In the old DOOMs, your time would turn to "SUCKS" if you went past a time of 59:59 in a level. And I should know, I was stuck on a level for that long.

    • @SeekerMissile

I have a thing for secrets, so I usually don't leave the level until I find every one of them and in Doom 4 they are pretty hard to find.

I always find speedruns like this hilarious by imagining it from enemies' perspective. Just imagining what's going through the demons' heads while they see this dude in a green power armor jumping around and strafing like an asshole, and sometimes disappearing into walls.

Load times aren't limited by just hard drive, it also helps a whole lot having an overclocked 4790K lol The processor is taking the data from the hard drive and building the whole level, so its effect on load times is huge as well.

Fabelaz Nyan Stawp it, I'm blushing. As for tool assisted speedruns, I feel like it's removing a certain degree of skill, that would otherwise be present. Ultimately it is a level playing field, so there really isn't anything wrong with them. There not "fucking lame" that's just me defending my beliefs that I think any% speedruns are better. I let my ego get the better of me. Forgive me. I'm still very much a work in progress.

Edward Marshall As long as you respect opinion of others, its fine. And it's not like our disagreement is something horrible.
Besides, I too enjoy any% more that tas. Though, to be fair, I just enjoy them in a different way as I don't feel that tas's existence devalues any% runs in any way.

    • @jellelliott
      @jellelliott 8 років тому +1

+Edward Marshall The TASes that glitch to the end credits are usually anticlimactic and lame, so I hear you there, but usually they list it as a "game end glitch" or "no major glitches" tas which is separate from other any% TASes for us. I love watching 100% TASes though. Some of the brutally slow stuff that the tas has to endure is funny and I love to see it go as quickly as possible and sometimes I even learn from 100% TASes.

+shotgundude93 how about a honest speed run, anyone ever fucking think of that, anyone actually speed run the game as in completely beating the fucking game, the way it was intended, showing people they have true skill and that they have what it fucking takes, people who take short cuts through everything and say, "hey guys, I got the world record speed run on doom!". "oh yeah? how did you do it?". "fucking glitches bro!!! haha"
difference between skill and learning some glitch part on the map and the order of spawning for the enemy's

+Kevin McClelland they do have skill the fucking fact that he barely got touched and beat bosses in 2 minutes or less shows you can fucking play. speedrunning is an alternative playstyle once the speedrunner has become bored of the base game and wants to speed through everything. its fun as fuck and the fact that he can speed run ultra nightmare means he can play ultra nightmare. honest speedruns happen, but aeent fun to watch, you ahve go clear everything and not bunny jump as fast as possible is boring. they tried it, dont like it. it also is very niche to particular speedrun fans. look them up and youll see what i mean.

I agree the guys a bit arrogant but, I would argue that nothing in this video could be considered cheating. Using weapon blowback to boost yourself is a common trick in a lot of games and climbing out of levels to create shortcuts is a fault in the game. If someone decides to exploit that weakness well that's just the means to an end in order to win. Not saying I agree with it 100% and I would of preferred to see him traverse the game like the rest of us but, he found a way around it, what can I say?

That is actually precisely what happens over at speeddemosarchive, speedrunslive, twitch and other speedrunning sites.
Most games that can be glitched during a speedrun (i.e. it won't crash the game), also feature a "Glitchless" category. Glitching mostly means manipulating the game in a way that was clearly not intended, while skipping items/areas is simply known as Sequence Breaking - which is generally allowed/encouraged.
Many viewers are bound to not realise that categories even exist, and falsely assume that glitching or exploits is the only viable form of speedrunning. It is simply a category, and there will be other speedrunners doing glitchless runs. On the off chance there is no glitchless category for the game you want to view or speedrun, then create that category. Be the first! It's just games, and we're meant to enjoy them, after all :)
((Just gonna leave this here from a thread on reddit on the subject of exploits in speedruns.))

Well its saying "I completed this game soo fast" - oh but you didnt actually play most of the game. So imo its not the game your beating but a fraction of it. So in my book it doesnt count as a full run.

    • @MrRobin39
      @MrRobin39 7 років тому +124

Scrimjaw "So in my book it doesnt count as a full run."
Hey look, yet another person who knows absolutely nothing about speedrunning! The any% category literally means that you can complete any percentage of the game and it will still count, just as long as you can get to the title screen. The world record time for super mario is just 37 seconds, because someone figured out how to edit the assembly code in-game and trigger the end screen credits immediately.
The reason this category is so popular is because finding and taking advantage of these out of bounds style exploits takes far more creativity and skill than simply mastering the basic mechanics (which he clearly has mastered, seeing how fast he can kill everything).
Occasionally the end result might be confusing or ugly looking to a layperson not versed in the mechanics used, but someone with a basic knowledge of speed-running can generally recognize what's going on.
If you want to see a full run without weird glitching, look up a glitchless run. Glitchless runs are generally much longer and, in my opinion, far more boring, but they seem to be what you want. They also exist in their own category, so there is a separate world record time for a glitchless run of DOOM 2016 out there somewhere.

Haven't watched, but I'm gonna have to take back the times I said UN is impossible to beat in such a short time :P

I mean, margin of error is smaller there, but physically impossible? I think that was a stretch :P

It's impossible to beat, just possible to glitch the way through.

"It's impossible to beat" ... Me every time I try UN on a controller

      Well, glitchless runs prove otherwise.

do these glitchless runs beat it in 1 hour?

This is so interesting to me. I like seeing things the devs didnt think most people would even see. Also, speed running is a definite talent. No way I could do it. Im not coordinated enough.

How do you even begin to look for those glitch points in the levels?

In Team Fortress 2, You rocketjump

Dam your pretty good at this game haha. Im playing on medium and I struggle from time to time. Nice glitches though, I always wonder how the hell people even figure those out in the first place. Really cool to see what you can warp/bend in a game.

It's a bethesda game, you can just play it and find them. As for the crazier glitches, OOB and a bit of trickery can get you far

Not quite right my friend. Bethesda are just publishers, id software are the one that developed the game.

This is the first time I've seen a speedrun of doom(4) and holly hell you did this beautifully considering how you beat the game in the time I beat 3 levels

People are salty because of the fact that he used glitches and certain parts of maps to beat the game so quickly.

Well most likely due to the title not saying glitch-less like other speedruns. Causing confusion. And no not all speedruns use glitches.
