  • Whilst we were in Downieville we could not pass up the opportunity to visit the stunning Death Valley! Luckily when we visited in December, average temperatures were down in the 20's, but this arid landscape was incredible to explore. What better way to do so than by E-bike, taking in the geology and geography of this vast area using just 2 batteries.

    For this adventure, we were riding the Cannondale Moterra, a 160mm travel E-MTB with the Bosch CX Performance Motor. Equipped with a 625 watt-hour battery, we would be using 2 of these for the ride, a task made easy by Cannondale's quick and simple battery cover plate.

    You reminded me of something when you grabbed the square nails. In early days when it was time to move, they would burn down their house to get the nails. Nails cost more than the lumber did.

    Top notch editing. I am infatuated with this stuff now that I'm in my 50s and building ebike conversions out of my wife and mine '96 Raleigh M80 and M60 bikes we bought new when we got married 26 years ago. I'm using bufang chinese mid drives, but we are on a budget and they work for recycling our old MTBs. I have the wife's 750w done and it is great. I gave it a 42 tooth crank and I forget what the cassette granny is, but it is very torquey. Enough for her anyhow. I am using the 1000w and will have that in this week just in time to go for our first ride together next weekend on the Eire canal in western NY. Anyhow...thanks for the great content. I look forward to binge watching the next few days!

    Nice! I once tried to find a steamer that supposedly sunk full of Cerro Gordo bullion at the bottom of now dry Owens Lake only to get mired in quicksand... Good work highlighting the types of eMTB riding available in California and keeping it legal. What was your top speed during the descent?

    Hello, Nice video once again !
    At 13'20''
    I note the solution put by the cannondale monterra's owner to change the original ratio 34T:
    A FSA spider directmount with a 36 teeth SRAM chain ring, that's is curious ...why not use the original chainring Sram X-Sync 2 Eagle Bosch 36T ?
    Steel vs aluminium ?

    • @ferranox
      @ferranox 2 роки тому

      cannondale uses this spider because of their custom "ai offset" technology

    What would have been interesting would have been a Bosch battery report pre and post ride, to see battery temperatures, min/max voltages for instance. Lithium (NMC) like all batteries don’t like high temperatures.
    Also motor efficiency reduces with heat. Just geeky stuff I like to measure and know…

    • @simonm1447
      @simonm1447 2 роки тому

      The critical cell temperature is 60 ° C, from this on the cells start to suffer. Under 60 ° it should be fine, Tesla for example can preheat the battery to 50 ° to increase charging rate (the cooling system will prevent it from getting hotter during fast charging).
