I think the custom shop is making some of their best guitars ever as of late. I bought a new '68 reissue VOS LP custom black beauty a few months ago. It's been a destination guitar for me ever since I was a kid, and it didn't disappoint. I did rip the stock pickups out for some uncovered Seymour Duncan custom shop acquisitions, and I'm having it refretted with jumbo stainless steel frets later this year. Some might gaffe at that but I could care less, I bought it to enjoy forever as an almost 10 pound hard rock riff machine, and that it most definitely is.
That's what I would call the perfect top for a Les Paul. Not too thin or thick flame, perfect color and gradient burst. Just perfect in my opinion. Congrats!

There is a noticeable difference in the feel, response, sustain, tone, neck profile, finish, construction, and overall experience in my personal opinion. I don’t get the same response from the Epi LPs that I do from the Gibson CS LPs. And yes every component matters in construction. Anyway for less than $3k I have just an amazing instrument and it weighs 6 lbs. Anyhow have a great day. How are your thoughts our your guitar today. Did it break in well and sound change or warm up?
This is a great story! Thank you for sharing it with me. There is something magical about the 60s neck profile that I think is the sweet spot for Gibson guitars. I unfortunately ended up selling this guitar a few months ago because I joined a new band and needed to get some single coil guitars in my arsenal so I put the money towards the custom shop Strat and a custom shop Tele from LsL guitars out in California. But now I know what the benchmark should be for LPs to find one down the road!
There are worse ways to spend $ 7K. The R-0 is the best of the lot. I have had one for about 2 years now and it is the best Gibson I have ever played. Old guitars are great but the stuff Gibson is building now is impressive.
Paul Reed Smith is awesome! They aren't tied to the past like Fender and Gibson. I'm not knocking those two companies, but they have such a dedicated following for their classic guitars that it is hard to change them and update them without pissing off the fan base. I would take a PRS over Fender and Gibson almost any day because it is so hard to find a guitar by those two companies that is great. It is, on the other hand, really easy to find their lemons of which there are a lot. This is just personal opinion from experience though, so take it for what it is. I'm glad you found your dream Gibson. Also, like and follow The L.A. Maybe.
Congrats! One correction though, vintage les pauls and historic reissues do not fall in the 7 to 8 1/2 pound range. It is very rare to get Les Pauls under 8 pounds unless it’s chambered and that’s not vintage or historic… The average weight of a vintage 59 Les Paul was eight and three-quarter pounds. They generally ran from 8 1/4 pounds to 9 1/4 pounds with some a bit heavier and some a bit lighter. 8 1/2 pounds is still quite light for a Les Paul compared to the heavy years and that’s the weight I prefer!
I bought a $7K Gibson Custom Shop LP 1959 M2M. I was nervous. I will die with that guitar. It's absolutely perfect. My 1959 Custom Shop is about 8.5lbs. I was surprised how light it was. My Gibson Custom Shop LP Custom is 10lbs 2 oz. It also has amazing resonance and better sustain.
The lighter the guitar the more it resonates. Try to tell that to old folks (70 to 80 years old folks). When I told an old gentleman that he chewed my head off and told me that I made shit up. BTW beautiful guitar aesthetically and sonically. 7 grands totally worth it.
Beautiful guitar! The 1960 plays much better than the 59 unless you have lumberjack hands. Frankly, it plays better than most actual 1959 and 1860 LPs! Thank you for demonstrating your beauty!
Zach, I'm an old man and I can tell you if you get a Lester that is too light. It will sound like an SG. I find Lesters that weigh about 8.5 pounds to almost 9 pounds sound really good. YMMV and I won't be offended.
Why the hate? Anything that retains value is money well spent. Anything that increases in value, which this guitar will, is an investment. It’s rare that an investment is a physical thing one can enjoy. Well done. Fantastic instrument. Congrats!
Everyone has their own opinion on weight related to tone etc. In addition nice that this man has an extra $7,000. In his pocket to buy his dream guitar. He probably has small hands and needs a smaller neck. Many great players play on what he calls baseball bat necks. On and on . Play what makes you happy
to my experience, weight does not related to tone, but anyway, this guitar surely sounds great, especial the neck pickup, clear and warm sound, congrats!
Nothing wrong with buying a pricey guitar. I have played guitar most of my life as a way to buy groceries and pay rent. I use an 89$ Grote strat that has 33$ in aftermarket alnicos and a 155$ Grote thinline. I have used them for the last 3 years and they have worked flawlessly. If a guy is just havin' fun, he should buy what he wants. If a guy is trying to make music for a living and not have to take a day gig and endure 9-5 ish type folks who talk about their kids and kitchen renovation then keeping a low overhead in the music biz is essential. It can be as fun realizing you got invited back to that job and your total amp/guitar/wireless rig cost under 500$ as the fun of using some pretty cool and pricey stuff. A bit like " guitar survival" gig..
I’m on the same boat but she was actually happy when I told her I was selling 4 guitars to buy my R9. Bought it used for 4.4k and man, so well worth it 😊
Between 8.5 to 9.5 is the most popular sweet spot les paul weight... On the other hand.. If the 70s heavy les paul guitars that the rockstars used were dull toned due to the weight... Why in gods name are we all trying to emulate the sounds that they created with them...? They used heavy weight but we need light weight to get their sounds.. That doesn't add up.. Even Slash says too light is too diluted for his velvety lead tones and fat rhythm sounds.
Oh please. The weight of the guitar has nothing to do with the resonance. Your acoustics or semi hollow are loud because they are hollow. Not because they are lighter. And if you like LP so much you should have gotten the modern LP cause those are chambered and super light and by your logic most resonant.
My Novo Serus J was around 6 pounds and had no chambering, and it was the loudest electric guitar I've ever played in terms of acoustic volume. My Serus T was similar so they're doing something right.
$7K would buy a lot of drugs in some neighborhoods. But I should talk...paid over that amount for a Steeler helmet autographed by Bradshaw, Harris, and Fuqua.
That guitar is a work of art with sound to match. Being a tele player for many years I recently purchased a Les Paul Standard from Epiphone. Needless to say I am quite pleased with it. That’s quite investment you’ve got there. Please don’t drop it. :)
Absolutely beautiful gorgeous sexy guitar. My ultimate Les Paul is a 59 Black Beauty with triple pick ups. That's the top of the line guitar for me. I'd playing a Marshal 2225X Silver Jubilee amp.
Dont let anyone tell you how much money you wasted, life is too short to play shitty instruments. If that thing makes you happy its way more valuable than some numbers on a bank account.
I think you would have been better off with a nice aged heritage h150 for $4500. I liked the chorus tone, but the rest lacked was dull. My iconic reference tones for a LP: still got the blues , still of the night solo, riding the storm out live solo, sweet child of mine. And metallica Hetfield chunking .. in this demo, you didn't crank it. The whole lot of love part, you didn't really get it going. Be more aggressive with it
Great video of your guitar but I disagree with what you send at the end. A Telecaster and a Les Paul sound nothing like each other not even remotely. Different woods, pickups, etc….and Steroids are not going to bring there sounds any closer… lol.
.......if you're value is "light" guitars, an idea for one of your video could be to compare your £7,000 Gibson with a Vigier, vee zhay.......a female equivalent of you, Mary Spender, who does guitar reviews on UA-cam, says a Vigier is her favourite guitar......&i I remember a guitar magazine reviewer describing Vigier as the lightest make of guitars, electric guitars.....I'll watch out for you doing that.
Fellas, before you go out and drop that kind of money on any Gibson, understand one thing. These guitars will NEVER be worth what you paid for them in the long run. Why? There's just too many of them. Gibson is churning out these guitars by the thousands. Are they well made? Yes. Are the materials good quality? Yes and no. For that kind of money, things like bone nuts should be standard. But, they're not. At the end of the day, no matter how much they're made to look old, these are new guitars that are made from new materials with new construction. They are made to look old and "vintagey". But, they're not. If you're in the market for a guitar that will be worth more than what you paid for it, there are things you need to look for. 1. The guitar cannot be new construction; 2. The guitar or model has to have a good story; 3. There's can't be a million of them; 4. The guitar or its model line has to have some kind of historical significance. For example, the 1986 reissue of the Les Paul Junior. Not the 1987 or any other model year after 1986. Only the 1986 model is collectible. If you want to know why, message me and I'll explain. Its too long for here. Find a guitar that has most or all of these characteristics and you will have a guitar that's collectible or will be collectible. Stay away from anything that had the words or is marketed as: "Custom Shop" or "Reissue" or "Murphy Lab" or "Signature" They are overpriced and will never be worth what you paid for them.
Agreed from a reselling standpoint. If this guy paid $7000, he’d be lucky to sell it for $4,000. Was under the impression that the custom shop guitars have more old school hands on building to them… unless they’re just cranked out from a computer controlled machine like the USA models. I’ll have to research the 1986 LP jr. Although seems like only guitars made in the 50s will be the only ones ever worth big bucks
@@lovesgibson Most are made on a CnC machine. Some may have hand-carved archtops. But, that's about it. Because of this fact and because Gibson is no longer owned by Juskiewiecz and is owned by an equity firm, the Norlin Era models are going to become quite popular and desirable in the near future. As the public starts to realize the modern Custom Shop and "Signature" guitars are not worth the money, players will turn to the Norlin Era instruments. Watch and see. Cheers!

But now I know what the benchmark should be for LPs to find one down the road!
Very nice. I don't notice much of a difference between my R9 and R8, in neck size. You need a Snorlax, too.
That would complete my Five Watt World section of the studio haha
There are worse ways to spend $ 7K. The R-0 is the best of the lot. I have had one for about 2 years now and it is the best Gibson I have ever played. Old guitars are great but the stuff Gibson is building now is impressive.
It's definitely better than 7k in chocolate bars 🤣
Beautiful video! What is the Color name of the guitar? Many thanks!
I wish I remembered, I wanna say the hang tag said Tomato Burst but I'm not 100%
@@ZackSeifMusic thank you!
Good video!! thanks ☺
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful I hope you have no regrets personally it my Favourite instrument! ❤❤❤❤
Many thanks my friend!!
I have a 1999 Les paul standard bought it in 99 for $900 it rocks good luck 👍
That’s awesome! Bet it plays like a million bucks. Thanks for watching.
That's a nice les paul brother, and u even got some strat sounds out of it.
Very versatile!
Love Burst LPs with a killer flamed top, but I hate covered pickups and pickguards. Black/creme pickups a must with a naked top. Perfection.
Love my Gibson Wildwood R9 Les Paul
Those are GORGEOUS guitars. Congrats.
Thanks man
I know you mention weight. Mine tops at 8.84 lbs.
Maybe.
I still love my 24-08, it’s just the roughest looking axe I have despite being the second youngest after the brand new Gibson :/
That’s sweet guitar my dad has a GO 1960 VOS custom shop Gibson plays great
Sounds like a great guitar!
Totally! Historic guitars are historically and Correctly replicated of vintage guitars, thus, are not supposedly light by design.
Beautiful guitar!
Thanks a lot!
How did u go from the mesa back into axe fx 3. Without putting a load on speakers?
I have a two notes captor on top of the amp, and it's still plugged into the Mesa cab just set to low.
That's awesome to hear!!
I got my R0 18 years ago and it's 8.2 lbs. I paid half of what you paid. You have a beautiful Les Paul.
That's amazing, I WISH they were half price these days ahah. R0s are incredible.
I would love to have a Gibson eds 12-75 and 58 Les Paul
Great guitars!!
The lighter the guitar the more it resonates. Try to tell that to old folks (70 to 80 years old folks). When I told an old gentleman that he chewed my head off and told me that I made shit up. BTW beautiful guitar aesthetically and sonically. 7 grands totally worth it.
Has the main finish of the guitar been rubbed to make it look older / hasn't got a deep shine?
Yes that's part of the aging process!
Holds tune and sounds pretty good. 😊
That's all you really need!
Beautiful guitar! The 1960 plays much better than the 59 unless you have lumberjack hands. Frankly, it plays better than most actual 1959 and 1860 LPs! Thank you for demonstrating your beauty!
Couldn't agree more!
Zach, I'm an old man and I can tell you if you get a Lester that is too light. It will sound like an SG. I find Lesters that weigh about 8.5 pounds to almost 9 pounds sound really good. YMMV and I won't be offended.
Love it!!
Thank you!!
My favorite LP would be the 1981 Silverburst LP Custom that I stupidly sold back in 1996. Yes, I was an idiot!
That’s gotta be worth a pretty penny these days! There’s always one that gets away.
I personally think your guitar looks well worth it.
Do you recall what a Les Paul custom from the CS would start pricing at?
I do not unfortunately. Every spec and option is different. I got this one from GC already spec'd.
Not a bad choice at all! Before Peter Frampton was reunited with his Phenix guitar, his main LP was an historic R0.
They play so well!
Nice!
Thank you for watching!
to my experience, weight does not related to tone, but anyway, this guitar surely sounds great, especial the neck pickup, clear and warm sound, congrats!
Many thanks!
I have an R9. You don't need too explain. Yours is a bit bright looking for me. I'm a lemon drop tragic. It is pretty though.
I got to play an R9 a few days before this and it was a ringer as well. I enjoy them a lot, the R0 is just better suited for me personally.
@@ZackSeifMusic was there that much of a difference between the 59 neck and 60s neck?
I think I'll stick with my fender performer lool, just kidding, your guitar is the best les paul I've ever heard, amazing.
It's good to have different tools for different jobs!
Absolutely beautiful guitar, personally I prefer the 50's baseball bat neck, mainly because I have giant hands!
Thank you so much!!
Enjoy!
Many thanks!
Why’d you buy it? Because les Pauls are f*kn awesome 😎
100%!!!
Not in a million years would I be able to spend $7000 on a guitar. My wife would probably divorce me. 🤣
Unless you got it used ;)
I’m on the same boat but she was actually happy when I told her I was selling 4 guitars to buy my R9. Bought it used for 4.4k and man, so well worth it 😊
But you’d have the Les Paul, might be a good trade 😂
nice lookin les paul, 7lbs... same for teles and strats
Mine clocked in at 8.5 pounds exactly which is great for me
@@ZackSeifMusic 8.5 is perfect IMHO
I have a beautiful Quilt Top that looks as good as it can and plays perfectly.....8.24 lbs... Yours is almost as nice as mine,,,(-:
That’s a great weight!
Where are you finding 7 pound Les Pauls? And weight relieved doesn’t count.
$7K would buy a lot of drugs in some neighborhoods. But I should talk...paid over that amount for a Steeler helmet autographed by Bradshaw, Harris, and Fuqua.
That's a solid buy for a Steeler's fan! Black and Yellow \m/
My 'studio' sounds the same ...
I love Les Pauls! I’m selling my guitars now to buy more bitcoin, but I can’t seem to sell my Les Pauls. 🐸🤪
Great guitars for sure!
That guitar is a work of art with sound to match. Being a tele player for many years I recently purchased a Les Paul Standard from Epiphone. Needless to say I am quite pleased with it. That’s quite investment you’ve got there. Please don’t drop it. :)
Dropping it is definitely a no-no 😂
You bought it coz you wanted it and could afford it, enjoy
Thank you
Absolutely beautiful gorgeous sexy guitar. My ultimate Les Paul is a 59 Black Beauty with triple pick ups. That's the top of the line guitar for me. I'd playing a Marshal 2225X Silver Jubilee amp.
R9s are better in my opinion, the neck isn't that much thicker and they hold their value better
Because it sounds so different to all the other Les Pauls! Gibson took you for a fool!
Dont let anyone tell you how much money you wasted, life is too short to play shitty instruments. If that thing makes you happy its way more valuable than some numbers on a bank account.
Couldn’t agree more my friend. Cheers🤘
Be more aggressive with it
And frehley: kiss alive 2. King of the nighttime world.. keep rockin
Great video of your guitar but I disagree with what you send at the end. A Telecaster and a Les Paul sound nothing like each other not even remotely. Different woods, pickups, etc….and Steroids are not going to bring there sounds any closer… lol.
Norlins dead 😂😂😂 my 74 LPC is a 10lb and it ain’t dead!
.......if you're value is "light" guitars, an idea for one of your video could be to compare your £7,000 Gibson with a Vigier, vee zhay.......a female equivalent of you, Mary Spender, who does guitar reviews on UA-cam, says a Vigier is her favourite guitar......&i I remember a guitar magazine reviewer describing Vigier as the lightest make of guitars, electric guitars.....I'll watch out for you doing that.
1. The guitar cannot be new construction;
2. The guitar or model has to have a good story;
3. There's can't be a million of them;
Cheers!
😳🤯🥺
😵😵😵
Tone is in the balls
It really is
