  • I was watching a video that Steve-O posted where he was talking about his time spent as a clown. He said it was statistically harder to get into clown college than Harvard. Obviously “statistically” and “practically” are different but that still was kind of surprising.
So naturally I fell down a clown college rabbit hole and this is where I ended up. I’ve got 9 days to become a clown. Let’s get it.

I'm actually very grateful to clowns. I have this core memory of being in the hospital as little kid (I had a really bad pneumonia and things weren't looking good) and I was visited like twice by some medical clowns and it was the only good thing about that period of my life. They'd play with me, do goofy stuff, and managed to make me smile and giggle even though I was so weak.
After that I remember respecting them so much, and once I even got mad at a girl that screamed at a clown because she was scared lmao like miss girl he just wants to be your friend

There was a chest on the stage that had a secret trap door on it and that was how we entered, and there were two big blocks on the stage. I can't remember exactly what the plot of the sketch was, but I know that the girl dressed as an old lady was chasing me and Mr. Noodle around the two big blocks, and he jumped up and sat on one of the blocks and pulled me up with him, and the girl kept running around in circles like she couldn't see us sitting right above her.

He enjoyed being able to help others find a bit of joy (and whatever else he was raising money for) in making a fool of himself. His username was "fat clown" and I was initially turned off by that until I realized that it was from a genuinely kind-hearted guy and not just an insecure guy seeking validation(?) haha. BTW - the Ringling Clown College was training Circus clowns... the makeup we learned there had to play to audiences 5 balconies up. NONE of our makeups were intended for close-ups with cameras; seasoned pros learned to adjust their makeup if they knew there was going to be a shoot, but us newbies in CC had worked for 7 weeks learning to put on a makeup that amplified our genuine emotions (yup - smiles AND frowns) so the makeups we sported in that video were pretty grotesque. Not bad - for their intended purpose - but not for up close viewing.

Some other things worth mentioning in this feed: Mr. Noodle is a character played by Bill Irwin who is alive and well.... and a graduate of the Ringling Clown College which is being lampooned here.
Many of those "hospital clowns" being mentioned in this thread are former Ringling clowns, and graduates of the Clown College. They've adjusted their makeups from the Big Circus Arena makeup typified in the video with the more "human" look using less makeup for their current "up close" clowning.
Also, the "blackface clown" being mocked here had one of the cleanest, best makeups ever to come out of CC. The dude had a darker complexion, so it's natural that he had a darker base makeup. What I think is odd about the poster's take on that makeup is that nobody EVER accused Ted of having a "blackface makeup." That guy was an artist, and he painstakingly developed a VERY neat and tidy look for a character who might just be pushing a shopping cart around the arena. If you were to see his makeup straight on (and you get a brief chance to do so in the video) you'll notice that his face is mostly covered with white make-up. So, I accuse Scott of sensationalism here. Foul.

He wont tell me the things that happened, but he and his friends ended up driving to the middle of nowhere and threw it into a moving train to get rid of it. Turns out, that very year a horror movie called Puppet Master 3 came out, during which a woman is being murdered on the floor. My Dad's friend watched it and then texted him a picture of it last year, and guess what was sitting on the floor in the background looking over her shoulder?
