Jessica, thank you for such a clear, balanced, thoughtful approach on this complicated topic. If, or when, or how to disclose is such a personal and situation-specific decision. Which you make clear. And with helpful strategies too. Your work is appreciated!
One of the most interesting and helpful webinars I have seen. And all of yours are good. Compliments to Jessica on presenting an engaging talk and offering many helpful suggestions that sound feasible
I am so frustrated, I know I have ADHD. Listening to a lot of the ADDitude webinars also anchored this thought. I could not afford a private doctor but went to a clinic then referred to a Psychiatrist and Psychologist at a public hospital. The Psychologist gets it and I have been seeing her for counciling. The Psychiatrist said it must be borderline depression and gave me antidepressants. He said ADHD is only on children under the age of 12. And he is adamant that he has more than 30 years as a doctor. I was demoted at work because I struggle with executive functions, i took that we'll because I now understand but am trying to work on it but it doesn't help when the doctor who is suppose to give me medication does not even believe I could have ADHD. So frustrating. I am also looking for another job but wish I could sort myself out and do my best before going to another new environment. What can I do about this doctor who thinks I am only following Doctor Google? Is there research I can give him or something
While it is a common misconception that ADHD is only in children, it is totally false. The hyperactivity (in those who had it as a child) often fades but the rest remains. Adult ADHD is well known to exist and isn't actually controversial, there is just ignorance about it from some. Tell him to do a google search or listen to specialists who focus on the condition.
