Thomas Muller is another one of the more underrated players in the world. His brilliance on the pitch can be missed by the untrained eye, as his interpretation of attacking moves and his understanding of space creates plenty of opportunities for himself and his teammates. We’ll go over his numbers, his Raumdeuter role that he created, and how he compares to some of football’s elite talents.

I don't mean as a slight, instead as a praise: Muller is the worst looking genius I've seen.
As a brazilian, his style of play seems an anathema, if you watch only the highlights he looks almost lost in the field, yet he's consistently on them and contributing, even if it looks like he and the ball don't have a loving relationship as most genius do.

That does not get noticed because of his misses in front of the net and his physical decline, i hope he will score much more this season so that finally more people will take notice of his level after 2019.

He has a very high muscle/fat ratio and has incredible stamina. Those type of bodys are not the fastest but can press all day long and are very injury resistant. i dont think so at all...because hes german. There is inherent racism in Europe against Germany and the Germans. Because they are too strong, too threatening...the same kind of hate seen in schools against, people that always get good grades without learning and somehow always still are good at sports nonetheless. I dont mean to say that this is genetically german, this is what other countries see the germans as wrongfully. And built hatred on this, a hatred that now holds strong for more than 150 years. And it extends to all levels of life. Brexit was practically based on two things. Stiring fears of immigrants AND fears of germans. Ridicuolus, as English people literally are german themselves smh.
But as said the parallels to the school example are frightening. The Germans try to "be better" in order to be accepted...which scares the others more. And so they "attack back" against something that want an attack by diluting their achievements, which of course leeds to Germans everywhere trying to "be better" to be accepted. And of course just like children in school. Nobody really understands why they arent liked, why the others are doing these things, but depending what side your own..,.you'll still go on and do it.
And this has become worse in the past 30 years since reunification. FAR worse...so no i dont think that people outside of Germany will " look back one day...." they might do so...but what you'll see there will be backham...and messi and ronaldo not the man who won more than they did...because his achievements count less. Because of his nationality. smh.

YES! My favourite player in the world right now!
A lot of football "fans" I know don't quite understand the concept. When I tell them that Thomas Muller is favourite current player, they always trot out Messi and Ronaldo's G/A stats and Ballon D'Ors.
And I keep trying to explain, I didn't say BEST. I said MY FAVOURITE.
What I love about Mulller, apart from the fact that he's a one-club-man, a thinking player, a space investigator and generally a funny dude who doesn't take himself too seriously, is that he is not a beautiful or elegant or graceful player. I don't think I've seen a single Muller goal in all those "Football Moments of Beauty" compilations that litter UA-cam.
His goals are ugly and his celebrations are just him standing still with his hands raised shouting "JAAAA!" He does exactly what his team needs him to do from playing a pass to assisting to scoring. And he does it with ugly efficiency.

One reason why Müller is so underrated is because ppls focus is mainly on the spanish and english leagues. He has been one of the 2-3 best players in the german national team during the last 12 years and he definitely was the most consistent one as well.
But as you have mentioned, Müller isnt the kind of guy who is doing a ton of dribblings, which would make ppl. think that hes a good player. Hes smart on the field and something else to keep in mind is also that hes always pushing his team mates to try harder, especially when the team is behind.
He is one of the main reasons why Bayern is dominating the league.

Or very simple if after a corner kick I saw two strikers running towrads the short post I always ran to the one further away or laid back for a rebound" - pretty simple actually :D Mulelrs Stamina is also on another level. He is always making meters and while runnign he is vocal to the whole first two lines and is arranging the attack and the pressing. Listen to the Bayern games when the stadiums where empty during COrona you can hear him yell 90 minutes trough and pointing towards spaces and players like a second coach.

Then man should be the face of German football for decades to come and with reason. Really good analysis for a non-Bayern fan and I'm really happy that people are recognizing how good Müller is at this spot. I particularly liked that you acknowledged how influential his runs to create space are as that's not something that is quantified in stats. I just have bring up a couple minor things as a huge fan of Müller's over the past dozen years.
He didn't really find a new level recently, it's just that he was given complete trust to run the offense by Hansi Flick and now, hopefully, Nagalsmann. His numbers took dips because Ancelotti wanted to play James Rodriguez and Kovač thought the bosses wanted him to play the big loan transfer, Coutinho. Ironically, it was Kovač playing giving him free reign in the second half of the previous season that salvaged the domestic double and kept his job. He was still key in the Robbery years though, in fact if you look at Robben's goal in Wembley it is Müller running right beside him making Weidenfeller have to consider a lay off pass. It's really all been about chemistry and tactics over the years rather than Müller's ability. His work with Lewandowski will have to go down as one of the greatest combinations in the history of the sport.
He also struggles as a forward. Bayern fans generally consider him a central attacking midfielder. He has an incredible work rate, is a great presser and struggles when he's been expected to lead the line for Bayern or Germany. He thrives in freedom and going under the radar a bit so placing him at the focal point of an offense doesn't usually work well. I do think you're right that he will do well in Nagalsmann's fluid offense and might score a few more goals than he did alongside Lewandowski, but I would never consider him a good choice to be Bayern's "forward" even as a false 9.

So good to read all the appreciation for TM from around the world.
In Germany lots of people are just making fun of him because he isn't that flashy, tattooed poster boy most trendy kids are looking up to these days.
There are even some "football fans" who actually think he can not play because it might not look elegant enough for them...

    • @gamewatcher2712
      @gamewatcher2712 Рік тому

Probably because of his playstyle. He is not a player to engage in 1v1 duels or to start runs or to dribble. This greatly reduces the chance of injury

@@2693742 I think he could get more praise depending on how he does this season, i feel like it could be a great season for him. Also getting praise and being unde-rated or over-rated are not the same.
Also i know that this is a very unpopular opinion but Muller was over-rated from 2010 to 2016, he was a very good player riding on a wave of enthusiasm and not close to the level many thought he was at . At the time i felt that he was overrated and that he was going to be found out at some point and that was what it happened from to 2016 to 2019.
Muller has imo been much better as an overall player after Flick came in when compared to his perceived prime and having folllowed his career i think his best season for Bayern was the 2019-2020 season .
I know it sounds crazy but i stick to this view. Muller had some astonishing performances in the 2010 and 2014 world cups and quite often he stood out in big games but i feel like those performances were not entirely representative of his quality and that Muller right now is much better ability wise when compared to his old self.
Basically i think his big game goals made him look a lot better than he was and his misses have made him look a lot worse than he is in recent seasons and led the media and many football fans to wildly underrate him.
