Hi --- This is a suggestion for Samantha. Before going to a church with your daughter, get permission to stay with her in her children's gathering/class. After attending with her for a few weeks, you might feel more at ease for her and for yourself. In time, you may feel comfortable enough to leave her class and attend the adult meetings. If you or your daughter need to meet with church leaders, have someone you trust go with you. Don't be afraid to share that you are an abuse victim, and you have trust issues. If that church won't respect your wishes, keep looking until you find a church where you can feel peace. Praying for you!

Samantha, my initial thought was does your daughter have a friend who goes, and that’s why she’s asking? Using the above parameters and Solo and Sarah’s advise, maybe visit. I thought the same thing they said, God is using your daughter to push you. Healing is hard, forgiveness is harder. But we have to do uncomfortable things to grow. I will pray for you and your family, Congratulations on ALL you have overcome and accomplished! You’re amazing!

Hi. I have trust issues in the church as well. I was not personally abused, but a sibling (by a trusted neighbor at age 8, not on the church) even so, I have major trust issues when it comes to my children. Before we attend a new church I meet with the children's minister, make sure they have good policies in place that they actually follow ( not just on paper). However, it's important to remember that no amount of safety protocols will ensure 100% safety. So it's important to talk to your child about appropriate touch, talking, etc. With my 4 kiddos I have used God Made All Of Me to talk about safe touch. We talk about it all the time in my house, as well as pornography (the books Not If, But When and Good Pictures, Bad Pictures). Just my two cents :)

My MIL said I shouldn’t be making my boys do housework. My dear husband replied to her that he wanted them to learn a work ethic and how to do housework from their Mom, not their wife like I had to. She couldn’t argue with that.

Wooo!! 🥳🥳 👏🏼👏🏼 good man right there! Love that he stood beside you against his mother. Especially when it came to your parenting with YOUR children, not hers. And also, he made a great point. I am a woman but growing up, my mom did all the housework. And I still suck at it lol. So I completely get what he means! My parents were good parents but they definitely slacked on the life skills teachings. I'm 31 and still get nervous having to do certain things in the world cuz I was never taught how to.

I told hubby that our son will know how to look after himself, without relying on a woman. He's now in his mid20's and, while still living at home, is happy to look after himself for several weeks while his dad and I travel. I told hubby that no woman wants to marry and train a domestic cripple. (housework wise, not referring to physical disability)

My mom originally said the same thing - but she changed her mind when I told her that my kids whether boy or girl will learn to do housework, wash their own laundry, iron if need be (or go wrinkled), sew and mend, and plan and prepare all kinds of foods/meals. At the same time not only my son will (and did) learn all that, but I also maintained that my kids will also learn to change tires, do plugs and points (yes, this was definitely BEFORE "the modern times"), mow lawns, fill a gas tank, change oil and all the so-called "manly" things. My kids when grown may CHOOSE to have someone else do those things for them, but it won't be because they won't know how.

Times change so I can understand your mother in law however these days it's more the norm for boys/men to take part in housework and cooking especially if both parents are working or like Sarah and Solo with a larger family. It's great to teach all children to work as a team because it will teach them skills for when they enter the workforce. Your husband is a good man for letting his mum know that his family works differently. 😊

I was abused by a catholic priest for 5.5 years, starting at age 6. Over 200 times. The hardest part was my mother still made me go to church even after she found out(the priest had died before I told). It was so traumatic to be forced to keep going.
What has helped me as an adult was sitting at the back of the church in case I needed to leave. Also, my kids and husband know and are compassionate about it. I have days that are much easier to go and others where just the site of a white collar or the smell of frankincense will cause a panic. There are support groups for those abused by clergy. I am sending great big survivor hugs and letting you know that you’re not alone! Of everything the person took from me, the one that hurt the most was my ability to trust GOD. I very badly want to.. sometimes I get close but then recoil! I struggle with it even at 48.
Give yourself grace and allow yourself to take baby steps. GOD doesn’t care if you go into a building to LOVE him.

Children who see porn or violence are actually traumatized. Their brains are affected, which in turn affects their behaviour and then their relationships. As parents we wouldn't let our kids swallow harmful substances, so anything we can do to stop our kids from taking in harmful content through their eyes and ears is wise parenting.

I was the oldest of 7 children. My parents made our home open to our friends. My parents were very strict and had a plan how they wanted us to be raised. In order for their rules to be implemented. They had a plan. In this process our friends could play with us at our home and very seldom could we visit their homes. My parents had to know their parents or have met our friends parents. After, that they would determine if we could visit our friends at their home. Later, I found out that most of our friends like coming to our home because there were games played and food always presents. I do not know how my parents could afford same, but when it comes to your children and their up bringing you make adjustments. I raised my kids the same . I am glad I did I knew where they were and whom they were with.

There is so much on the internet that children should not be exposed to. I don’t think most parents realize the damage it does. As a kindergarten teacher I can tell you that some of these babies are already “addicted” to their tablets, iPads and phones. They have said to me that they “need my iPad” when they get upset or frustrated. I’m all for choosing the friends that are not all about their devices. It’s a scary time where that is concerned.

When we decided to start doing UA-cam, and I started working as an influencer on all these platforms, we had to lay down some strict rules. It's a complex daily discussion, but it's worth the effort! Just saw Sound Freedom, and these people look for your children on the internet daily; we need to protect our kids. You both are amazing! I love your Q and A videos! Sending love from Wisconsin!

Being able to just be ok that your family is different from other families is so important, and people in your life need to not be threatened just by the fsct that you made a different decision than they did. Even Grandma and Grandpa. My oldest has her first baby, and I am very firm about this even with her. It is OK that she makes different decisions than I did! It helps a lot to tell my kods early and often that we do things differently sometimes than other families, other families do things differently than us, and that's ok.

This was over 20 years ago in my teenage years. Working with my therapist at that time really really helped me.

Then for SS, her child was being too active and it was hard for them to listen, so I helped out and went with the child to his age class. At first, he didn’t want to go with me, a stranger. But the Spirit whispered, you have primary peanuts! (In my purse, just peanuts), these were peanuts that I could only give a few at a time while in primary! 😂. It worked! He’s 18 yrs old now, and still calls them, primary peanuts! It was just what I needed. God knew. ❤

I am blown a away by hearing such great questions from people around the world. Hearing your responses from the both of you. My heart goes out to the young lady who was abused by her step father who was hiding behind being a pastor. Hearing your answers and seeing the faith you have and your thoughts on raising your children is wonderful. I raised my children to do chores, and values and was never questioned by my parents on why I did this or why they are doing dishes. My mother taught my daughter to do housework, make beds and so forth. As a single dad who raised both his children, having my parents there to help me train my children was amazing. I agree with your parenting style, and I love that you are a spirit filled church. God’s Grace be with you both, and pray your home sales soon

I reviewed the comments a bit (not all 300+!) and I don’t want to minimize the heart-wrenching stories, but I want to comment on the rainwater collection suggestion. I know you will do all the research in time, but when I got a rain barrel connected to my gutters I was told that the water could only be used for irrigation because of the chemicals present in the roofing material that the water passes over. Just suggesting that you look into that…you might have a roofing option that would be okay.
I am a recently retired teacher, and have been watching your channel for a few years now and love it! I also watch your dad’s channel, and love it as well. Thank you for all your beautiful, inspirational videos. You are a blessing in my life, and so many others.

Whenever I have set a boundary for my children I always make sure that I explain why in love and in detail. I think children understanding why we don’t do some thing is very important for their mental health as they’ll feel your love and intention behind the reasoning. And they’re actually has to be a real common sense and verifiable reason to these boundaries. People don’t want to obey boundaries that they haven’t been shown are logical and a universal truth, or just flat out, aren’t logical or an obvious truth. The tips given were very good in the video, I just wanted to add that we need to make sure our children understand why we tell them to do or don’t do some thing, but ultimately it’s our love for them.

Exactly! I have done this with my oldest and it helped IMMENSELY through the teenage years to not have a rebellious child and she is in her 20’s now and we have such a close and amazing relationship ❤️ They may get mad at you for your decisions and that’s ok bc they’ll get over it. When they know the reasoning behind your decision it makes it hard to stay mad bc the boundaries were clear from the beginning. Also, what’s not helpful is having extreme reactions to situations. The punishment needs to be in proportion to the “crime” so to speak.

Samantha, God Bless You sweet woman/ mama. I'm a survivor too and I am still a Holy Bible believing Christian . My heart goes out to you. My children are grown, but the abuse I suffered really colored my world and how I reared my children. So, start with a women's Bible study where you can bring your child. You'll get the support of women who may have a similar experience. You can write down your concerns for ladies to read silently so your baby doesn't hear.Keep some special toys/ books back that she only gets to use at your Bible study. Stay with your child in Children's church or Sunday School like I did. I eventually rotated as a Sunday school teacher for all my kids year after year. It was not until they were old enough to protect themselves that I was able to relax as a mom. You are worthy. Let our ABBA father hold you in the palm of His hand . I will be praying for you.

This was so interesting to me . I’m 61, mom to boys in their 20s one still at home. Married but husband and I have found we have growing apart /have different interests as we and the children got older. My parents both passed my mom 6 years ago and I was extremely close with her and still miss her a lot. Would love a chat with her! I used to go to Sunday school as a child , my mom always had belief and prayed .
My husband is a total non believer but I have found more and more over last few years that I am drawn more to my thoughts and beliefs. I would like to go to church but don’t know where to go to if I have the confidence to go alone. Thank you for being voices of reason and friendship via your channel, it is appreciated. Xx

Samantha, a good option to start is maybe watching a service stream from your house to find a pastor that you connect with and your child can still be exposed to the word of God. Then maybe in time visit a church that is interesting to you and you connect with. From what I have heard about trauma, depending on where you are in your journey … facing it and going through it helps move past the trauma. As a trauma survivor myself, you gotta get all that buried emotion out and talk about it so you can move past it and it has less of an effect on you over time. Also, a lot of people are aware of generational trauma so allowing your child to build a relationship with the lord will help her in her journey in life like it helped you to move through difficult times. It’s so important to have faith bc hard times come in life and it’s so helpful to have that knowledge that the Lord is with us in good times and bad. As far as what to say, just let her know you went through something really hard when you were younger with a person who betrayed you and you are still working through those feelings so you just want to take things slow. You can give her a testimony of your faith and how the Lord has shown up for you. Kids are so smart and understanding. Praying that you hear the prompts you need to make a decision that you feel peace with ❤️

I don't have a youtube channel, but I watch several. I would encourage people trying to launch a channel to work on their public speaking skills. Many times I find a channel who's content I think I will like, but their speaking skills are just...painful. I did speech and debate in school and it is a definite skills set. Some people are just very natural and enjoyable to watch on camera, whatever their content. Sarah is one of those people. I'm sure her years as a pastor helps! 😊 The lady that sent in that video clip seems like another, honestly. Her speaking style is very pleasant and comfortable, so she does have that already going for her!

With the question about the in-laws giving pushback about kids doing chores, I know it’s hard to not want to hurt other people’s feelings, but that’s why it’s easier for parents to be a “friend” to their kid instead of “the adult,” but it’s not necessarily what’s in the best interest of the child. It’s sucks sometimes to have to be in a confrontational situation, but sometimes you really just gotta put your foot down. You don’t have to be crass or anything but just firm. People will get the message. Personally, if I already explained to them nicely why we made that decision then the next time they brought it up I would say every decision that we make regarding how we raise our kids is for the benefit of them when they get older. If they learn good habits now it will be easier for them when they are adults bc it’s already something they automatically know how to do without it seeming like a huge hurdle which will allow them to use that effort to do things that will allow them to excel in life in all areas. RESPECTFULLY, we have made our decision and ask that we not re-visit this topic again.
Like I tell my 3 year old, throwing a tantrum is not going to change my mind. Same concept with other adults….being pushy/bullying me into a certain decision is not gonna change my mind. I have had a situation where my husband and I got pushback on a a couple of decisions we made regarding our kids and they don’t bring it up anymore. Now in hindsight, they know that we made the right decision. And as a matter-of-fact, just yesterday my MIL said she’s so glad we made a certain decision.

For the 3rd Kimberly with in-laws questioning their parenting decisions: Is there something specific that your husband wishes his parents would have taught him before he was an adult? I've found that it helps to gently point out that we are trying to teach our children the things that we wish we had known before we were alone and clueless. If that doesn't work and they won't leave it be, it is always OK to limit your time spent with them. 🤷‍♀️
