranty expires… if that truly mattered most to you then you’d trade it in for a highland Model 3 now with no hesitation. Then when the highland Model 3 nears its end of warranty, you’d trade it in for the Juniper Model Y which will have been available for years by that time. But since you are hesitating, it indicates that your wants and desires are more important, and to also compromise with your wife… the Juniper Model Y is the answer (you get refresh upgraded features, she gets the larger space, and you can both wait).

    Wait for the new Y, then buy the current Y at like 30k... Win, Win, Win.

      It’s entirely viable when the new one is announced there will be some kind of incentive to shift the current stock. But on the Model 3 this was 0% apr in the UK. That’s the same incentives available now 🙃 There is no way in hell they are taking 33% off the price tag of their most produced car! Why would they sell them at such a loss? The other question is how long are you waiting for the refresh announcement? Some people don’t want to wait up to 2 years to tie in with AI5/HW5 timelines.

      @@AdamWellinformed Absolutely, you are correct there is no reason to believe that a person that has already dropped the price of a vehicle by more than 50% in a two year time frame, won't reduce it more! What the heck am I thinking right? Then again it's also kinda tight isn't it in the model X pricing to the model Y, like how do I fit in the new Y without dropping the existing price? Would you buy the old one for 5k less? I doubt it, I know I wouldn't. But hey ignore the situation and post your content to make your money bro, I'm not judging, just pointing out what you missed.

      You do realise the cost of production fell rapidly over that period, mostly down to battery costs? What you proposed was a 33% discount overnight. I believe Tesla’s gross margin per car is like 16%. But based on how they handled the switch to the Model 3 i just don’t see them offering such a discount to make a loss per vehicle. Even if it was a grand cheaper they’d probably still sell. That’s my two cents on the situation. It’s not gospel, we all make predictions some right some wrong. Time will tell

    I'm in the same exact boat ...but to make it worse, I'm being offered both the Model 3 highland and the current 2024 model Y for FREE!, yes free, as a company car with personal use allowed for a small fee. I love the convenience and the space of the Y, but I love the looks, ride, comfort, handling of the 3. So I decided to chose the model 3 and buy my dream Truck to take care of everything else I can't do with the M3. I realized that I spent 95% of the time in the car going places without the need for all the extra room. I also realized how much more comfortable it is to drive a sedan (saloon) than an SUV, van, or any high center of gravity vehicle.. Especially in the area where live..the roads are in poor conditions. I had a minivan for a company car before and i absolutely dreaded driving anywhere. not only it was so boring to drive, the ride quality and constant wobble of the van made me sick. I will never get another van again. So I'd say go for the 3 and enjoy 95% of your drives..and if the refreshed Y is to die for, then trade it in.
