    I know from experience that nothing is worse than hope betrayed. . .
    Concerning academic writing, so much of it is not really to communicate ideas to others so much as to employ keywords and jargon as a kind of status signalling. . . although sometimes specialized vocabulary can be useful to convey specific notions/ideas compactly, in academia it is oftened used as other means of gatekeeping. Paulo Freire's _Pedagogy of the Oppressed_ comes to mind here in that some of the words are somewhat specialized in nature, yet the text reads so easily. The comment by the translator about how her young son read it and not only understood it easily but commented about how this man he'd never met was writing about him was quite striking. . . .

      Is Planned Obsolescence White Supremacy?
      Where does LSE talk about the depreciation of durable consumer goods? Where is Demand Side Depreciation in the Net Domestic Product equation?
      If Black people do not know enough about technology to figure out if planned obsolescence is happening then what sense does talking about White Supremacy make?
      White people just aren't smart enough to figure out that planned obsolescence is just a high technology form of slavery. Constantly going into debt for junk designed to become obsolete.

    It doesn't start with the Enlightenment, though. The roots are in Greek philosophy. All major Greek philosophers were in support of slavery.

      The Greeks did not invent slavery, slavery was around for the entirety of human civilisation. Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt practised slavery long before Ancient Greece even came to be. Slavery was never tied to one particular race. nor did the concept of race as we know it today exist in the ancient times. The term 'slavery' actually hails from the Arab enslavement of Slavs. And of course Greek philosophers supported slavery because literally everyone did at the time. All religions did too. It was not until the 19th century that mankind came to realise that owning people was immoral.

    • @lepidoptera9337
      @lepidoptera9337 11 місяців тому

      @@tekkencentre I didn't say that they invented it. My point is that Greek philosophers did not have the humanity nor the intelligence to realize how destructive the concept is to human society. Why would I trust people who were mentally so limited in both ways?

    • @tekkencentre
      @tekkencentre 11 місяців тому +1

      @@lepidoptera9337 Did you not read the rest of my comment? You would be hard-pressed to find anyone opposed to slavery before the age of enlightenment. Slavery was a basic fact of life back then. If you judge historical figures by present-day standards of morality, then nobody would be good enough for you to listen to. There is more to their ideas than slavery, just like there is more to Christianity than its condonation of slavery. That is why you can be a Christian today and not support slavery.

    How does planned obsolescence relate to White Supremacy?
    Where does LSE talk about the depreciation of durable consumer goods in relation to planned obsolescence? Going into debt for junk designed to become obsolete is a high technology form of slavery. There were 200,000,000 motor vehicles in the United States in 1994. Where did the depreciation go? Where is the data? Aren't economists into data?

    • @reih6256
      @reih6256 9 місяців тому

      Perhaps these are questions you could look into answering yourself. It’s only an hour and a half long lecture. But using common sense I can tell you that planned obsolescence forces people to rely on shitty consumer goods that could not be produced that cheaply without relying on modern slavery. It’s almost as simple as 2+2
