They chose that name because when Matt and Dom were living in Exeter briefly, they lived above a porn shop and in that porn shop was a Japanese porno called the rocket baby dolls
reading these old comments here was 15 years ago. that was 2009. it feels ages ago, it does. 2009 when the resistance release, the year I became muse fan. watching this is bittersweet.. how far they've come. mind blowing
I liked the last song) They are so young! They don't have the instruments here but after hard work they became a legendary band! The best in the world! They inspire me, show that nothing is given easily. That you have to work hard to reach your dream, your desire. Now Muse is very big part of my life. I don't know how I lived without them so many years... For me they are Gods, Gods of Music!
Elisa Pajer yeah, they’ve played the Psycho riff for a very long time and apparently tried to make it into a song for quite a while too, but it’s only in 2015 that they manage to turn it into Psycho.
What a wonderful-MUSEY-genuine story! So enjoyed seeing they guys of Muse as extremely young men, loaded with talent and energy. And they still are so very talented, of course, with all their terrific albums as evidence. Think that Matt is such a natural and knows what he wants to write, compose and perform, because that's what he feels on an emotional and intellectual level. sheer genius
I love Chris messing about on Dom drums while he tries to pack them up :P Using his head as a second drum haha :) Lovely video, thank you very much for posting it! Matt not knowing about Blues yet making such a heartbreaking beautiful song in that style just shows what a genius this man is :)
"Just like an angel blows" became "just like a virgin blows" became "another corporate show"..interesting. I love hearing all the different versions of their lyrics.
Pretty sure Matt DID know what blues was. His father showed him a lot of old records, and he wanted to play in a jazz band before Muse. I guess he just didn't know what made Falling Down a blues song. In the same sense he was always surrounded by music, but didn't learn music theory until much later.
man, i LOVE this video. it's so old, and the first time i see john leckie and found out how..new matt is to music! he didnt had a clue about a few things in music and it really realte to me how he was just like us and now he has made it big as a rock god!
I'm pretty sure Matt is the one in black, chewing on Dom's hair (lol), and Chris is under them. I love Matt when he was young. He was so utterly serious and adorable. And they all had epic hair xD Muse
Great video! Thank you so much for uploading. I love that the video shows how open minded Muse are, which is one of the things that make them so great.
Wow i really enjoyed the video!, they were so young here and look so innocents, love the way Bellamy moves, is like i was watching a little kid walking around a big house.... thanks for posting this viedo it brings me so many good memories T_T!
aww at 3:00 when Matt has his hands in his hair coz he's embarrassed. Bless his little cotton socks. 06:49 - "just like an angel blows" ?? Chris on drums :)
I wonder what did they record this video for, was like a documental for a new band on a studio? I mean they were not famous back then or anything. I definitely love that they did though, it is so great to see them when they started.
Major babeage from 1:25 - 1:50! Along with any other time with Matthew - which would be the whole thing! Thanx for sharing Irma! Thanx for posting this JazzBellamy!!
the other studio that he talks about near the beginning is a place called sawmill studios and it is literally a mile from where I live. You can only get to it by boat and I would've had my work experience there if it wasn't for my parents not wanting me to go somewhere that 'I was never going to work at'!
crazy to think that he had some basic ideas for what we now know as buttercanes all those years ago, considering buttercanes was one of the main songs that hinted at there progression and change of sound over time, very much a high contrast from the rest of the showbiz era material.
I know!! First time I saw the video for Uno, my mouth fell open! He's thin anyway, but in his early 20's he was malnourished, tho his talent was massively growing
Wocket Baby Dolls
such wow
Wait
They chose that name because when Matt and Dom were living in Exeter briefly, they lived above a porn shop and in that porn shop was a Japanese porno called the rocket baby dolls
Pwoper name 👍👍

Its so cool that Matthew plays butterflies and hurricanes on the piano long before they recorded Absolution!!!
emil Stenstad Selen "rekorded"
emil Stenstad Selen yeah, I also think they played Bliss years before they recorded it...
Muse started in 94. They had a lot of time to whip up songs like Plug in Baby long and Bliss before they could record them
+emil Stenstad Selen Also the psycho riff was invented very early. like 24 years before the original release!
NSA FUCKOFF they used it as an outro live
21 year old Muse. How adorable can you get.
*****
wow
so adowable
Literally oml
Weally adorable
4:19 , he was already playing a part of butterflies and hurricanes , that came years later
Amazing
they also recorded a demo for plug in baby like 4 years prior to origin of symmetry
@@EdgyCraft yeah but it didn’t have the iconic riff
It also sounds like the accent used in map of the problematique. Amazing 😁
The band that has changed so much over the years but still to this day is pure genius.
4:16 Butterflies and Hurricanes? Nice...
I thought exactly the same :D
Emmo Hernández and to think this man is now making songs like the globalist and aftermath :')
San Sal I know. They've grown so much. But they are just as amazing as they were back then.
I agree completely
+WadsMitterGaMinG They are.

I thought I was going to be all alone in this comment section in 2024, nice to bump into this comment!
Matt makes me feel good about being skinny.
+astrojeet And so you should! It's a good look!
I like skinny guys far more than buff ones.
Wasn't he anourexic?

8:30 is my fave bit. They’re such children and I love them. Glad they always seem to have a great time together.
I liked the last song)

Lol and the more instrument they got, the more they became less interesting.
THEY'RE SO YOUNG.
Chris on the drums at the end haha
I love how naive Matt is in this interview compared to more recent interviews!
He was 21, and it was one of his first interviews! If anything, he was inexperienced!
never want him to stop talking xD
and when i listen to them, i never want them to stop playing!
great album for a new band and the start of a great career
Everyone went crazy about hearing B&H at 4:16 but I watched a video of a Muse gig in 1999 and suddenly Matt started to play PSYCHO RIFF!
Elisa Pajer yeah, they’ve played the Psycho riff for a very long time and apparently tried to make it into a song for quite a while too, but it’s only in 2015 that they manage to turn it into Psycho.
And here I thought I couldn't love Bellamy more than I already do. I stand corrected.
Beevenhouse same ❤️
I just WANT a film of them!!!!
Matt is only 21 by the time Showbiz came out and I barely knew what to do with my life at that age.
My love for this guys just grows everyday
2022 and I'm watching this. Muse was always good, man, it's Will of the People times and I'm so proud of them... (brazilian fan here!)
Im proud of you

_Showbiz_ still stands the test of time as a terrific first album. Props to John Leckie as well for some excellent production.
Oh my lord they are all so cute!! ^^
Loving that VHS quality :D
matt with blue hair is so cute
Words cannot describe how much I love this video.

emelis Bit late (currently going on a Muse binge) but at first I thought I'd been hearing it wrong all this time 😂😂
4:15 Sound like a really early Butterflies and Hurricanes.
He had that face as Hm I should show the guys lol
I love that bit at the end. It's fun to just see them messing around. That's what making music is supposed to be about. It's supposed to be fun.
their best album imo
thanks for putting imo in there, most people are like "FACT IS NEW MUSE IS SHIT"
Andrew S Showbiz and Origin probably feel special for you because nostalgia.
Andrew S Oh well then. Just something that I often feel, for example the first two Billy Talent albums.
Andrew S They're nothing like Muse, more like Screamo Punk Rock but they're awesome, check them out.
Matt's voice haven't changed at all!!!
Pretty sure Matt DID know what blues was. His father showed him a lot of old records, and he wanted to play in a jazz band before Muse. 5:44 how Rocket Baby Dolls started!!
I love stories like these!
Matt is a genius on the piano.. i al ready knew that but still i'm allways suprised when i see him play. ^^
I love Matt's Showbiz era hair
interviewer : where are we?
matt : rak studios, look *pointing* rak
hahahha, aww matt ..
What a wonderful person is Matt!
Thanks for this epic bit of Muse history. it's amazing how much Matt is like wine... better and better with age :D
ha i love how matt plays at the end :D its so amazing how they've come so far from battle of the bands to selling out wembley stadium :)
One of his teeth, rest upon another tooth... how cute!! XD
I saw the Showbiz tour and to this day its still one of my all time fave live shows they were fuckin incredible \m/

Cool to hear a little bit of Butterflies and Hurricanes early on and Chris playing on the kit a bit too.
Best making of for the best Muse album

Ah, good old Showbiz days. Nice blast from the past :) That Cornish studio (Sawmills) is just down the road from me. Good times :)
Butterflies and hurricanes in piano 😍😍😍
Oh my Goooood Matt :D Oh my God he's so cute !
Is there an interview in which Matt doesn't refer back to good old 'Battle of the Bands' story? lol
RAT: Brutus's first distortion pedal 😄
So where are we
Matt: This is er Rak studios... See *Points* Rak

I think that's cool, that he created that in 1999-2000 and still used it 3 years later.
This was heart stopping.
4:35 butterflies and hurricanes :3

That vintage recording table was in the Abbey road studio, where the Beatles spent time recording. ...

ffs Matt is so tiny
LOL its Hobbit Matt!
well he is basically just from school
Even the piano stuff at the end sounds cool 0.0.

That's stupid! Work experience is about trying different things and opening opportunities
Oh is it? Damn that would've been sick to have had work experience there. I live in truro btw, i wanna go to that studio eventually😂
yes and that's soooooooo surprising !!!! The song only came out more than half a decade later...

oh look the studios then and look the studio now on "making of resistance" !!!! wow!! :D
the birth of my heros!!!
Butterflies and hurricanes était déjà en ébauche à cette période sous forme d'un rythme syncopé...incroyable!
If I ever started a band I would probably be this shy and awkward x| hehe
It's definitely the middle piano section of B&H though. He probably had that piece around for years before adding it to a song.
no this is actually the verse, just before the drums com in with full power.
I know!! First time I saw the video for Uno, my mouth fell open! He's thin anyway, but in his early 20's he was malnourished, tho his talent was massively growing
Last 20sec was awsome.
Matt was so skinny in this video :) I think he knew what blues was, he must of!
