I knew there was something about him in sharp , googled him & this last week I,ve been humbled by his voice & the quality of his songs , it,s blown me away
He shot a fair few Frenchman as Rifleman Daniel Hagman on Sharpe but I would rate him far higher for his music than anything else. A rare voice and yet not very well known to the public, their loss really.
This is so beautiful.I have only recently discovered John;a wonderful singer I am Irish and have the greatest respect for the great English folk singers June Tabor Kate Rusby and now John. The Irish Group Planxty include some lovely English songs in their repertoire.Music unites us
I imagine this song as it might have been done by The Byrds --- by which I mean the original FIVE Byrds --- and I get chills just thinking about it. Great song, and a great rendition here in John's exquisite voice!
@@v1e1r1g1e1 OK...that clinches it. I have to at least to try to create the Byrds-ish version I can so clearly hear in my head every time I hear this. I can do a pretty good McGuinn and Crosby in the studio, but I'm really going to have to work on my Gene Clark voice. He was unique, and his voice is the hardest to approximate. He was the soul of The Five Byrds.
@@Vito_Tuxedo Looking forward to hearing it. I think McGuinn as lead vocals on a cover of Over The Hills is the right way to go. Snare drum opening. Acoustic argpeggio and sparse bass for verse. Crosby and Clark coming in as harmonies on the refrain (''refrain'', rather than chorus, I think, for this song?). 12 string guitar kicking in also on refrain, perhaps? Not that I'm a producer by any means... but, oh my, do I look forward to hearing your version! -😁
Yes England we do have an INCREDIBLE heritage, but it's being shoved under the rocks and totally diluted, thank God I'm a Geordie and still have a heritage and history to cling to. Come on you lot grow a pair and reclaim your history, stop the PC.
Englands heritage is sadly best not remembered. The united kingdoms behaviour in their colonies from india to ireland was one of mass murder, rape and theft. The horrors of what was done cannot be honestly taught in english schools hence forgotten. Thanks for reading have a nice day.
@@brianmccarthy4193 Would the Russians Germans Spanish or French have run India better? History stands our colonies prospered and were left far better services and government than other empires. The local vices and horrors we suppressed were often far more violent and abusive than what England did.
@studmalexy ? what has that got to do with his music? & no I dont think anyone but stilone and that karate guy with long hair...um segal - has done that? WHY?
In a just world, this man would be a hell of a lot more famous.
His voice, a gift of God.
Well done James
When I saw him act, I knew he'd be super talented!
Best English Folk artist. Often overshadowed by the Celtic folk on these islands but this is awesome.
As an English Briton thank you for that comment... we share so much in our folk music in these Islands.
@@tubemagpie its a beautiful song that is for shore
This Man is A Legend , Swift and Bold .
I can't explain, it but when this man is singing brings tears to my eyes.
Just rediscovering this song. So beautiful and poignant.

I just did the exact same thing yesterday and wow I'm blown away from the rest of his music.
A soldiers balladier - he sings it like it is - for those at the front.
Me too! A late discovery. Reaches the heart!

Edelwulf Karlsson I totally agree. Well said.
The problem lies in the English belittling of their own culture and their worship of others....
Thankyou for posting. I'm now totally switched onto John Tams. 😊
Lovely English songsmith. His voice is a dream to listen to.

I'm so with you on this one! If only we had a time machine. Absolutely love the Byrds (the original line up)

It does'nt get must better than this. The tune is actually by John McCusker and John added the words. First time I've seen him in a tie !!

We've always been a mongrel nation. Nothing to dilute. Proud to be English.
Jim Fell too late. Those days are no more . Who will make Britain great again? Not any politician or party currently in parliament. Maybe one day.....

@@brianmccarthy4193 this is totally false. The British Empire was great. Amazing. Something to be proud of in spite of its faults.
