If you go on the Matterport site it has a list of compatible 360 cameras. I’ve linked it here. Looks like it’s up to the Insta 360 X2, so your pro is unfortunately not compatible. They do update regularly, so I’m sure you’ll be able to use it soon. matterport.com/cameras/360-cameras Thanks for watching.
They actually have support for the Insta360 X3, but very annoyingly STILL don’t have support for the X4. I had to return my X4 because I expected after multiple months of release they’d have released the firmware now but unfortunately not for the X4. They’ve been saying they’d update since the camera came out but still have never fixed it so your best bet is the X3
Great info. Quick question; I just got back into this but with the iPhone and axis... seems like each time I do an exterior 360 scan, the (return to the interior 3d) (man walking - puck) is no place near the house I am scanning... its across the street or on another house... I think I have started my 360 scan with my camera pointing at the house or away from the house but it seems it's never correct. Thx
I too sometimes have this issue. You can change the direction the exterior faces once you have placed it on the plan. It’s a circle with arrows pointing both directions I think. Sometimes it doesn’t show up how you have changed it in you edit, but I’ve found when you open the live tour up it is facing the correct direction. I think it’s a bit of a bug in the software. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Hi, I had one question among others. Is it possible to reduce or remove the blur at the tripod foot (which is added automatically)? If I make my virtual tour directly from the Ricoh Theta application (my camera model), there is this blur between each shot.
Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way of removing this. I know other software providers have the option to add your own logo instead of just blur it, which would look much better. It’s something Matterport should perhaps take a look at. Thanks for watching and taking your time to comment.
@@jonathanshilton Noted, thanks for your detailed answer. Since this is not available on Kuula (to take the example of another tour host), I was wondering if Matterport has the same flexibility or not (we may see if they will amend this)
Yes, I use the camera fully on auto when shooting in Matterport. I don’t think you can enter the setting manually if shooting through the Matterport app. Correct me if I’m wrong though! Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊
You can blur it out using the blur tool when editing. I don’t think you can completely remove it. Blurring is what I do in this case. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I await your response please Is there a way I can upload the photos from my computer, You can retouch the photos, that is, lighting, contrast and so on.
Unfortunately you can't edit the photos in terms of lighting or contrast and you can't upload photos not taken with the Matterport app. Everything has to be shot and uploaded using the matterport app. This makes for a quick work flow but doss have the drawback of not having the editing capability you might find using software such as Kuula. Thanks for watching
Yes, if you hide a selected scan it means it won't show in the tour. This is handy if perhaps you have done too many scans and want to get rid of some, or perhaps your reflection is in the mirror and you don't want it included. It doesn't delete it, so you can always reinstate it if needed. So it is a very handy tool. hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting
I am working with a company, I use Kuula. The truth is that when I take the photo from Insta 360 I want to make my own modification or something similar, in how many functions both programs have their pros and cons, I mean in my case there is no winner, it is to offer the services as far as the client's reach is for the monthly subscription
It depends if you want a quick work flow or more control over your images. Matterport is very user friendly and quick to work with but you have little control over how the final images look. Kuula, you can edit your photos before uploading them, but this is obviously more time-consuming. Price might also be a factor, as you might find Matterport expensive if shooting a lot of spaces, but then you will be earning more. Personally, I like Matterport because of the quick workflow, and my clients like it too. Just make sure you have a decent 360camera otherwise it can look pretty bad. I suggest the ricoh theta z1 or the insta 360x4, unless you can afford matterports own cameras, the pro 2 or pro 3. Thanks for watching!
Yes, it does work with Matterport. When linked with Matterport however, thr camera shoots at 18MP. This is not the case with the new X4 which uses the 72MP. I have just posted a video about this. Thanks for watching
I don't own the insta x4, so that's the main reason I have never used it. My only 360 camera I own is the Ricoh Theta Z1. I don't like to shoot videos with this for my interior work or UA-cam videos, as you have to convert 360 video files in to a usuable format. I think this is easier with the insta app and editing software. The Osmo pocket 3 is just a great camera for convenience and shoots great qulaity video for it's size, that's why I use it for some of my UA-cam videos and also shooting some sections of real estate videos with agents.
I would alway keep them closed as they usually look messy, so not great to view in the tour. I don’t use Matterport for floor plans, so it might be something to consider if you need the floor plan from the scan. Thanks for watching!

Hi Pierre, I’m not using the Insta 360 to shoot with as I use the Ricoh Theta Z1. When shooting in Matterport it just uses the automatic HDR settings, so I imagine it would be similar for the Insta 360. You might be able to change how many photos are included in the HDR image to help with exposure. Thanks for watching!

Hi, thanks for watching and taking your time to comment. Sounds like you might do well if not many people are offering it in Dubai yet. I only use Matterport for virtual tours, and this software does all the processing for you, so it’s the easiest to use, but offers great results. As a beginner, I would go with this for ease of workflow. Matterport is also an industry leader in the field, so I find clients like to use it as they have heard of it. I’ve not done a lot of manual processing the HDR images for 360 tours, so I won’t be doing any videos on this for now. As I say though, you would be fine to use Matterport starting out to achieve professional looking results to send to the client.
The Pro 2 will give you a better quality image. It just comes at twice the price of the Ricoh Theta Z1 and is also a lot bigger and heavier to carry around. It’s fine if you’re only doing virtual tours, but if your shooting photos too, it becomes a bit bulky to carry around. The Pro 2 is a great bit of kit though, so I’m not saying don’t get it. Just a couple of things to consider. Thanks for watching!
@jonathanshilton that sounds great!.. for my idea how much time does it take to create the tour? I like to spend less time behind the desk if possible 😅
It’s best to have it set to HDR, as you will get better quality photos, as it will expose several shots for the outside and inside and merge them together. If you just shoot in single shot jpg, the windows will probably be over exposed. Sorry I should have pointed this out. Thanks a for watching and all the best with the tours!
I think the Insta 360 cameras are only compatible up to the X3 at the moment. You might want to check with them though, as they constantly updating. Their website currently only shows the X3 though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
All comes down to how much you charging and how busy you are. The Insta 360 X3 cost about $400 plus the the cost of the Matterport subscription. Up to 150 scans costs about $115 p/m I think. You’d start making a profit after shooting just 3 or 4 job’s depending on your pricing structure.
I’ve never produced a floor plan using Matterport as I draw them manually, so I couldn’t comment on the accuracy. I imagine they would be pretty good. I guess there’s no way of telling until you compare it to one you’ve drawn yourself with the dimensions. Sorry that’s not much help. My main jobs include photos and floor plans. I only shoot a few of these each month, that’s why I draw my floor plans. I might do a video soon on how I produce floor plans soon. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@jonathanshilton Thanks for your response man. Would love to see your process on making floor plans. Do you use a laser measure for the measurements then?
@@samanshp yes, I use a Leica Disto laser measure and sketch the plans on squared paper. I then send the sketch’s off to be drawn up by a company in India who send it back to me the next morning. Costs around $3-5 per plan up to about 1500 sq ft.
