The Middle East sure seems divided today. What if in an alternate timeline, it had united as promised? Well, it might not be as hunky dory as you'd hope. Even in peace, there still would be conflict.

You forget that this new state would include many other non Muslim groups such as Maronite Christians and Druze in Lebanon, Assyrians in Iraq, as well as the Kurds. Although many of the borders were made by the Europeans, some, such as those of Mount Lebanon, existed for a long time under Ottoman rules, even with some degree of autonomy.
It would have also included Chechens, Circassians and Armenians(all these are minorities in Jordan).

Odim Nazis aren’t socialist bud. They killed anyone who were socialist
@@nassimb7151 No, they specifically targeted radical revolutionaries acting on behalf of an international conspiracy to overthrow global powers in a violent revolution, National Socialism was meant to be a continuation of the old powers that was more conscious of the proletariat breeding an era of class unity, rather than the class struggles of both Communism and Capitalism
@@nassimb7151 Programs were even set up to integrate upper class children and lower class children, instilling them with values of racial solidarity that would instill a sense of comradery amongst all in Germany, and amongst nations the germans wanted to integrate, which was primarily central, northern, and eastern Europe. Like... N a t i o n a l S o c i a l i s m ?
I’m waiting, 4chan. I’m waiting for someone to call this out.
It’s been two years so...
NAZBOL
Socialist Nationalism.
nazism aimed to "cleanse" the "aryian germany" from anything that would have undermined its greatness (quoting hitler) ,
Baathism isn't even close to that "objective" , it's about reviving a colonized, divided and exploited nation and putting it back where it belongs on world stage for the values it holds especially on social level (which was kind of what everyone is fighting for , forever probably) , to quote baathist lore:" Immortal is the message of the arabs" (litteral) which loosely translates to "we still have cultural and social values that can help solve humanity's problems and we must act as humanity as a whole depended on our ability to immortalize these values and protecting them from imminent loss either by the commies or the capis , or the racially dogmatized foodchain theorists"..
Zionism on the other hand , is the ideology of the natural supremacy of the jewish people (race and not religion) over all other humans (gentiles) ,and aims to make it a reality by directly engaging anyone who opposes it ( it's kind of the physical manifestation of all the money recolted from financing the bad deeds and businesses around the world)
Zionism , as nazism , claims to be the salvation of a race by reattributing the "original" historical lands to a government /power that is racially and ideologically aligned with their own.
While nazism at first wasn't really set up to be "all about race" , it's through the struggle against their direct opponent (the communists that were majoritarely led by jews) that they emphased the racial notions and the lebensraum ideal (which is exactly what zionism relies upon).
Hitler's nazism is a germanized version of zionism, baathism is how nazism should have been - as baathists never engaged in racial cleansing or anything near and actually baathist beliefs just excludes other races from government but not social life or somewhat citizenship if they abide.
Unlike Nazism, Bathism does not resort to real racism, at least not the original Baathist ideology, nor did it look at one party system. It would have been something like Turkey during the past century.

You hit on the traditional element and Social change point perfectly. That it would be a fight over ideologies.
Full disclosure, I live in the UAE, and we do have these debates all the time about traditions.
As a child, I remember a constant stream of fairs and events that honored our traditions and past, but as time went on, these events start to lessen, and the country's focus becomes more on the future, on technology and advancements.
It isn't that I see it as bad, but I see that it's a shame that we start to forget from where we came from.
(Really, wouldn't it be amazing to be an advanced country still honoring traditions and religion? Like Japan? Or in a fictional sense, Wakanda?)
Hey I live in the UAE as well i can agree with what your saying but hey at least we didnt become Atheist and at least our most important and fundamental beliefs are still there
@@hishamalaker491 it's worse tho? UAE is normalizing relationships with Zionists who oppress their brothers in faith. Can't say they have an ounce of faith left if they support oppresors.
Japan is just as traditional as most western nations, they just have an Unfamiliar culture that seems traditional since its so different. A lot of people dont realize just how traditional the west is compared to the Far East and Russia.
I think that this series generally shows how humble our leaders must be when making decisions. Acting in one's immediate best interest is not necessarily acting in one's long-term interest of any sort. Every choice, or lack of choice, can have monumental and totally unknowable consequences. Meanwhile, some events are basically just baked into the current geopolitical scenario and will happen, in more or less the same form and on the same schedule, no matter what one tries.
I actually think I like the Baathist timeline best of all.
Mostly because I can't help but find parallels to the Meiji Restoration.
The Meiji Restoration overthrew a military dictatorship to install a constitutional monarchy with universal male suffrage.
Baathist ideology's hold on the Arab world was part of what led to the Arab Spring, it was so repressive by nature.
Japanese Nationalism was not kind to the Ainu. Arab Nationalism? That alienates Kurds, Turkics, and potentially even other Bedouin and Mashriqi cultures if the Heshimites are elevated. Mosul, Aleppo, Lebanon, Oman, might all see separatists develop in response to state discrimination or atrocities.

A unified Arab peninsula's history would be intimately bound up with whatever happens with Egypt, and yet you completely ignore Egypt? In our own timeline Gamal Abd El Nasser's Arab Nationalism played a major part in the politics and social movements in the Arab World, and he even participated in a war in Yemen.
Moreover, what happens to the Jewish settler community in the land beyond the Jordan River? Zionism was active before the British back out of their agreements with the Hashemites. Do they find citizenship and a place in the unified Arabia? Or do their Nationalist/Separatist values force them into a confrontation?
Also what the hell does Iran think about this vast neighboring country with plentiful Shia minorities in many pockets?
You've simplified the history of the middle east to it's role as "problem" between the USSR and the USA but the history is so much more complicated. I almost feel this video should be redone.
yeah , but the zionists militias back then were also week and can not match regular armies ...
While I do agree with you, I do feel that Nasser would be sympathetic to a Ba'athist Arabia, which he did say was the most likely ideology to take hold, so don't consider it too forgotten. King Fouruk probably would've fallen eventually as well, at least without Arabian assistance.
I can picture the Arabians having the same problems with Zionists in Palestine as the British did. I think Egypt go through a revolution as in our timeline and would either join the Arabian country or become a very close ally. Another issue not covered in the video is what would happen with the oil companies, which by the 40s were basically acting with impunity in the region, even in independent Iran
the Arab kingdom would be much much much influencial than eygypt
Ali Alahmad not really
This video needs a remake. You didn't talked about Zions, Kurds and also the fact that Hussein Bin Ali claimed himself as Caliph, established the Sharifian Caliphate (But later when he got kicked by Saudis the Caliphate was disolved). Also I must say that Baathism exists because Arabs failed to reunite. So why will you have an ideology which wants to reunite the Arabs if Arabia (Middle East) is united?
You do ir
Arabs in Africa would still be under British/French/Italian rule, so no, not all Arabs would be unified.
@@Threezi04 Then decolonization would happen after WW2 and the Arab nation would likely get in on bringing them into their sphere of influence.
That said, baathism really wouldn't really work when there's no forced major divides lasting last the 40s or 50s.
@- EVIL Shut the fuck up, we don't give a fuck about aMAzIgH bLoOd, we are Arabs, plain and simple.
If the British actually gave Palestine to the Arabs like in the video, Zionism wouldn't really be much of a threat. Maybe Jews could even escape to the Arab state during the Holocaust (depends on German Arab relationships).

It really is an interesting thought and I can't wait to read your novel when it's released. Please be sure to let us on youtube know when it is....I know I'll be interested in reading it. Thank you for the informative and just great vids you put out!
You also forgot to mention that Ba'athism wasn't just about the Middle East....
Ba'athism talks about the ENTIRE Arab world uniting under a secularist yet religion respecting society (Ba'athist secularism isn't let loose like Western secularism), from Marrakesh in Morocco to Baghdad Iraq under Arab racial nationalism. This is coming from an Arab Ba'athist who read the work of Michel Aflaq, the Christian Syrian founder of the movement.
But as a Ba'athist you would know that most Ba'athist today would be more of a neo-baathist rather than the one Michel Aflaq had in mind. This is coming from a fellow Arab Ba'athist.
Neo-Ba'athism is long story short just Ba'athism implemented with an iron fist due to harsh times, whereas Aflaq was less brutish and didn't yet recognize the fight the Ba'athists were about to enter.
Neo-Baathism is the only way forward. Michel Aflaq being the corner stone of baathism doesn't mean we should agree with everything he said because honestly some of his ideas are pretty wonky. Btw which branch do you support.
Ankh Its very stupid to think entire countries should unite based on them sharing an arabic language.... All it would do is cause more conflicts.
Mahmoud Alissa we don't share the same culture. Can you honestly tell me a Lebanese guy will have the same mentality as a Yemeni or a Saudi? With regards to language the closest example I can think of that resembles the Arab world is Latin America, and you dont see them wanting to be one country. I'm still a new Ba'athist because I still hope for an Arab union similar to the EU.
I absolutely love every single video that this channel releases. Some of the most original and also well made content.

A unified state would’ve still been the best thing for the Middle East. I mean every country that starts out is going to have inevitable issues, but like you said, things change. And wouldn’t other countries work with the state to help it become successful and make sure it wouldn’t adopt a harmful ideology? Just because it would start off conservative doesn’t mean it wouldn’t change into a more progressive country with time.
I don't think the goal should be to be progressive. Progressive implies there is no end. Change is not inherently good, and progressiveness means to forever change.

What if nuclear weapons were never invented?
WWIII & IV would have happened by now.
Reverend Lovejoy communist Japan. WWIII.
He's done this one already
Breaking News:
World War XVII (17) started
Nukes are not necessairly bad things. Their effects are indeed terrifying but the deterrent they create has been succesful in preventing a major international military conflict for the past 70+ years. Also: if nukes never came into play we would likely not have Nuclear Power, which, no matter what you think about it, not having it would lead to increased exploitment of non-renewable resources, like oil.
In the end, if nukes weren't invented:
World War 2 will have ended much later, likely between 1947 (at best) or even 1950, because the United States would have needed to invade mainland Japan in order to force its capitulation. And invading a mountainous region inhabited by nationalistic fanatics is not easy.
The Cold War would have gone hot veeeeeery quickly, maybe even with the Berlin Blockade, which would have triggered war between west and east very likely before the United States captured Tokyo.
At that point the Battle of Europe would be mostly between the USSR and the Western Allies, as the newly liberated european countries (like Italy) didn't have the Economic and Military power to engage in another conflict.
Timeline:
1945 - WW2 Ends in Europe
1948 - The Russo-American war starts
1949 - The Communists win in china, Japan surrenders
1950 - Warsaw Pact formed between the USSR, the PRC (Communist China) and the DPRK (North Korea), PATO (Pacific and Atlantic Treaty Organization) formed between the USA, the UK, France, Canada, Australia, New Zeland, Japan and the ROC (Republic of China)

In a unified state, what about the different ethnic groups, how would they fit in? Like for example would Kurds still try to establish their own independent state?
I like the kurds
Good question, Brendan, Cody totally skipped over the Kurds.
Louis Duarte
My theory is that the Kurds would be a continuous problem for the state with them either politically or by rebellion achieve independence. Rebellion if scenario 3 occurs. I don’t know much about the several ethnic groups in the Middle East but I think there would be problems in Lebanon as Christians there identify themselves as Phoenician not Arab. I also wonder how Jewish immigration would factor in as without the Balfour declaration Jews would still try to migrate to Palestine/Israel.

Holy Chit the music in the BG really hit the tone of the video
Hi Alternate History Hub,I’d like to ask you can I get the copyright to translate videos into Arabic and publish them on UA-cam in Arabic.
This kind of video will definitely be very interesting for the numerous Arab perspectives. But the script would have to be slightly adapted. Such as when he brought up christians conservatism versus Islamic conservatism.
I'm interested in the book you're writing. I'd definitely buy it when it gets published.
You know What?
Sand!!!
**Vader turns on his lightsaber**
Hello there!
I FOUND SAND!
SpartanGerm 212 General Kenobi
Prussian Eagle Star Wars reference
This is a great idea
What if in an alternate timeline Sienfeld still on TV?
Congrats on the book man I'm excited 👍
One thing I noticed in both of these videos is that you brushed over what the US and the European powers would have done with the Jewish population after the second world War. I think it would've changed a big part of your video and made a unified Arabia a lot more unstable from the get go, because it's unsure what they would've done with a potential Israel. Just something to consider I guess. I know it's an older video by this point but I felt like I had to say it.
Good luck on your novel!
What if Brazil in the past was able to become a superpower just like the USA?
S3rp3nte that would be interesting they would definitely have more influence in South America but I do think that they would allie with the USA
Kameron Jones
Unless it get involved in the conflict of Panama Canal, since Colombia could have become at that point either an allie or a protectorate of Brazil.
And it sound unlikely that two supepowers would become allied, especially during the beginning of the 20th century, there would be too much conflict of interest.
S3rp3nte oh I thought you were talking about current day but it would be interesting to see how the two countries would handle the Panama canal situation.
Posible a war in south america betwee Brazil vs all there neigbords
Actually, it was once.. until they overthrew the monarchy, and implanted the shitty republic. Poor Brazil. It had such a great potential.. and it threw it in the trash..
What if the US militarily aided France after the French Revolution?
America's military strength was not very high back then. Sort of like having Vietnam or Chile on your side.
They did, they lost, Canada burned the White House in our timeline.
黑龍 - Hắc Long there was no Canada during 1812 it was the British who burned the White House.
What if France helped fight the US in their revolution?
Just as a heads up, I am well aware of why we didn't help. I just thought Cody would be the man for the job to go over in detail just how bad America would be screwed by Britain, and if it would ever recover, or even continue to exist.
“Baathism is an ideology that is a strange blend of socialism, and nationalism”
OH GOD NOT AGAIN
You should make a alternate history movie! It would be so dope... like a trilogy or something like that.
One of the better videos you did imho. In some others, you focus so much on one scenario that it sounds like you think it couldn't possibly go any other way.
I mean, nobody really expected the brexiteers to win, or the assassination of Franz Ferdinand of Austria. There is never only one way things can go.
