John has sung this live on multiple occasions but this, even though John is quite a bit older, is my favorite version. He puts so much power, passion and emotion and his heart and soul into it. And his voice still perfect, even with years of his high belting he didn’t blow his voice out. And Brett Garsed on guitar epic as usual. Awesome performance.
When you sit here listening to John sing this amazing song you wonder just how high he can go. Jimmy's version is great but unlike John he does seem to shout the high notes whilst John's have a beautiful clarity to them. It's a shame America didn't embrace his as we do down under. I know when artists from the States tour and get played John's music they are literally blown away. I remember Debbie Reynolds being a guest on a local Saturday night entertainment show and John came out and did Help. She was in awe, as is Celine Dion. The man is something special, not only a great entertainer but a really nice guy. Glad you're enjoying him.
Even though it's a Cold Chisel song and I love the original version, you can't help but love the emotion that John adds to it. It's just another level.💯🥰🎼
He’s a fabulous person, inside and out. He gives 110% every time he performs. All his fans are hoping that we see him smiling again after his serious operation. Love you John you’re the best.X
When you know that it’s about soldiers and what they went through. Being called up for war, seeing both the worst in man and the best in man, just trying to get home in one piece. Also about the struggles with PTSD and all the other things they face on return . It really grips your heart. I can’t make it through it (this version in particular) without crying.
With so many brilliant performances across decades, it's easy for me to say this is one of my top 3 John Farnham performances. No doubting the commitment of heart he makes to this song.
Thank you for doing this one, Rollen! My absolute favourite version of When The War Is Over! He’s amazing, he wasn’t even trying either! He is my number one! Wait till you get see the Mother In Law joke!
Great reaction to this one, Rollen. Loved to see you smile as soon as John sang the first note! It really was an incredible performance. Thanks for reacting.
Thank you for a wonderful 'reaction' Could see from the expressions on your face that you were feeling it too. I love this version even though I've seen many others. There's something very special coming from him during this performance. He sang this for our troops when he performed for them 'live' while they were overseas in action. Most of the soldiers were in tears because this is what most veterans felt...'How Can I go home and not get blown away" was always on their minds. Sending you love from Australia
For a different take on this song, maybe have a look at Cold Chisel’s version ( original) of When the war is over ( maybe privately) Cold chisel Ringside….. with the lyrics in the correct order…. Beautiful song written by Steve Prestwich Cold Chisel drummer.
*When the war is over, got to get away...* Pack my bags to no place, in no time no day You and I we used each other's shoulder ... still so young but somehow so much older How can I go home and not get blown away?
This is a cold chisel song which John changed up a bit and I actually prefer this version just a bit better. Farnsey at his older age still kills it and still sends chills down your spine
Thanks Rollen. No pressure, there's only so many hours in a day. You and Angie are doing a great job entertaining us. You will get to stuff when you can. How did the dog trip work out? Not much I can add regarding the performance. It's Farnham so no surprise it's great. Kills the vocal performance and immediately points the spotlight to others. No mic tricks or fiddling with the mic stand in this one - his wife would have been pleased! 😊
When The War Is Over yeah originally a Cold Chisel song from 1982 . So when the songs songwriter drummer Steve Prestwich joined the Little River Band after Cold Chisel called it quits at the end of 1983 . Steve Prestwich had gone from one busy band to another and didn’t had any new songs to offer LRB . LRB with John Farnham on vocals at that time added When The War Is Over to LRB’s Playing To Win Tour 85 . LRB recorded When The War Is Over for their No Reins album the last LRB album to feature John Farnham and Steve Prestwich in early 1986 . John Farnham released You’re The Voice in October 86 which revitalised John Farnham’s career beyond anyone’s imagination . LRB’s recording company Capital released When The War Is Over as single in 87 cashing in on John’s solo success , the single failed to chart. John loved the song so much he recorded it again for a b side on he’s Age Of Reason hit single , that version also appears as bonus track on CD version of the album Age Of Reason .
U should check out the original version where Ian moss sings at the start then Jimmy comes in. Best version of the song. It's a melodic and haunting piece, u'll love it!
The song written by Steve Preswich of “Cold Chisel “ , they made it a huge hit back when. Another Australian anthem it maybe, but your song is only as good as whomever wants to make it their own. John has taken “When the War is Over” to another level. It’s now engrained into the Australian Psyche, a piece of who we are.
John started out with a song called Sadie the cleaning lady, he hates being reminded he did the song but good for a laugh. I think his next was raindrops keep falling on my head, might be a good double for a chuckle.
John's performance here is probably my all-time favourite version of this song! But you should also check out this very different version by Bobby Flynn: ua-cam.com/video/KGF2nc51Udk/v-deo.html
If anything I think this was his prime. He got better and better over the first 4 decades of performance and even now at 72 he can still hit those high notes. He needs to shorten his phrasing and modify his delivery a bit because he doesn't have the lung capacity and more. If you look at some of his charity performances of the last five years he still out performs most.
Greatest singer ever.
Breathtaking.
One of his best performances of this song. This was during the time that he had given up smoking. His voice was even more powerful.

So true John is amazing ❤❤❤
What a voice…!!!
Indelibly stamped on the “Australian Psyche “, thank you Steven Prestwich for penning it.
Just gives me chills when he cracks out that second verse in the upper octave. Incredible!!
And he was no youngster when he did it too. It's a song that takes on so much texture with age :)
I end up with soggy tailfeathers...and wreck the cage when Brett Garsed starts threshing.
He gives so much back to the community in Australia. So Many concert fundraisers
He’s a fabulous person, inside and out. He gives 110% every time he performs. All his fans are hoping that we see him smiling again after his serious operation. Love you John you’re the best.X
Really appreciate your comments and John would too.
Even after all these years, I still get goosebumps/tingles at some of the notes John hits.
Yep
Let's pass on our love and best wishes for s speedy recovery for John during his current health challenges.
This song always always brings me to tears
I love Cold Chisel….adore them….but John’s version of When the War is Over is something special. ❤️
You can't help but love him.
A fabulous talent John is just a natural.
His voice is amazing.
After 40 years, this song still makes me cry. Arguably better than the Cold Chisel original...
With so many brilliant performances across decades, it's easy for me to say this is one of my top 3 John Farnham performances. No doubting the commitment of heart he makes to this song.

I'm looking forward to it!
Please don’t forget our request for Gethsemane which is arguably one of if not the best technically perfect vocal performance of John’s career!
Great reaction to this one, Rollen. Loved to see you smile as soon as John sang the first note!
It really was an incredible performance. Thanks for reacting.
Love seeing your face light up when you hear great music.
Wow, thank you
I just love this powerful performance. I think John was 54 at this time as you can see the voice is better than ever.💕

Yeah, John is famous for stuffing up the lyrics, even in his own songs.
*When the war is over, got to get away...*
Pack my bags to no place, in no time no day
You and I we used each other's shoulder ... still so young but somehow so much older
How can I go home and not get blown away?

Seen him twice live :) Unforgettable performance ! From my own state in Victoria Australia
Love your reactions and insights. keep it up you guys!
Thanks again for another fantastic reaction
Yea John just keeps it up as he gets older
Thanks Rollen. No pressure, there's only so many hours in a day. You and Angie are doing a great job entertaining us. You will get to stuff when you can. How did the dog trip work out? We got my Dad a dog and it's going very well - thank you for asking!
Pressie would love this Version
I heard one of his songs sung when he was 70 and he was still hitting the notes!!! Unbelievable
And that’s why he’s known as The Voice 🥰

I love your genuine 'can't help but smile' reaction 💓
bonus info about Mr Farnham for all the chicks who just fell in love with him..... he is also a horse lover 😊🤠💕
LOL Rollen, Ange might not be as keen on this one, there is not much John hip action going on!!! Loving your reactions!
John was about 53 in this vid. One of the finest voices in the world and a wonderful person.
Angie will love this, m8!
Cheers and thanks!
No problem 👍

Just brilliant
Thank you for stopping and talking through the song just the way we like it
Written by Don Walker who was a Vietnam Vet... a Cold Chisel song that John just did total justice to...
Yes, awesome‼️‼️‼️🥰👍👍👋🤘🕊
Agreed 💯😉👍
John started out with a song called Sadie the cleaning lady, he hates being reminded he did the song but good for a laugh. I think his next was raindrops keep falling on my head, might be a good double for a chuckle.
Sends chills down my spine
Spectacular isn't it?
Worth the wait.
He kept that voice for 20 years past this performance haha
This was really beautiful to watch, thank you!
You are so welcome!
John's performance here is probably my all-time favourite version of this song! But you should also check out this very different version by Bobby Flynn: ua-cam.com/video/KGF2nc51Udk/v-deo.html
Thank god Jimmy didn't turn up and ruin this performance!
Johns version from his Whispering Jack concert is much better as it was performed in his prime. Check that one out.
we demand Angie also listens to all Aussie songs!!!

Do Age of Reason. Always live version with Farnsy, no hiding behind studio tricks. Massive hit.
❤️🔥😉👍🚌💨💨💨
I'm Aussie and anyone who does a John Farnham reaction gets a sub from me !

His is 72 1st July 73
He has versions. Gpod spng though.
Hope you found a lovely dog. You and Angie would love John in the Acoustic Chapel Sessions ua-cam.com/video/5QOy7d-VWpY/v-deo.html
