My MIL said I shouldn’t be making my boys do housework. My dear husband replied to her that he wanted them to learn a work ethic and how to do housework from their Mom, not their wife like I had to. She couldn’t argue with that.

Wooo!! 🥳🥳 👏🏼👏🏼 good man right there! Love that he stood beside you against his mother. Especially when it came to your parenting with YOUR children, not hers. And also, he made a great point. I am a woman but growing up, my mom did all the housework. And I still suck at it lol. So I completely get what he means! My parents were good parents but they definitely slacked on the life skills teachings. I'm 31 and still get nervous having to do certain things in the world cuz I was never taught how to.

I told hubby that our son will know how to look after himself, without relying on a woman. He's now in his mid20's and, while still living at home, is happy to look after himself for several weeks while his dad and I travel. I told hubby that no woman wants to marry and train a domestic cripple. (housework wise, not referring to physical disability)

My mom originally said the same thing - but she changed her mind when I told her that my kids whether boy or girl will learn to do housework, wash their own laundry, iron if need be (or go wrinkled), sew and mend, and plan and prepare all kinds of foods/meals. At the same time not only my son will (and did) learn all that, but I also maintained that my kids will also learn to change tires, do plugs and points (yes, this was definitely BEFORE "the modern times"), mow lawns, fill a gas tank, change oil and all the so-called "manly" things. My kids when grown may CHOOSE to have someone else do those things for them, but it won't be because they won't know how.

Times change so I can understand your mother in law however these days it's more the norm for boys/men to take part in housework and cooking especially if both parents are working or like Sarah and Solo with a larger family. It's great to teach all children to work as a team because it will teach them skills for when they enter the workforce. Your husband is a good man for letting his mum know that his family works differently. 😊

Hi --- This is a suggestion for Samantha. Before going to a church with your daughter, get permission to stay with her in her children's gathering/class. After attending with her for a few weeks, you might feel more at ease for her and for yourself. In time, you may feel comfortable enough to leave her class and attend the adult meetings. If you or your daughter need to meet with church leaders, have someone you trust go with you. Don't be afraid to share that you are an abuse victim, and you have trust issues. If that church won't respect your wishes, keep looking until you find a church where you can feel peace. Praying for you!

Samantha, my initial thought was does your daughter have a friend who goes, and that’s why she’s asking? Using the above parameters and Solo and Sarah’s advise, maybe visit. I thought the same thing they said, God is using your daughter to push you. Healing is hard, forgiveness is harder. But we have to do uncomfortable things to grow. I will pray for you and your family, Congratulations on ALL you have overcome and accomplished! You’re amazing!

Hi. I have trust issues in the church as well. I was not personally abused, but a sibling (by a trusted neighbor at age 8, not on the church) even so, I have major trust issues when it comes to my children. Before we attend a new church I meet with the children's minister, make sure they have good policies in place that they actually follow ( not just on paper). However, it's important to remember that no amount of safety protocols will ensure 100% safety. So it's important to talk to your child about appropriate touch, talking, etc. With my 4 kiddos I have used God Made All Of Me to talk about safe touch. We talk about it all the time in my house, as well as pornography (the books Not If, But When and Good Pictures, Bad Pictures). Just my two cents :)

I was the oldest of 7 children. My parents made our home open to our friends. My parents were very strict and had a plan how they wanted us to be raised. In order for their rules to be implemented. They had a plan. In this process our friends could play with us at our home and very seldom could we visit their homes. My parents had to know their parents or have met our friends parents. After, that they would determine if we could visit our friends at their home. Later, I found out that most of our friends like coming to our home because there were games played and food always presents. I do not know how my parents could afford same, but when it comes to your children and their up bringing you make adjustments. I raised my kids the same . I am glad I did I knew where they were and whom they were with.

Being able to just be ok that your family is different from other families is so important, and people in your life need to not be threatened just by the fsct that you made a different decision than they did. Even Grandma and Grandpa. My oldest has her first baby, and I am very firm about this even with her. It is OK that she makes different decisions than I did! It helps a lot to tell my kods early and often that we do things differently sometimes than other families, other families do things differently than us, and that's ok.

I was abused by a catholic priest for 5.5 years, starting at age 6. Over 200 times. The hardest part was my mother still made me go to church even after she found out(the priest had died before I told). It was so traumatic to be forced to keep going.
What has helped me as an adult was sitting at the back of the church in case I needed to leave. Also, my kids and husband know and are compassionate about it. I have days that are much easier to go and others where just the site of a white collar or the smell of frankincense will cause a panic. There are support groups for those abused by clergy. I am sending great big survivor hugs and letting you know that you’re not alone! Of everything the person took from me, the one that hurt the most was my ability to trust GOD. I very badly want to.. sometimes I get close but then recoil! I struggle with it even at 48.
Give yourself grace and allow yourself to take baby steps. GOD doesn’t care if you go into a building to LOVE him.

My kids are now 15&17, I had a lot of my own family dislike the way I parented them. I never lost sight of what kind of parent I wanted to be and NEVER backed down. Now my family cannot say enough about how respectful they are.
Definitely be the parent you want to be

I reviewed the comments a bit (not all 300+!) and I don’t want to minimize the heart-wrenching stories, but I want to comment on the rainwater collection suggestion. I know you will do all the research in time, but when I got a rain barrel connected to my gutters I was told that the water could only be used for irrigation because of the chemicals present in the roofing material that the water passes over. Just suggesting that you look into that…you might have a roofing option that would be okay.

Another helpful advice with Samantha, is working with a therapist to help you with walking inside a church first for yourself to feel safe. It took me a long time to get back into church after being accused of picketing and literally being thrown up against the wall, choked by our pastor in front of kids and many adults. This was over 20 years ago in my teenage years. Working with my therapist at that time really really helped me.

I like ir advice on the tiktok or phn situation. I'm 50+ and my kids downloaded it onto my phn couple yrs back and as an adult I can tell u no child shld be on it, I got so put off with content I got rid of it almost 2 yrs ago and have tried to encourage my adult kids to get rid of it too but they have to make their own choices now. Wish I had this advice whn they were growing up

To add to the first ladies question( Kimberly) I’d love to learn about each special need, how you cope, what you wish the public knew about each child’s needs, talk about the up times, the down times, what encourages you. There is SO much I’d love to know about children w/ special needs!
ALSO, wow! I’d LOVE to know about your husband’s country! Compare contrasts w/ U.S., & specific ways we can help you! I think you could do a several part deep dive on each subject! That’s just my outlook on it & my opinion, but I think your channel would grow quickly with information about your interesting & your journey!
Kimberly, I hope you see this & I’ll check back for your channel’s name! I have a feeling your channel will quickly grow! 😊
    God bless! 💜🕊️

While not all of this applied to me directly, Solo’s words and the Spirit was powerfully felt as he shared. ❤❤❤
Edit: I’ve gone to church alone before, and it is hard, especially if your new to the area. I remember praying so hard the next wk that I would be needed. Needless to say, a new member waved me over to sit with them in the main mtg. Then for SS, her child was being too active and it was hard for them to listen, so I helped out and went with the child to his age class. At first, he didn’t want to go with me, a stranger. But the Spirit whispered, you have primary peanuts! (In my purse, just peanuts), these were peanuts that I could only give a few at a time while in primary! 😂. It worked! He’s 18 yrs old now, and still calls them, primary peanuts! It was just what I needed. God knew. ❤
