I work for a locomotive shop and bought this and did a head to head bolt removal with a 3/4 air impact and we were all impressed the Milwaukee put the air to shame

Today i bought this. To bad didnt paid to much atention and picked one with the biger head . But i see i will not lose to much power because of converter to small head. In the end its amazing, time , health saving tool. Yesterday was stuck with brake caliper bolt for 30 min +(almost knocking my teaths out because of accident without this tool) . Then i borowed this one and it took me 2 sec to do the job. LOVE THIS MACHINE !!!

It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

David Slone I was just thing, pneumatics may always have their places in trenches and places where there is water, sparks, mud, sand, dust, mines, etc. But yeah for many other uses, hard to dismiss current gen cordless tools.
I work on big trucks, I can tell you this thing is a beast. It wont remove truck lug nuts that have been on for a while, but im not surprised, sometimes the one inch air gun struggles. I have a Snap on mg725 air gun, this thing blows it away, no contest.

I used my 1/2 m18 for changing truck tires that were put on with 1 in air gun on 3 in and out of the landfill all day work never had an issue. I work for the gaswells now as a mechanic everyone has the 1/2 and love them I want the 1in Milwaukee.

I love mine. I use it forbelly pan bolts and just about everything.i been doin transmission updates on CAT d8t doers. And I use this thing to remove the winch bolts belly pans and darn near everything. I did 2 back to back before I needed to charge my big battery. I am getting the new 1 inch gun as soon as it available

I'm a master mechanic boiler maker for company STARCON and this impact 3/4 drive is flawless, perfect.
Man, this gun looks pretty strong, i wished i would of waited on my brand line (dewalt). I own the dcf 899 1/2 inch, which is pretty strong, but after seeing this video, just makes me want to go to milwuakee...lol . My craft is boilermaker in the refinerys, so i used to loosen up big bolts. So far the dcf 899 can break bolts up to 1 5/8. Just an fyi for the people out there.
Jesse Lopez Jr I was originally going to compare this tool to the DeWalt but decided last minute not to. It is hard to compare tools when they both complete the same task, just one tool is faster. When we are not in a scientific setting, putting these two against each other would have been tough. I will say that the Milwaukee has a good amount more power. It is evident while using the tool.
Can you test this Milwaukee against the Ingersoll Rand w7152? They are equal in torque output & I think this is would be a good match.

I've got military vehicles with 1 1/2" lug nuts. I've always done this by hand.....hmmmmm. Pretty expensive helper just to do that, but in a shop I can see this working well.

Does “custom torque control” stop the tool when the torque is reached like “lugnut control” on the 2863, or does it control the speed of rotation?
It stops it and you can pull the trigger again to have it impact more.
Hello sir did you face any heatin problem with that tool . I've bought one for my store but if the lug nut is Rusty the tool can't keep working so making shutdown i think it's because the overload usage is that normal please let me know. ❤

Also, I heard that the tracking system only works if it's in range of a smartphone with the app.
It will still have the 3 modes without one key, but will not be able to have the user adjust what the modes do. Correct on the smartphone with the app.
On the one key app what torque control setting did you use when fastening the lug nuts on the semi truck?
For the trailer we found that full RPM, no slow start and 13 was perfect.

Ordered mine yesterday. We have to do a cylinder head replacement campaign on 12 & 16 cylinder marine diesel engines. The 12's have 48 head bolts per engine and the 16's have 64. We're in confined space, so hopefully this tool is up to the job. I'll follow up with a real world review within a few weeks.
You should have zero issues getting those off!
We'll see. They're torqued in six stages ... the fourth stage is 200 nm (about 147 ft. lbs.) then two turns of 90 degrees each for a total final turn of 180 degrees. It works out to just under 300 ft lbs. They are lubed with engine oil as per the manufacturer's procedures. We have to use a torque multiplier (1/2" in, 3/4" out) to get the final torque turns as the confined space prohibits use of long tools.
Here's the rub - the head bolts are about 18 mm diameter X 210 mm long (fairly long bolt) but the head is only 19 mm. Our experience has told us if a bolt has a large head to diameter ratio it is easier to loosen with an impact tool. If the diameter stays the same but the head gets smaller, the impact will struggle. I'm a mechanic, not an engineer, but I'm thinking there's a leverage factor with a larger head that works in our favor. Imagine a line from the center of the bolt to the farthest point on the bolt head. On a large head it will be longer, it will shorten as the head size decreases. Kind of like trying to use a 12" breaker bar to loosen a stuck bolt vs a 20" bar. Longer = more strength. I'll be VERY impressed if this gun can do the job.

*UPDATE* I finally got to put it to the test today on one of the 16 cylinder engines (16 individual heads, 4 head bolts per each) Not only did it remove all 64 head bolts, it did it on one fully charged battery (5 ah) and that battery still showed 75% charge afterward. To say we were quite impressed is an understatement. Until I purchased this, my go to gun was the IR W7150 1/2" 20V. The IR is no slouch but just wasn't up to this task. To be honest this was my first Milwaukee purchase as they are currently the only major player to offer a 3/4" cordless impact and I had my doubts. I don't do the fanboy thing but I gotta say at this point in time I'm happy. We'll see how it goes after a summer of these head replacement campaigns we're underway with. We're off to a good start.

Is the leveling Linear? Like: 1200 Ft Lbs for fastening. So, 20 level setting total. So Level 10 = 600 Ft. Lbs. Level 8 = 480 Ft. Lbs and so on......?
Why do people always remove the outer lug nuts (the easy ones) in these videos? The inner square nut is usually the tight one.. hell, my 1/2" gun with a 1 1/2" socket will remove the outer nuts.

It comes as no surprise that the 3/4 impact would be able to remove lug nuts from a rim on an 18 wheeler. Even the 1/2 Milwaukee impact wrench will do that much.
The idea is that heavy machinery/diesel technicians will most likely use 3/4" drive and larger impact wrenches & sockets for a large-size variety of nuts and bolts, whereas automotive technicians will have 3/4" drive tools optional if they work on large vehicles, i.e. half-ton to 1-ton trucks.

Hey man, I have been doing some research and I came across your video, and I feel that you are the perfect person to ask this question, will a 2863 impact fit on the case of a 2864 impact, I’m curious because I want a carrying case for my impact, but it’s been hard to find a empty case for sale for the 2863 milwaukee, but I found one for the 2864, I’m hesitating on buying it just because idk if it will fit there

A 1" would probably take off those scraper blade nuts. I wouldn't really expect it of any 3/4. They just don't have a big enough hammer.
Not the pistol grip Milwaukee probably, but any air one with a good supply or the new D handles from M & I.
These might be good for vehicles but they don't get the ft lbs I had hoped. We ordered one for torquing bolts and it wouldn't do more than 500 ft lbs

Deep. They are heavier and will be able to apply more torque with an impact.

@@danielboone94 If you’re encountering fasteners of that size in an auto shop and at home, a 1/2” will do just fine with them. If you’re dealing with that size on trucks or other heavy equipment 3/4” is the way to go.

Idk why it didn't take off those cutting edge nuts on that toy skidsteer, I've taken the bolts off cutting edges of CAT 950 and 966 over the winter with the 1/2in 2767. And when u finish tighten them u use a tool and a sledgehammer to make sure they tight
That cutting edge has been on that machine for over 10 years and it is also used to load salt in the winter along with being used every day each summer. They were beaten up bad!
WorkshopAddict 3/4 - 7/8 bolt size are tq to 475-750ftlbs that should've taken off with ease. I've taken off bolts that were completely worse off, no shown threads and a nut worn down where I had to smash a socket on with a sledgehammer

I just noticed you said you used a 5ah battery you should try and do the scrapper with a 9 ah battery as you’ll get the most power out of the gun with the 9ah not the 5ah
Island JK Productions Agreed. The 9.0 would be my choice for this tool. Milwaukee sells it in a kit with two 5.0 batteries and we wanted to test it as people would buy it. After the fact, using a 9.0 in a few situations to judge power would have been smart. I honestly do not think anything will love the nuts on the scraper. We will try at the end of this month with a 2,100 ft lbs impact and I will place money they don't budge.
Well kinda, an electric motor will only draw what it needs as far as amps go. So if that's less than the max amp output of the battery than your fine. But the 5.0 battery will definitely provide more than enough amperage so the 9.0 battery would just last longer obviously the 2.0 battery on the other hand will definitely under amp the motor.
Amp hours is not irrelevant due to how cordless tool batteries are made. Your small batteries (say a 1.5 or 2ah) are made up of 5 18650 batteries in series. Now those batteries have a maximum amount of current they can safely output. Lets say they can output 10amps in short bursts.
Now lets go to the next stage up and add a second layer of 5 cells paralleled with the first. Now you have say a 4ah battery. While you cannot double the 10 amp output due to heat issues you can probably go to say 16-18amps out.
If I had to guess I would say they are using 2 stacks of 2500mAh batteries in the 5Ah's and 3 stacks of 3000Ah cells in the 9Ah batteries.
Bryan, early in the video you mentioned 1/2” tool with just a 3/4” anvil.....when I read about the 3/4” & 1/2” impacts on DeWALT’s website, that’s what has been done between their DCF897 & DCF899 tools, correct? If that’s the case, what’s the point?
The point would be not to have to use an adapter that will take away power.

It works well on excavators, so I am sure it would excel there. In many ways, if you are working on those pieces and need large impacts, one would normally choose a 1" pneumatic.

Depends on what you work on. If you work on trucks or heavy equipment it will pay off to have the 3/4”. If you do automotive the 2767 will be fine.

@@engjds Are you asking about the 3/4”? If so, it’s about a 50/50 split in my experience. On automotive applications it will remove pretty much everything. On big rigs it will struggle if the fastener has years of rust and corrosion build up. I regularly pull yoke nuts (both clean and new as well as old and shitty) with it and it does just fine. You might have problems pulling leaf spring bolts and U-bolts if they’re REALLY rusty.

Hit those lug nuts with a 1 inch air impact for about 10 seconds each. That cordless M18 will not bust it. 450 to 500 ft lbs is all you need on big rigs.
Been looking cross UA-cam to find out 500lbs torque setting on 3/4s... Guess what.. Nothing. So I tried 8, than ad to 9...After Retorque. Find out it's not close to 500. So I guess Setting 10 is about 450lbs. Which is minimum for semi bud wheels
We don't know what it tightened to, but we're going to estimate it wasn't 1200. Why? Well, we dont have an answer or any real basis for our opinion.

I have this impact and the dewalt xr 1/2 high torque gun. i ran a 1" bolt in and layed on it with the 3/4 wrench and was able to remove it with the dewalt. i was using a 3/4 drive impact socket, so i had to use a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter on the dewalt. even with that adapter it broke the bolt lose. the dewalt breakaway torque is supposed to be 1100 ftlb. the milwaukee tightening torque is supposed to be 1200 ftlb. so either dewalts claims are underrated or milwaukees claims are overrated. also mind you the dewalt had 2 bars on the 6ah flexvolt batt and has been used in an industrial environment for the last 4 years. the milwaukee had the 9ah battery full bars and is brand new. i also experienced an irregular knocking/clacking noise toward the pinnacle of the milwaukees impacting (if that makes sense) i did this comparison over and over and same reults. i will say the dewalt had to fight, sometimes 7 or 8 seconds of impacting to break the bolt lose, whereas the milwaukee zipped it right off.
I am unsure Milwaukee has a tightening torque to 1200...

Dude the dewalt xr is bad man. The company I work for has them for pipe flanges. Anything in half inch it can do up to like 400 ft lbs. When you put a reducer on it (3/4 to 1/2) its pathetic. Now the Milwaukee fuel on the other hand with the reducer we have remove 1 1/4 inch studs (2 inch socket) rusty and torqued to 600 ft lbs in 3 seconds of impact. There both underrated, dewalt more then the Milwaukee.
What is difference between 2864-20 and 2864-80 the are both 3/4 anvil and look the same
The 2864-80 is a reconditioned unit. Probably not worth the money to buy it. You’re better off paying another $40 and getting a brand new one with a full warranty.

I have the 1st generation 3/4 inch gun. I got it approximately 2 years ago. I've abused the living h*** out of this tool. Every bolt that I've taken off was like a mission impossible. But after 2 years of abuse it had enough of me. The tool stop working and started to smoke out of the top. I will be replacing it with the new generation.

They didn't change anything on it they just used 3/4 anvil instead of 1/2 once you go to larger anvil will get a little more power even if the motor is same
I am sure the motor is the same and I do agree with you to a point. They did change the metal housing up front a bit. Its not just an anvil change.
Wouldn't the front housing be different for the 3/4" anvil mechanism anyway? Like you said, they probably just bolted the 3/4" front section onto the existing 1/2" One-Key handle/motor. I don't see where it matters though. The specs are what they are regardless of how Milwaukee did it or what parts they decided to reuse. :-)

What the heck my HD only had 1/2' i want a refund or a 3/4 instead of 1/2
Those wheel stud's are 5/8 and should only be tentioned to 450ftlb. Mine will do them up and you might get 1/8 of a turn with the torque wrench before it reaches 450ftlb

No what they meant is 450-500 is the torque range for the lug nuts basically 650 is over torqued and can reduce clamping force for the wheel

Good question, and they are “at least” 650 ftlbs...who knows...maybe 1000 ftlbs,... be gentle on my luguts.
Why wouldn't you just get the new 12 a/h battery?
Pretty sure it hasn't been released yet, and it will be crazy expensive when it is ($200). The 9.0 has come down quite a bit ($100ish street price) and would make more sense to go that route if cost is a concern. It also won't give you a big leap in power, just longer hammer time before the Redlink control shuts it down due to overheating.

It fits well on ours. I believe Jeff might have trimmed a slight amount, but that is your only option that we know of.
ATTENTION. ...Milwaukee is coming out with a 1 inch drive impact. ...it will be the most powerful impact ever for the biggest sockets out there....check it out !
RAM TRUCKS I can't wait to see how it works, but I still like to use a 3/4" impacrlt when possible as sockets are more affordable.

5.0 battery they make a 9.0 and now a 12.0 battery.
Actually I'm not very impressed considering the half inch drive has 1400 foot pound of nut busting torque. Considering it's a three quarter inch impact gun it should have a lot more torque than a 1/2 inch
Anybody out there use this 3/4 impact to crush a 12bolt or 65-79 corvette Crush Collar ,I would estimate you need 400 to 700 ft lbs to start crushing these rear end crush collars ,the laugh a most 1/2 air impacts
We did our 70 with the 1/2" M18.......
I use half drive impact to take off lugs from semi wheels not that impressive my half drive is matco
