I was lucky back in those days. I had a cheap stereo in my bedroom but my parents had a BIG Magnavox Hi Fi and speakers. When I wanted to run my mother off all I had to do was play Rainbow Bridge at window-rattling decibels. Mom ran over to the neighbour's for coffee to get away from it. The best thing to come out of '57 was Chevys and me. Not necessarily in that order.
You were very lucky. My parents had a hatred I think for music. After all why burn my (sister’s old) record player and all her 45s? Strange people indeed :-(
Some favourite albums from my teenage years... 1974 Supertramp - Crime Of The Century 1975 Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here 1976 Steve Hillage - L 1977 Talking Heads - 77 1978 Ian Dury - New Boots And Panties 1979 Talking Heads - Fear Of Music 1980 Bob Marley - Uprising Still listen to all of these, but my all-time favourite band which I listen to more than any other is Jefferson Airplane.
That’s quite the selection there Graham - some great bands and albums. I do like a bit of JA. Grace Slick had a wonderful voice and White Rabbit is one of my all time favourite tunes :-)
@@carefulwiththataxeeugene-fz2ek you might enjoy a listen to The Great Society, Grace's band before The Airplane. The original version of Somebody To Love is fabulous. ua-cam.com/play/PLzmzX9mYJRaeHpY2FSrqNWK3ihQrAz3JH.html
I think your 1980 list excited me the most. But that is quite a collection and memory, Nick! I had a snicker at your inserted comment about Flash Gordon (“I’m a Queen fan, okay?”). And perhaps it’s an influence of modern times, but I thought I heard you say you got Judas Priest’s “Streaming for Vengeance”. An excellent video, mostly in part because of your usual charming delivery and in part because I had nearly all the same records except on cassette.
Hey Nick, enjoyed your video! Steve from All The World’s A Stage tipped me off about your channel. Some great albums that you enjoyed in your teenage years! I only got Machine Gun Etiquette very recently, but enjoying it as a 48 year old! Cheers, Jack
Nice vid. Mike sent me! I was but a few months into my teenage years when Marc Bolan died, which cast a pall not only over my teenage musical years but I still don't think I'm entirely over it. So: 13 Rumours. Who didn't? (Actually it was only the 3rd biggest hit of the year!) I still have it 14 Kaya Bob Marley (which I didn't like. I went through a phase of buying records by people that I had read about but never heard) I grew up to be a huge reggae fan but I still think Marley is, in JA music terms, an insect in comparison to the real giants) 15 Either Singles going Steady or Different Kind of Tension by the Buzzcocks. Still have SGS. Buying them was a life changing event. in fact, on Monday, I visited the very same record store I bought them from! 16 Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - the Dead Kennedys. Still have it. Still play it. Still pogo 'til I puke to it. 17 Dare - The Human League. My sister and I calculate that, between us, we have owned 25 different versions of this album. 18 Combat Rock - The Clash. Either that or Plastic Surgery Disasters by The Dead Kennedys. It's hard to split them because Combat Rock seems to have gotten better with age and PSD has dimmed a little. 19 Treeless Plain -The Triffids. First contact with Australia's greatest ever band. wish I still had it. It'd be worth a fortune.
Nice selection there. My GF in my teens was a massive Buzzcickscdan and therefore so was I. Though only have the SGS compilation. Not that familiar with DK but always thought they were a band I should get into. I love the famous single Holiday in Cambodia. Now I feel I need to hear more :-)

Haha Peter. They can add Streaming for Vengeance to Overdubbed in the East!!
Thank you for your comment and support :-)
It means a lot
@@carefulwiththataxeeugene-fz2ek Overdubbed in the East! That’s better than Unleashed in the Studio.

48? 48!!!!!
You’re way too young for this channel ;-)
Only joking - great to have you along :-)

The crown jewel of my heavy metal collection was Mario Lanza singing “Arrivederci Roma”.
You’ve never heard Vera Lynn shredding on her Strat then?
One of my wife's claims to fame is playing saxophone on stage with Vera Lynn at the Free Trade Hall Manchester.
@@grahamniven you’ve got that wrong Graham. It was Vera lynn’s claim to fame that she sang while your wife played saxophone!!
