Assuming you are referencing application of the compound the pattern is not the issue as much as the fact that the product does have to be worked into the surface with some (moderate) pressure. You also only want to do about a 2X2 ft area and then immediately wipe off because you don't want the product to dry at all.

I just started using your products about a year ago , 2021..... I Live in SW Florida and wax about once a mth , with your wax in the marron canister ,, how often should I wax to keep this hot sun from damaging my paint? Any product recmmendations?
How long any wax/protection lasts is highly variable and depends on a number of factors including the environment the vehicle is exposed to. That being said, for most daily drivers we recommend you wax at least 3-4 times per year. As far as the best protection you would certainly be better off with one of our newer waxes like our Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax (link below). In some cases you could get away with this but most of the time it is going to be safer and more effective to use foam applicator pads to apply product. 1. Yes, a one bottle of compound should be enough to do a few cars. 2. We cannot speak to the condition of your clear coat without evaluating it. If it is past the point of mild-moderate oxidation and is nearing or has reached actual paint failure the shop may be correct in their assessment. 3. Not sure how to answer that without more specifics as to which two products you are hoping to compare.
My car is 15 years old with faded paint. I used the compund and have seen some improvements. However, where the paint is faded, it appears blotchy. I assume this is normal for a car this old?

An orbital buffer can save time/energy while applying products more evenly but the results will likely be similar to hand application. A good DA (dual action) machine is where you start to see quite a bit better performance especially when removing defects.
Do a panel or two in each session, take your time and do it right, next session do a few more panels, before you know it you will have a show quality finish
Without knowing the severity of the swirls and scratches or how hard your paint is that would be difficult to answer confidently. That being the case and the fact that swirl marks and scratches are often more stubborn than you might suspect we would typically recommend Ultimate Compound. It is more effective while still being very safe and easy to use.
How long can the Ultimate Liquid Wax last if I use a pressure washer to wash my car every weekend? The pressure washer is a 2300 PSI 1.48 gpm electric Sun Joe on 40 degree fan tip.

You first need to determine whether you are dealing with oxidation or the paint is actually failing. If the paint has already failed the only remedy is repainting. Here is a great article that covers the 5 Steps of Paint Care which has a lot of foundational information you will find beneficial. When you have a few minutes give it a read through. s.3m.com/2u2ay4
No, could do it on multiple days but before you proceed to the next step you would need to ensure the car is still totally free of dirt, dust, etc. so you may need to wash again or at least wipe it down with a mist & wipe detail spray.
@meguiars I have two small very minor bird dropping stains. I don't believe they're etched. They appear to be two minor dull spots, which are only noticable in certain angles in light. Can I get away with using just the polish/ wax. Or do you guys have another product that may work better?
Not sure what you mean by "regular" soapy water. We certainly do not recommend you use just any soap / dish washing detergent. You really should use the included Quik Detailer as lubricant or another approved detailer mist and wipe product.
Could be related to the condition of the vehicle but keep in mind the compound should not dry at all. You want to apply to only 1-2 sq ft at a time and then wipe off immediately. Also make sure you are using a good quality microfiber towel to remove the product.
Not sure what you mean? Ultimate Wax is a wax it is not necessary to put anything else over it. If for some reason you want to you should wait 24 hours for it to fully cure but again putting another wax on top may not have the benefits you are assuming it might.
A compound is used to remove defects in the paint, so the real question is do you have swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etc.? If there are no defect in the paint you would not need to compound.
We may use the term "polish" differently than you do but if what you really mean is how often should you compound that depends entirely if you have defects in the paint you want/need to remove. For most vehicles compounding once a month is not necessary but you should also be aware that effective but safe compound like our Ultimate Compound can be used many times with no concern.
I have a car just 1 month old. It has swirl marks all over the paint. Can i use the compund? How often we should use the compound, Monthly/Quarterly/Annualy?@@meguiars
Polishing is often an optional step. Depending on the color and condition of the paint it may or may not have a big visual impact. That really is a personal decision you will have to make based on those things as well as you personal desires for your car. So yes, it is possible to go right from compounding to wax.
No, once it's done you only ever want to compound or polish if it really needs it and has lots of scratches, as every time you do you are removing clear coat as they are liquid abrasives. Wax it every six months if you use the Ultimate or Ceramic, and wash as normal otherwise.
Polish is designed to create a high gloss/shine with polishing oils. It does not protect at all. A wax is your protection against the elements although waxes often have some polish in them as well.
Good video 👍 How many passes in the 2foot by 2foot area with each prodruct ? And can i compound with your microfiber pads also? Greetings from the Netherlands 😎
There is no magic number of passes but usually at least a couple. Depends on what product you are working with, how quickly it is drying, how bad the defects are, etc. Keep in mind it is better to do multiple applications if necessary rather than work the product too long.
Not sure what you mean by "same results" but yes the Hybrid Ceramic Waxes will offer even better protection and water beading than the Ultimate Wax. You could certainly choose one of them to replace the use of Ultimate Wax if you like.
not too sore, a few breathers, but 4 hours with Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and Ceramic Detailer, on my dark pearl blue Outback cost me badly sunburnt head and arms, but boy it looked amazing. Wife asked me if it was worth it, i nodded, but maybe an MT320 machine and sun-cream would be better next time 😁😁😁
Another question: after I compound do I need to clean that area with m122 before I polish or is just a wipe down with a microfiber fine? I know I need to spray the surface after I polish before a sealant.
That Ultimate Compound is absolutely great. I live in Finland just bought a second hand car in winter. As I made a "spring wash" it had scuff marks and little scratches here and there. Also under the door handels it was horribly scuffed. The Utimate compund made it all gone. If you don't have a machine polisher, it's OK as the Ultimate Compund is easy and fast to use by hand only. Of course deeper scratches are impossible to cure, but the compound makes them look better also.
I have used the ultimate polish and really did a difference the car paint was fine but with small swirls scratches and the coating lost some shine but using it with a orbital polisher did a great difference now have a mirror like shine as just picked out from car dealer .
Hello, love the video. When I compound/polish each 2x2 section how many sections can I use with that same pad until I have to clean it? Or can I keep using the same pad throughout the compounding/polishing phase. And if I have to clean it, what is the best way to clean the pad before going to the next section? Thanks
Typically when applying products by hand with a foam applicator pad you do not need to clean the pad during the job; however if you feel there is some kind of contamination on the pad you can certainly grab a new/fresh applicator pad and use it. Once done with the job you can wash the applicator pads in your washing machine just as you would your other towels.
in this video, it would have been nice if there was a "before and after" shot of the paintwork. Especially with that fancy LED to showcase the paintwork's imperfections prior to correcting.
How long any given wax lasts can be highly variable and depends on a number of factors including the environment it is exposed to. Generally speaking for a daily driver we recommend waxing at least 3-4 times per year but in some cases, on a well-maintained vehicle, they could certainly last longer.
How often you need to clay or compound is related to the condition of the paint at any given point and the environmental attacks the paint faces in your particular situation. You only clay when you have bonded contaminants stuck to the paint. You only compound when you have defects (scratches, swirl marks, water spots, oxidation, etc.) in the paint It is also relative to how well you maintain the paint between waxing. If you maintain the car well you will likely not have to do all 3 steps every time you detail/wax your car. And as it relates to how long a wax will last... How long any protection/wax lasts is highly variable and depends on a number of factors related to the condition of the paint, previous prep, and the environmental elements the vehicle is exposed to. In very general terms we recommend the average person wax their vehicle 3-4 times per year and often at least once a year will include the full process. Hope that helps!
Greetings from Egypt, I just ordered ultimate compound , ultimate polish and mirror glaze 26 , it took 23 days to arrive from USA , pretty much enthusiastic to detail my Nissan versa , my question is, what is the recommended time between each stage of the whole process? Thanks
Hi, I first polished with the Ultimate Compound, then polished with Meguiar's Polish. Before I go on with the Ultimate Synthetic wax, do I need to wipe down the car with IPA/degreaser/wax remover to clean the polish residual? Thanks!
My case : 1. Parking outdoor, get sun, get rain, no shade at all 2. Silver colors 3. I don't have polisher I love to makes my car always shiny. My question: 1. What the best meguiar product i need to have for silver colors? 2. If i do that 3 steps as the video, how long it will be last? I saw some comments 3 - 4 times a year, i actually do wax every 2 weeks without compound and polish, just wash and wax 3. How about product for glass and tire? Can i just use that wax for it? Thanks
UK here, I’ve just used all those products on my MK1 Golf Gti and it looks amazing however, once the sun came out you can see hazy makes across the bonnet, why is that and what have I done wrong? I don’t have any swirls or anything like that just a hazy like marks.
Tough to say without understanding what these "hazy marks" are. Please feel free to reach out to our Solutions Hub via our website. If you can provide more details and pictures one of our surface care experts can likely help you diagnost the situation and formulate a plan of attack.
That depends entirely on the condition of the paint and your desires for it. Compound is only used when you have defects in the paint you want to remove.

Do you compound the whole panel first after all the 2by2 sections THEN apply the polish to the whole panel... or do one 2by2 and apply the polish straight after?
Not entirely sure what you are asking here? If compounding and polishing you should first compound the whole car (or section that needs it) working a 2X2 area at a time and wiping off immediately before the product has a chance to dry. After you finish compounding the entire vehicle (or the affected areas) you will do the exact same thing with the polish.
Can Meguiar's Ultimate Compound be used if vehicle was washed with Ultimate Wash and Wax? Also, how long should one wait after using Ultimate Liquid Wax before attempting to use Ultimate Compound in an area where there are scratches/swirls?
Yes, you can use Ultimate Compound after washing with Ultimate Wash & Wax. Ideally you would compound before waxing but if you already have Ultimate Wax on the surface you can certainly still use the compound as it will strip the wax as you work.
I’ve been using Meguiars professional version (the ones in the yellowish bottles with the 2 digit #s. I have the compounds in the polishing bottles in the CarNuba wax) for close to 15 years. How does that compare to the “ultimate” Version shown in this video ? I still have my orbital dual action buffer with Meguiars name on it and the Maguires black bag. I bought this kit between 15 to 20 years ago. I still use it to this day that dual action polisher is incredible
Not sure which exact products you are asking to compare but generally speaking the Ultimate Compound is likely more effective and the Ultimate Wax, being a purely synthetic sealant, will also protect better/longer. It also has the added benefit of not staining the trim white. To discuss more specifics about your exact product lineup and vehicle please feel free to reach out to our Solutions Hub here... s.3m.com/l6vp4
Understood, but it is difficult to give specifics when trying to compare an entire line. If you want to talk through specific product comparisons please feel free to reach out to our Solutions Hub as mentioned. 👍
Okay, so it all began with my purchase of a 3100psi pressure washer, and now I've gone down the detailing rabbit hole. I bought your clay kit, Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, and Gold Class Canuba Plus liquid wax. Not to mention a cordless orbital buffer/polisher. Once I'm done, what do I wash with for the next few weeks? Like I said, I've just purchased a pressure washer, so the first thing I went out and bought after that was a foam cannon and half a dozen jugs of Ultimate Wash and Wax. Will that be okay on top of the Gold Class wax protection?
A compound is used to remove defects in the paint, so the real question is do you have swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etc.? If there are no defect in the paint you would not need to compound.
It really depends on the condition of your paint and how hard or soft it is. A good DA machine is going to achieve better results and in some cases be necessary to adequately remove defects. If you are simply spreading wax either method is fine but of course the machine might help you spread it more evenly and will certainly save time and energy.
I have made these steps a couple of days ago. The result is great, but if I check the car with lamp I see white patches where the compound or polish isn't removed completely. They cannot be seen in sunlight. How can I remove it? I have also used ceramic spray on it. :(
If you have product residue you missed during wipe-off you could do a few things to remove it including the use of a good all purpose cleaner, dish washing liquid & water, or even simply reapplying the compound it those areas again. Keep in mind any of these things will strip the wax so you will likely want to reapply wax in those areas after removing the product residue.
Greate Videos.....Please help me... I have a new car and have very very light surface defects. Do I need to use "Ultimate Compound" or can I skip it and only use "Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze". Could I only apply the "Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze" for a longer time (or apply many time) to achieve the same result as using both?... Thank you!
You can certainly try the Ultimate Polish but keep in mind it is primarily a polish and has only minimal defect removing capability. In many cases, especially if the paint is harder, you will need a compound to remove even light defects. There is also no reason to fear Ultimate Compound as it is very safe and easy to use.
Not sure which specific product you are referring to? Although the two waxes featured in this video are synthetic they are "waxes" in that they are your final step offering protection. Not sure if you are asking if you need a 2nd wax in conjunction with one of these? If that is your question, no that is certainly not required.
The shelf life for most of our products is 3-5 years if stored in a temperature-controlled environment. That being said if you shake it well, pour some out, and it is still a nice lotion like consistency you are good to go. Products can very often last quite a bit longer than even the shelf life. When they separate and do not go back together after shaking well then you know they are no longer good.
Which product do I use first for swirled and oxidated aftermarket paint? You aren’t supposed to compound an entire vehicle are you? It’s only for spot correction and Polish is for doing what I need prior to wax right?
We cannot speak for the other steps possibly required without knowing all the details surrounding the current condition of the paint as well as what exactly it is you are hoping to do for it. That being said to remove oxidation and swirl marks will require the use of an effective/safe compound like our Ultimate Compound. Although in some cases it may not be necessary to apply to the entirety of the vehicle most of the time that is exactly what you should do and is not something you should have any concern doing.
It is never ideal but often as long as the panel itself is not hot to the touch and/or the weather is not extreme you can get away with this. For application of the compound and polish you want to make sure the product does not dry at all so you may need to work a smaller area and wipe off more quickly.
I just got all 3 and a portable buffer. Do I have to use a different pad when going from compound to polish then to wax or can I use the same one? May be a dumb question but I'm learning here. Please and thank you

"Turn the towel over to a clean side for the final wipe". How 'clean' does that side need to be? A 100% - unused - clean side for each small section?
There is no % to this but it should be very clean and mostly dry.
Do you need a new microfiber towel for every 2x2 section?
No.
After applying ultimate wax to seal, when can I start with regular waxing again.
Not sure what you mean? Ultimate Wax is a wax it is not necessary to put anything else over it. If for some reason you want to you should wait 24 hours for it to fully cure but again putting another wax on top may not have the benefits you are assuming it might.
I applied ultimate wax 3 months ago. Should I wax/compound again before I put ultimate wax this time ?
A compound is used to remove defects in the paint, so the real question is do you have swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etc.? If there are no defect in the paint you would not need to compound.
In a month, how many time we should polish it? my car paint type is soft paint

Is polish mandatory after compound or we can do compoumd and wax..??
Polishing is often an optional step. Depending on the color and condition of the paint it may or may not have a big visual impact. That really is a personal decision you will have to make based on those things as well as you personal desires for your car.
So yes, it is possible to go right from compounding to wax.
@@meguiars how often we should use compund
Compound is used on an as needed basis to remove defects in your paint such as scratches, swirls, oxidation, water spots, etc.
Hi. A quick question. Do I need to repeat the entire process every time I need to wash my car? Thank you!
No
No, once it's done you only ever want to compound or polish if it really needs it and has lots of scratches, as every time you do you are removing clear coat as they are liquid abrasives. Wax it every six months if you use the Ultimate or Ceramic, and wash as normal otherwise.
Wax it every month if you want the absolute 100% best protection
Thanks a lot!! ☺️
No. Compound is typically done only on an as needed basis, polish is often optional, and your wax is going to last a lot longer than just one wash. 👍
What is the difference between a wax and a polish
Polish is designed to create a high gloss/shine with polishing oils. It does not protect at all. A wax is your protection against the elements although waxes often have some polish in them as well.
Good video 👍
How many passes in the 2foot by 2foot area with each prodruct ?
And can i compound with your microfiber pads also?
Greetings from the Netherlands 😎
There is no magic number of passes but usually at least a couple. Depends on what product you are working with, how quickly it is drying, how bad the defects are, etc. Keep in mind it is better to do multiple applications if necessary rather than work the product too long.

Is it possible to use the spray on hybrid ceramic wax instead of the ultimate wax, or the ceramic liquid wax, and get the same results?
Not sure what you mean by "same results" but yes the Hybrid Ceramic Waxes will offer even better protection and water beading than the Ultimate Wax. You could certainly choose one of them to replace the use of Ultimate Wax if you like.
I think my arm would fall off if I did a multi step all by hand.
Certainly nicer to have a machine! 😃
not too sore, a few breathers, but 4 hours with Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and Ceramic Detailer, on my dark pearl blue Outback cost me badly sunburnt head and arms, but boy it looked amazing. Another question: after I compound do I need to clean that area with m122 before I polish or is just a wipe down with a microfiber fine? I know I need to spray the surface after I polish before a sealant.
You typically do not need to use a surface prep between steps just wipe off throughly and proceed to the next step.
Is there a need for the ultimate polish to cure before applying wax? If so, how long?
No, not at all. You can just proceed right to waxing. 👍

Can i skip the ultimate compound step and just wash, polish, and wax if my paint is in good condition? I already clayed.
Yes, if there are no below surface paint defects (scratches, water spots, oxidation, stains, etc.) you can skip the compounding step.
Great video! Question. If you've never waxed your car before, how often should you wax it? Would fall and again in spring be adequate?
How long any given wax lasts can be highly variable and depends on a number of factors including the environment it is exposed to. Generally speaking for a daily driver we recommend waxing at least 3-4 times per year but in some cases, on a well-maintained vehicle, they could certainly last longer.
How often should I do this 3 steps on my car paint?

Hi, I first polished with the Ultimate Compound, then polished with Meguiar's Polish. Before I go on with the Ultimate Synthetic wax, do I need to wipe down the car with IPA/degreaser/wax remover to clean the polish residual? Thanks!

2. Silver colors
3. I don't have polisher

I applied ultimate wax 3 months ago. Should I wax/compound again before I put ultimate wax this time ?
A compound is used to remove defects in the paint, so the real question is do you have swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etc.? If there are no defect in the paint you would not need to compound.
Do i need an orbital polisher to do all this or can i get similar results by hand?
You can get similar results by hand. It just takes longer.
It really depends on the condition of your paint and how hard or soft it is. A good DA machine is going to achieve better results and in some cases be necessary to adequately remove defects. If you are simply spreading wax either method is fine but of course the machine might help you spread it more evenly and will certainly save time and energy.
Meguiar much?
Take a shot every time he says Meguiar's.
@@meguiars thank you! The all purpose cleaner worked :)

So if I use this product, waxing is optional?
Not sure which specific product you are referring to? Although the two waxes featured in this video are synthetic they are "waxes" in that they are your final step offering protection. Not sure if you are asking if you need a 2nd wax in conjunction with one of these? If that is your question, no that is certainly not required.
Anyone know long these compounds and polish expire? Bought mine back in 2020 and only used it once lol still have it.
@@meguiars you're the best! Thank you
Which product do I use first for swirled and oxidated aftermarket paint? You aren’t supposed to compound an entire vehicle are you? It’s only for spot correction and Polish is for doing what I need prior to wax right?
We cannot speak for the other steps possibly required without knowing all the details surrounding the current condition of the paint as well as what exactly it is you are hoping to do for it.
That being said to remove oxidation and swirl marks will require the use of an effective/safe compound like our Ultimate Compound. Although in some cases it may not be necessary to apply to the entirety of the vehicle most of the time that is exactly what you should do and is not something you should have any concern doing.
Can we use these products under direct sunlight?
It is never ideal but often as long as the panel itself is not hot to the touch and/or the weather is not extreme you can get away with this. For application of the compound and polish you want to make sure the product does not dry at all so you may need to work a smaller area and wipe off more quickly.
I just got all 3 and a portable buffer. Do I have to use a different pad when going from compound to polish then to wax or can I use the same one? May be a dumb question but I'm learning here. Please and thank you
Yeah... Different. Can compound using wool pad or yellow pad, then polish using orange pad or blue pad, then wax using black pad or red pad
Yes, you want/need to use 3 different pads. One for each product.
