I think it's actually largely a creative choice, since the snappy movement and live show-esque staging have become staples of the show's style. if i'm not mistaken I think Family Guy has a pretty high per-episode budget since it's so popular.
If any of those tapes contain any really obscure movies or tv shows, Peter should think about selling them online. I'm sure there's at least one nerd out there willing to pay a lot for some lost media like the lost episodes of the original doctor who.

It's pretty neat when writers know how dreams actually work. Yeah, it's random nonsense, but in a very particular way. I once dreamed that I was in an abandoned attic with the windows of a Highrise condo, and I was watching a hurricane rage outside that swept up Pinkie Pie and a flock of Mareep that stayed in a uniform structure as they were blown away like the sheep from Toy Story.
The animation is actually really good in family guy nightmare sequences. Why isn't it this good normally? What do they usually spend the animation budget on? Do they blow it all on celebrity voice actors, or what?
Making smooth animation constantly is highly impractical. If characters are just talking, there is no need to make everything highly animated. Whenever the show demands better animation to sell a joke, the animation does get better. This is only possible because they're spending their resources efficiently and only putting a lot of effort for things that require it.
@@toowiggly dude. They mismanaged the animation budget on this show from the start. There is no reason for an entirely animated show that popular to have bad animation like it does. It's just gotten even worse over the years. It's stiff and static, almost entirely lifeless, and feels more like it was generated than actually drawn by people most of the time. I know the show doesn't have to be that way, because it isn't always like that. They make enough money off this cashcow to put in the effort to make it look half decent.
