  • I took advantage of the 3-day holiday weekend to hike this old Native American portage route from Rapid River to south of Au Train/Munising area. It roughly follows the portage route used to cross the UP from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior.
    The fall colors were popping and the hiking weather was perfect.
    Day 1: 20 miles
    Day 2: 18 miles
    Day 3: 2.5 miles

    Oh and your stove build is pretty cool. You ever think about putting a baffle inside?

      No, it just takes up space really. I put one inside a smaller stove and it didn’t seem to make enough difference.

      @Oneclick Outside yeah I kinda figured.

    Serious question. Ever have any Sasquatch experiences or anything out of the normal?

      Haha nothing too crazy! I did have something walk under my hammock at 2am once. I could feel it brush up against my back/butt. I just held my breath and hoped it kept walking along.

      @Oneclick Outside Lmao I'd s&%t myself. Well not to sound to crazy but they do exist. I've seen a few over the past year and a half. Actually getting ready to leave for a 6-7 month solo research expedition In N Central Minnesota. Anyone who reads this doesn't have to believe me but I would advise you to go watch a few videos on their tree structures. I was backwoods winter camping a few years ago sleeping under the stars and got ran out litterly of an area by them. I say this bc Michigan is a hot spot not just for Sasquatch. I refuse to say the K9 equivalent. Trust me I've hunted all my life and never really fully believed until April of 2021.

      @@pasystem56 tree structures, like the trunks leaned up in an odd way? Les Stroud did an episode about that…I don’t know, it was a hard sell to me. But he seems like a legit no-BS guy.

      @Oneclick Outside in an area where I've been going to since I was 3. Ignored the sign blindly all those years. I have pictures of a part of a footprint that's on my hitch as well as a 6-7 in long palm print on the upper lip of my topper where the back window is missing. Found multiple 18×7in tracks. And they don't always smell. A lot of us who are legitimately researching on this subject are starting to think it's a type of phenomenon they realize. Maybe a type of warning like a skunk.

      I think it deleted my comment about the tree structures. Wth

      I'm planning on backpacking this trail in spring of 2023 and there's not a lot of information on it. This really helped me.

      @@karyn4875 glad to help! It’s an easy hike with frequent water sources spaced out so you never have to carry much. Are you having someone drop you off to thru hike? That worked out really well for me.

      @karyn4875 Рік тому

      Yes, I'll park my car and then have a friend drop me off at the other end. This appears to be relatively flat so it shouldn't be too challenging. Thanks for the information on the water. Did you encounter many horses?

      @@karyn4875 there was one group of maybe 8 but that was it. They seem to use the south half.
