  • Bloomberg London: Workplace of the Future" chronicles the journey to design and build the world’s most sustainable office building in the heart of the City of London. This building sets new standards for sustainability and innovation, and raises the bar for future office buildings around the world. The space energizes employees, clients and visitors, while encouraging a new level of productivity. Designed to facilitate collaboration and fuel innovation, it brings Bloomberg’s 4,000 London- based employees under one roof for the first time.
This 500,000 square foot office sits on a 3.2 acre plot of land surrounded by buildings of incredible architectural and cultural significance. Located between the Bank of England and St Paul’s Cathedral, the site is steeped in over 2,000 years of history and sits on top of one of the UK’s most significant archaeological sites at the heart of what was Roman London’s commercial center - the Temple of Mithras.
Conceived by our founder Mike Bloomberg in collaboration with leading architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the building’s design is sympathetic to its surrounding context, an exemplar of sustainable design and uniquely of its place and time - a natural extension of the City that will endure and improve its surroundings. Designed to complement the historic neighboring structures and to age gracefully with time, Bloomberg London is the City of London's biggest stone project in more than a century. To construct a building of this size to the design brief, there were many complex first-of-its-kind design challenges to overcome. The film takes us on a journey as the architects try to navigate the revolutionary engineering required. We also travel around the globe with them as they seek the finest materials and craftsmanship needed to create the inspiring, innovative, dynamic and collaborative workplace that embodies Bloomberg's core values.

As an entrepreneur & small business owner, this was so inspiring to watch. The power of what an office space means to a business that cares about space is somewhere where people can connect and inspire each other to do their best work. This Bloomberg head office is absolutely breathtaking. I love how they respected the surroundings while building a space that will empower their employees.

This is an intelligent way to think about your company. "It is not the most efficient use of space if what you´re trying to do is to reduce your square foot cost - I think it is the most efficient use of space if what you´re trying to do is to enhance the productivity of the people." 21:05

The breathing building of letting air flow in small slits and exit from roof is so common in buildings in cities where its very hot and humid and who cannot afford ac’s . These open circular workstations and workspaces are sold by various companies since a decade now. Also excavating 7 floors and building biggest piles and concrete below itself is using unnecessary energy when you have open space upwards, how can these concepts be called sustainable. Using Sandstone and Carrara marble itself in a humid city is a question, it is used only in dry areas. Only marketed with very big words called sustainable very well here in the video.

The people designing the layout of the building all have private offices but constantly go on about the value of open offices which are now going completely out of date. The whole idea of collaboration within open spaces is a complete myth. More work is done when people have private spaces where they're not easily interrupted or distracted.

Excellently designed and beautifully executed piece of work as would be expected from Fosters. But looking at Mr. Bloomberg’s often shy and hesitant eye movements in the video, they seem to be asking in earnest : Norman, honestly, how much has it gone over budget?

Future workspace is desks... under stairs? And meetings literally behind 5 peoples desks so they can't concentrate when you're having a meeting? Looks to me like a workplace designed by a CEO for a CEO. Maybe its just me but I don't like people behind me walking/talking when I'm trying to work at my desk.

Interesting presentation but pure corporate bullshit. Bloomberg hasn't got a clue how much it was going to cost to build except of course paying a huge bill to construct it. Lets be honest this corporate headquarters cost an absolute fortune to build. Acknowledging the presence of the ancient Roman Road through the site is admittedly a clever idea but it's execution into a retail pedestrian passageway is rather poor given the limited access to the 'commercial' space. The various air handling systems are to say the least quite costly and complex and will require constant maintenance for the life of the building.
The operable exterior air vent system, which I assume is motorized, are also a very costly maintenance item. Sometimes simple solutions to a problem are better than new technological inventions! Anyway it's built and they'll have to live with it for quite some time.

    2. Anyone who has Bloomberg terminal immediately gives his location; on or off state and work timings to Bloomberg.
How can we then think open holes and spaces allowing sunlight coming through with the actual organizational work culture? We cannot.
